And we have another early consensus

Critics Consensus: Ocean's 8isn't quite as smooth as its predecessors, but still has enough cast chemistry and flair to enjoyably lift the price of a ticket from filmgoers up for an undemanding caper.

Way too premature. They could've waited until they at least hit 80 reviews.

Having seen this tonight, I just want to say a few words about Sandra Bullock.  Wow.  She reminds us once again how great she is, and because of her willingness not to overwork her career, every time she shows up in a movie, it's almost like it feels like she's been away too long, and you feel grateful for seeing her -- that's a true testament to her. Here, she delivers something really subtle, but powerful -- strong, beautiful, and yes, wonderfully sexy (to me, at least).  Even in a relatively light movie like this, she shows yet again why she continues to be one of America's best actresses, as far as I'm concerned.  If you pay attention here, her performance does reveal its emotional motivations in a subtle, but devastating way.  Yet by turning away from typically-shown breakdowns and hysterics, it shows the strength of women.  It's subtle, but she delivers yet again.  But I'm not surprised people aren't noticing it.  The whole movie is perhaps a bit too low-key and subtle for the GA.  Will be interesting to see how they respond.  Audience had numerous laughs, but overall low-key response.

Thank you for this. I will let my Sandra stans that follow me on Twitter know!

That and one of the biggest movie franchise + comedy genre + heist genre, there is certainly at least 4 other non Bullock factor helping it performance, not including the giant studio release marketing.

Sandra is great at comedy, but based on early reactions her performance is the least talked about.

Danny Ocean turning up at the end would be the biggest non-surprise ever, they are not fooling anyone if they trying to say that he's dead. I believe Matt Damon and Carl Reiner have cameos.

Matt cameo was confirmed months ago. He stopped talking about it, once his association with Weinstein came to light and went into hiding.

Oh, I think it will do very well, just not sure the reason will be because of politics.

I'm not saying the movie will do well because of politics, but I know a lot of female activists who seem genuinely attracted to it because of female empowerment. The film itself isn't exploring any social movements.

  6. This movie is coming out in perfect timing. With the me too campaign, audiences demanding diversity on the big screen, people demanding actresses to play more leading roles than supporting. Very relevant with current social movements. With all that being said, I predict falling a bit short opening weekend at 37 million. I feel like it will have strong word of mouth and that will lead in having strong legs throughout its theatrical run.

  7. Oops, sorry for including domestic numbers. I thought this thread was an overall box office discussion for, Dark Knight Rises.

It's quite remarkable how much this franchise grew overseas, with TDK (over 450 million dollars) and now TDKR (over 600 million dollars). It's unfortunate the cast couldn't promote the film themselves overseas, especially exploring new markets like China! It will definitely surpass Pirates Of The Caribbean by tomorrow.

  8. This may be a bummer to TASM total overseas box office gross, but for Dark Knight Rises isn't doesn't matter, at this point! The film has already grossed over 1 billion dollars at the box office and still growing week-to-week. TDKR now holds the title as the most successful Batman film ever! So, if the movie declines in China, it doesn't really matter. The film can't compete with Avengers, so fans have ultimately settled for second place (not a bad place to be standing). Of course, this is just my opinion.
