4.4 "A Path to Discovery"

Recommended Posts

Not finished with Week 3 yet but I still want to give you guys enough forewarning of this week's game as always, so here are the questions for this weekend. Who all will have to answer them, etc. is to be decided tomorrow. But for now you can begin thinking about them.

Season 4.4

Deadline: Friday, April 26 at 5:00 P.M. Eastern (4:00 P.M. Central)

1. Pain and Gain's weekend gross as a percent of The Island's overall gross (35.82 million). (e.g. 35.82 million would be 100%)

2. Mud's opening weekend per theater average

3. The Big Wedding's Friday and Sunday combined gross (do NOT include its Saturday gross)

4. Oblivion's Friday share of its weekend gross (e.g. if it makes 5 million Friday and 10 million for the weekend, your answer would be 50%).

5. 42's total through the end of the weekend

Wait till you get to this question for the Iron Man 3 Special:

If Iron Man 3 makes twice as much opening day as Iron Man did, and Iron Man 2's opening weekend was 50% of Iron Man 3's opening weekend, then calculate the mass of the sun.

Seriously... That's like the easiest question ever:

mv^2/r = GMm/r^2 M= mass of sun, m = mass of earth, G = 6.11x10^-7 Nt-m^2/kg^2 r = distance from sun to earth.

Then v = sqrt(GM/r)

Now the earth makes one complete orbit in 1 year (365.25 days). That means it moves through 2*pi radians in angle. So the average angular speed is:

w = 2*pi/T where T = 1 yr

but w = v/r = sqrt(GM/r)/r = sqrt(GM/r^3)

So 2pi/T = sqrt(GM/r^3)

You know everything but M - solve for M

M =4*pi^2*r^3/(G*T^2)

=>1.99 x 10^30 kg

4.4 "A Path to Discovery"

The tables are shifting. With the end of Iceroll, "The Equation Sensation" is left with one member - 4815162342. Numbers, who premiered last season as a "final boss" in the season semi-finale, has been playing low key so far this season, averaging in the middling range. And now, he will be joined by the celebrity Jim Shorts, who for the past two weeks has been partnerless. Numbers and Jim Shorts combine to continue "The Equation Sensation" and the legacy that Iceroll will no longer be able to carry on.

Two legends have already left us this season. Another four lie in action on the playing field...and two more wait to be revealed. "The Shadowkillers" has risen again, and this time, the team is poised once more for victory. The powerful team is composed entirely of legends - Acsc1312, CEDAR, and Riczhang. All three have at some point made it to the finale of a season (2 of them have won their respective finale entries). The most potent team of the season...and yet, they have their rivals in "The Destroyers of Evil". The duo just edged out "The Shadowkillers" on their premiere last week, and this week, they carried another powerful punch.

...but it's an unexpected team that took us all by surprise this week.

May I just take a second to say (to without any alterior motive) that CHfloppit and Jay Salahi are a credit to this game and well deserving victors of this round.

ooooook...because you're so noble to recognize the accomplishment of others, I am giving you free immunity this week.

Just fucking with you.

And wow, really didn't expect to win this. If I remember right, I'm following the perfect course of last season: first two games were horrible, third one was average, fourth one I won.
