Avengers win in the comics, Avengers win on the big screen.
Easily.

So you consider Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness "smart" movies? Good grief... And, when I say good grief, I enjoyed the hell out of Star Trek and like Into Darkness as well. I'd hardly consider either of 'em of "smart" films though.
Couldn't agree more. Star Trek was a lot of fun, and I still enjoy watching it, but it is an exceptionally dumb movie. Hell, Avengers (which I adore) is MENSA-level story-telling in comparison.

It was a virtually unknown commodity among general audiences before the first film and even among comic book fans it was B-List at best.
I can confirm this. I was part of a friendly discussion at a theater before the first Spider-Man movie, and I was trying to tell everyone how awesome Iron Man is. The attitudes ranged from "meh" to "who?" Nobody knew who he was, or cared. Even in recent years, when the character has gotten more attention, he was one of the most hated heroes in comics. Marvel took a big chance in basing their movie franchise on his character.

They're both great films. I think they both deserve A grades, at least. It is interesting how The Dark Knight's fans are so much more insecure than The Avengers', especially given that the latter has outperformed the former in every conceivable way.
Smartest mind in Marvel
