Into the Woods
December 30th, 7:10PM
Crowd: Around 60%, lots of women, girls, and families.
Trailers:
Black or White- no reaction (Mom didn't say anything)
Selma- no reaction (Mom's thoughts: "Eric, do you know the reviews for that? It looks interesting.")
Pitch Perfect 2- some big laughs (Mom's thoughts: "Oh come on Eric, that was funny!")
Paul Blart 2- big laughs (Mom's thoughts: "Y'know honey, the first was a really cute movie.")
Tomorrowland- couple murmurs (Mom's thoughts: "Seems interesting.")
Cinderella- no reaction (Mom's thoughts: "Eh, not a fan. But the effects look decent.")
Movie had fantastic first two acts, but a decent, though not nearly as strong third. But it was easily the worst theater experience I had there. Three girls behind me laughed and talked with themselves through the entire movie, people in the audience moved everywhere, my seat felt kicked, some kid was bored so he/she had his/her Sketcher shoe light up throughout the movie, it was just obnoxious.

Birdman
December 6th, 3:45PM
Crowd: 25%, mainly middle-aged couples.
Trailers:
Wild-no reaction (Mom's thoughts: "I think I want to read the book first.")
The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel-some faint laughs (Mom's thoughts: "I thought this already came out.")
Inherent Vice-little whispers and a couple chuckles (Mom's thoughts: "This seems like a must-see! It's kind of like that Bradley Cooper 70s movie.")
I think Wild and Inherent Vice look entertaining, but I'm clearly not the target demographic for Marigold.
The crowd seemed to really like it. There were huge laughs at appropriate times, as well as a gasp here and there from Mama.
The movie was fantastic. The editing and direction are fantastic, and the acting is out of this world. Definitley a must-see.

My god this trailer! This actually put a tear in my eye, something a trailer very rarely has done.

Interstellar's older-skewing? Weird, I know people in my age who were super excited for the movie, and I'm in high school.
-
Ooh, Interstellar and Big Hero 6 both did great this Friday. Hope the rest of the weekend #s are just as strong.

Looks like I'm on a lonely island of hype...again.

Huh. Weird Nut Job isn't on the list. Not that I expected it to be a nominee, but still. Seems the race will probably be Big Hero 6, Boxtrolls, Lego Movie, How to Train Your Dragon 2, and probably either Princess Kaguya or Song of the Sea. And Big Hero 6 will probably be the winner as well.

Does anyone rembwr Delgo? I had never heard of it, but apparently is had a budget of 40M, made 500K on OW at 200+ theatres, and only remained in theatres for a week...
I've only seen two ads for it in my entire life. One time on TV, and the back ad for Nick Magazine. I believe the movie was in development hell for 10 or so years.

I am looking forward to the box office for the rest of the year though. Apart from the weekend after Thankgiving it should be a fun end of the year
Yeah, this fall easily makes up for one of the most boring summers in a long time. So many successes both critically and financially to count.

Y'know, I'm mixed on the character designs, but I feel like the only one who enjoys the live-action sequences. I think they're just as funny as the animated segments. They both have the same wit and charm the series always had. Seems people only hate the live-action because "ZOMG CG DESTROY MOVIE!!!!1" Of course I'm the only person on the Internet who likes modern Spongebob (I know, I know), so probably take my words for a grain of salt.

I just realized something: Where's the Ratchet and Clank movie? Sony keeps saying "early 2015", and outside of a teaser and an E3 trailer, there hasn't been anything else, and it's almost November.

Wasn't WB planning on making a new Flintstones show with McFarlane? And he walked off the project when they asked him to make it more like his Fox comedies instead of like the original?
I might have some facts crossed but I seem to recall that being the jist.
Pretty much. Fox president at the time enjoyed the script, but didn't approve of it, but Seth didn't want to restart everything, so he abandoned the project. But I believe WAG is planning to make a Flintstones animated movie produced by Will Ferrel and Adam McKay. That sounds pretty cool. And I know WAG has other movies besides Lego, but I can't remember off the top of my head what they're called or what they're about.

Well, doing more research, Tootsie and Beverly Hills Cop beat it by a week. 13 in a row. Jesus!
For me too...and here I thought being a kid in those days were fun.
But they are. Everything was better in the 90s:
Sorry, I just adore this video!

86% of The Judge's audience this weekend was over 25 years old. Looks like Robert Duvall was the box office draw for this one....

How come I never get those cell phone ads about specific movies? I only ever get an M&M's one at my two local theaters.
