  1. It's a strong indication that FD could drastically improve OS. It came out in 2003, before many of the big OS markets exploded. The films that had bigger OS grosses before it were, I think, Titanic, Jurassic Park, the first two Harry Potter films, and the first two LotR films.

So what sort of bump do you think it could get? TS2 had 240m OS. TS3 had nearly 650m. Monsters Inc had 270 while MU had 475. Ice Age had 205 while IA4 had 715 (granted, there were incremental raises with the other two films in the series.) FD could be looking at these sort of increases. It could bump up $300m OS or more.

And that's ignoring whatever sort of increase it can get DOM.

There are risks for FD. Stories could be told once and once again, with fresh ideas, that's fine, audience will buy it. While FINDING one more time? Hard to say  how it's gonna be. And which is even more important is that, I heard Dory will lead the movie? She's adorable I know, but I doubt weather it'll do for the movie as an seq.

  2. You shouldn't be surprised at those Ice Age numbers. Ice Age 4 made 716M OS, those numbers have to come from somewhere.

Yeah, I'm surprised at the whole OS number also. IA4 being the best-selling animation oversea? That's ridiculous. Hope that didn't hurt someone, but if that's IA1 or IA2, it would be much better for me, though they are not my favourate. Glad Frozen took the place.

Those British really loved toys. And what's so attractive in IA4 for European? I thought it was the worst one in the series.

May I have the full version? I'm charting. And also Ponyo and Howl, if possible. Thanks.

  6. Today I have read that this sunday a lot of Tokio's people had failed to get a ticket for Frozen. If this still happened after six weeks, everything can happened, so my prevision is everything over 200.

You can add to your list another "absurd" prediction of a famous box office guy:

    Gitesh Pandya ‏@giteshpandya 20 apr

#Frozen has been unstoppable in Japan. 6 wks at #1 w/ almost no signs of slowing down. Top mkt outside US, $150M possible.

It means another $150M, or $150M in all?

  7. I'm pretty sceptical about it's chances in Japan. CBM outside of Spiderman tend to do badly from what I gather

Interest is low in Korea too, the majority of people have never heard of it before. most of the anticipation right now is for HTTYD2, AoE and DoFP.

    never say never though....

How did HTTYD perform in Korea? Can‘t understand why it didn’t even catch up with half a billion WW, while the big-eyed cat by the same Dreamworks got more.

All tracking very close to each other. Especially howl, the yen amount is practically the same for it. It'll be interesting to see if frozen can start pulling away from them during GW.

All the data is from WOKJ.

What's this WOKJ? I can't find complete information about Howl's castle on MOJO

  9. Beating Conan is just a bonus. It's more important how well it holds compared to the previous week.

Even if Frozen loses top spot to Conan but holds well (sub 10% drop say) that's still a success.

Of course now that we've seen 14:30 toho numbers I think everyone's hoping for something more along the lines of last week's hold (sub 5% drop) but really a sub 10% hold would still be pretty ridiculous for a film in it's sixth week. Still have to wait for 19:00 toho numbers to say for sure but if the afternoon toho numbers hold or day I say increase sat-sun, this weekend could still end up grossing higher than the opening weekend. Let that last line sink in :D

No, beating Conan does make sense. It's kinda like an announcement which tells the theater managers : "Just leave all your screens to Frozen! No other movie could make more money for you."
