Thanks Bluebomb. I see, it's interesting that studios can influence ticket prices in HK, thank God they're not allowed to do that here. High ticket prices could turn me away from watching a movie, I'm a student so gotta save that money  :P

When do you plan on seeing MOS?

2 weeks from now on opening weekend. I intend on seeing the film in 2D as I hate converted 3D. The only 3D that I like are the 3D movies that are filmed with RED Epic cameras.

Great choice, save money as well. I generally just can't stand 3D cause I usually got headaches from it. If the 3D is not amazing, or one of the major selling points of the movie like in Avatar or Life of Pi, then it's not worth it for me.

Decent for The Hangover 3 and After Earth. Strong pre-sales for Now You See Me. Ok for Switch. Wow Thomas & Friends. It beat its Saturday admissions with Wednesday pre-sales.At 3 PM, Now You See Me, After Earth and Hangover 3 are separated by less than 300 admissions. Very close battle between the top 3.

Rank Title LW TW WKD % chg QD % chg
1 The Hangover 3 -- 18,963 -- +14.5%
2 After Earth -- 17,921 -- +19.1%
3 Now You See Me -- 16,704 -- --
4 Fast & Furious 6 -- 7,448 -- +6.5%
5 Switch -- 6,350 -- --

9 So Young -- 1,923 -- --
10 Thomas & Friends: Blue Mountain Mystery -- 1,792 -- --

Good for Hangover 3 and After Earth. Incredible for Now You See Me. It will make more than $500,000 combined. Ok for Fast & Furious 6. Average opening for Switch. Nice gain for American Dreams in China. Not great for Pee Mak Phra Khanong. The Great Gatsby saw a huge increase. Disappointing sneaks for So Young. Weak for Thomas & Friends: Blue Mountain Mystery although it rocketed up 650% today.

  3-day admissions   Jun 10-12

1 The Hangover 3 45,632 -43.5%

3 Fast & Furious 6 19,348 -35.8%
4 Now You See Me 16,704 -19.7%

8 The Great Gatsby 5,091 -30.0%
9 Star Trek Into Darkness 3,751 -23.7%
10 Long Weekend 2,881 -35.6%

The top 2 dropping the most from the 4-day suggests weak WOM. Contrast that with Now You See Me which had excellent holiday numbers. Fantastic. OK for Fast & Furious 6. Decent for American Dreams in China and Pee Mak Phra Khanong. Not bad for The Great Gatsby. Good for Star Trek Into Darkness. Ouch for Long Weekend.

Wow Sam, Now You See Me is really breaking out. It's pulling in crazy numbers. It has already beaten After Earth/Hangover 3's opening day numbers. It could pull in 1m total.

Now You See Me is breaking out. It actually gained from its holiday admissions and it beat After Earth and Hangover 3's opening day numbers. 1m is assured. It's going to make anywhere from 1.075m-1.2m this weekend.

Not a great hold for Hangover 3. It's a better hold than what its WOM suggests but it seems the finale factor is having some pull with people. Terrible for After Earth. It has a rating score of 71% but it has come way down after it pulled a 91% rating from opening day users. Switch lost more than half of its holiday business. Of the 3 films that held sneak previews yesterday, Switch was the biggest loser of them all. Now You See Me increased from its holiday sneaks and So Young was flat. So Young did poorly. Ouch for Fast & Furious 6. It'll pass 3m this weekend. OK for Pee Mak Phra Khanong. Clearly, the distributor is going for one last push to make $10m HK ($1.288m US). It should be able to make it before Man of Steel opens. American Dreams in China suffered a setback with So Young and Switch making the rounds this week. It still held up pretty well with the amount of direct competition. Not good for Miracle in Cell No. 7. The Great Gatsby pulled out another good hold.

After its exceptional Thursday performance, most theaters have gone ahead and given it 2 screens this weekend. It could go even bigger than my high range of 1.2m. It's slim but if Now You See Me does exceptionally well, it could move 1.3-1.4m this weekend.

The strength of Now You See Me this weekend is remarkable. It will conjure up at least 25,000 admissions today. Hangover 3 and After Earth got abandoned. Switch and So Young are disappointing. American Dreams in China posted the biggest increase of the top 10 but didn't hold that well week to week due to direct competition. Legend No. 17 did fantastic with just 3 showings (which all have sold out) at The GRAND. Disaster for Fast & Furious 6. Pee Mak Phra Khanong is holding OK. Miracle in Cell No. 7 had a small Friday increase. WOM is not bad at the moment.

YAYYYYYYY nysm

wow is that this movie with Mark Chao ??

I thought it had great postential

too bad it failed

Yes it is. The theater chains and distributor thought that since this movie was a huge success in China that it would be a hit in Hong Kong.
