Not sure if this was mentioned in the previous 150 pages; but does anyone know the last film to spend 10 or more weeks in the Top 10? TFA will hit that milestone this weekend given the duds that will be opening. Ultron spent 9 weeks which was the longest run of last summer; but I stopped at that point. I suspect it is an Oscar film. I will try to research this more as I have time.

ETA: Never mind. Just needed to go back a couple more weeks. Home - that animated movie from last year that no one remembers but still grossed $177M spent 10 weeks in the Top 10 during the spring and summer last year. Who would have guessed?

In past ten years (2006-2015) only 6 movies spend more than 10 weeks in top ten: Frozen (16), Avatar (14), two at 12 and two at 11. In 1996-2005 there were 25. So now 10+ is a great milestone, 15+ is maybe out of reach in digital/piracy era (since 2003 only one movie was a 15+).

  2. So Disney get first spot among Hollywood's for the third year a row here (2014 Maleficent - 2013 Frozen), a big win after the domination of rivals Dreamworks and Fox in recent years (they reached top spot for 5 times between 2005 and 2012 thanks to Shrek, Madagascar and Ice Age franchise).

More interesting, Disney is able to extend this domination also out of the cinemas, as Frozen brand is #1 in 2014 and 2015 among toy properties (source NPD group) and in Home Media market (source Univideo/GFK) and Star Wars had very good chances to win in 2016.

  3. So SW7 is still ahead of Frozen in a day of release comparison: after 24 days the animated was around 7,5 Byen (or 7,7Byen if we considere 25 days putting the day one of SW7 on friday instead of saturday). The two movies could remain head to head until week 7. During week 8 and 9 Anna&Elsa did their best collecting more than 5Byen combined (8th weekend over 1B): i don't think SW7 will be able to do this.

QUO VADO?  €22.248.121 3,060,698 admissions = new OW record

old one was €18.606.811 (2,681,900 admissions)

    Quo Vado = 3 days

Old record : sole in catanelle = 4 days !!

    Avatar(3D) = 66.8 millions euros not 77 ! = 7 493 000 admissions

    Sole in Catinelle = 8 025 000 admissions !

Quo Vado = 3 days = 1 january holiday friday (and the biggest day in year for boxoffice) / 2 jan sat / 3 jan sun = the better days to get the opening here

    Old record : sole in catanelle = 4 days !! = a normal mid-season week

So Quo Vado numbers are nothing of extraordinary if compared with Sole a Catinelle. Someone was speaking about a 10M+ opening day. More, QV  could collapse after the end of the holiday frame (6 Jan).

So the #1 movie of 2014 grossed the same of the first 3 movies of 2015 combined.

  7. Seats in these locations are 670k for SW7 and 524k for the animated. That means that SW is going under 50% saturation. However last year the first Yokai movie collapsed in few weeks after record opening while SW should have a way better legs. Btw this weekend is already a milestone, the most interesting to follow since 2014's golden week (in which Frozen collected near 2M admission in four days in its 8th week of release).

Well we are talking about a Wednesday, not a Friday.

In fact i wait for Saturday numbers. Also Sunday could be interesting: we will see if the movie is able to get interest into the youngest part of moviegoers. However it seems that the OW is going to be nothing of sensational also in other countries out of Usa, UK and Australia (and maybe Japan, if the competition whit a strong local animated don't affect it too much)
