two short term records that SW7 should take easily are the non holiday Monday and non opening tuesday

The great thing is that since July 4th falls on a Saturday this year, most people have Friday off. That three day weekend will be really beneficial for everyone's box office.

Looks like still down about 5% from 2013 to date. This weekend should help though. Should easily be another 200m+ weekend and one of the biggest June weekends ever behind last weekend's record.
this is great! we don't even need anymore movies to over perform ahead of expectations in order to surpass summer 2013! some probably should though to cover Gravity (2013) for october.

does anyone know how Summer 2015 is doing compared to Summer 2013?

i might be totally wrong, but i want to make my first predictions on this forum!
I'm seeing:
300 million - day 8
350 million - day 9
400 million - day 12
ill make a prediction for 450 and 500 after i see how well it holds this weekend.
a wild guess would be 450 by day 16 and 500 by day 22

i really hope it holds up well enough today and tomorrow to cross 300 million on thursday

I don't remember how young I was when I saw JP1, but I do remember being 6 when I saw Alien for the first time (my parents has never seen it and didn't think it was going to be that scary).
Needless to say, my older sister at the time 7 was scared shitless and so my mom and her left the room and me and my dad watched it (my mom didn't want me to stay and watch it but I begged and dad kind of saved me). I had nightmares from it, but didn't change the fact that I loved it. I've always loved horror films.
exact same thing happened to me! i saw alien and aliens when i was about 8 and was haunted by that entire franchise (including AvP) for years but i still loved it!

JW's final total and box office patterns are going to be so hard to predict from here on out. there's no precedence for this type of box office performance. like titanic, avatar, and the dark knight before it this is going to take its own path (not the only movies to have unprecedented box office performances but they're the big ones we've all heard of) and leave us all in shock.

oh geez my bad! i got too excited there!

300 million in 5 days is a phenomenal pace. not too long ago 200 in 5 days was considered insane.

Im confused. JW beat the TDK OW by like $50M, why are people so surprised its beating it in weekdays? Especially since both are summer movies.
because batman. thats why.

i do agree that many families avoid opening weekend though. so maybe it'll play stronger with families this weekend, if they don't choose to see IO instead.
-
where is everyone seeing that it's playing like a family film? i thought its weekend broke down to 39% under 25. wouldnt that mean that even a smaller percentage were actually children?
-
And I need to go watch this sucker in IMAX. That would probably bump the grade up.
i had a second viewing in IMAX and it was definitely A LOT better! and i already liked it standard format!
-
i actually really like Lost World
edit: not better than JP obviously

in my area the last potter had showtimes thurday night/friday morning from 7pm to 3am
-
this year we have an OW record for every month that usually dont have or had huge tentpoles before, january, february, april and now june
the months that usually do great for record breaking didn't had anything broken this year, march and may, actually in may it broke some hearts by not breaking records xD
i think its going to happen in a few more months. it could happen in september with hotel transylvania 2, and its a lock to happen in november and december.

to comment on the "5 extra hours" debate; that's been a thing where i live since before TDKR. i remember the last harry potter had showtimes from 7pm up until 3am at the theater i went to. all of them were sold out.

hey guys, new here. I've been following the box office since avatar, and have visited this site on and off for a few years but i finally decided to join after this crazy weekend! I'm from SoCal (right outside LA) and every night this weekend i drove by one of the local theaters on my way to the gym and the theater was crazy packed! i even drove by after Game 5 last night and it looked the same as friday and saturday night! i saw the movie twice myself (opening night in standard and saturday night in IMAX 3D). these past few years have been a great time to be following the box office!

Does anyone know IW’s final total WW multiplier if we add it’s China debut to its OW? I think that’s the multiplier we should be using to estimate EG’s trajectory.
