They began selling tickets for the 2D Star Wars version at Popcorn yesterday. Here's a tip: always wait until 2 days before release to see if they have 2D before buying because they always do that to get you into buying a 3D ticket. Theaters never release 2D pre-selling for blockbusters until 2 days before. If you check the theater chain's coming soon page, they will tell you if they will show 2D at this theater chain

They were straight with me. They told me I had to wait until two days before the 2D showing. But as I am flying to Australia beginning of next week, I preferred to book my tickets in advance for a 3D presentation ;-)

Very friendly staff in Popcorn! I get my free ticket every now and then thanks to MCL membership card.

    Total

bought my ticket for Sunday night show in Popcorn, TKO. Hope I can avoid spoilers until then...

I prefer 2D to 3D but the cinema refuses to pre-sale tickets for 2D showings. Luckily, MCL cinema in Popcorn is way cheaper than Isquare's one (it doesn't offer an Imax experience though): 115$ per person for a premium ticket. Image and sound are top stuff there, the cinema being quite recent.

  3. So for you it is likely that, in spite of all the promotion and buzz, the latest Star Wars does not make it into the 2015's TOP 5 !

If IP3 actually managed to keep it off that spot, I will be more than impressed... but as you mentioned, Star Wars seems like it has never been a huge tentpole in HK.

    Interesting stuff indeed

  4. Thanks for the info and numbers,

I was worried you had disappeared ;-)

And if I'm not wrong, The Martian cracked into the Top 50 Foreign Movies of All Time last week! Impressive run for a solid film, but not an exceptional one.

  5. Hi,

I'm part of a team of box-office enthousiasts from France.

Inflation is a b**ch and, as we saw with AOU, it does not tell the real attendance of a movie. Would you know where I can put my hand on hard data about attendance in HK?

Otherwise, this year has been frantic in terms of box office. Would it be possible to release an updated TOP 25 of the biggest box office drawers in the city? Both local and foreign. For example, I wonder how Little Big Master performed in the end. It was a good-hearted movie, and it deserves its success.

As for Hollywood guns, AOU fared magnificently, but it wasn't the only one. JW, MI6, IO, The Minions... all big box office drawers...

    Thanks in advance ;-)
