ESB and AOTC both fell 30% from their predecessors, so we all should have expected a 30% drop from TFA (655M) all along.
Empire fell 16% from A New Hope. ANH made 215 on its original 1977 release and TESB made 181 on its original 1980 release. ANH's gross in BOM includes its 1978, 1979, and 1981 re-releases. TESB's gross in BOM includes its 1981 re-release.

Dec 26 was Discount Tuesday, so there might be some harsher drops for all the movies on the 27th with the tickets going back to full price.I thought discount Tuesdays weren't offered in most locations yesterday.

Why are people predicting low 20s, high teens for tomorrow? In 2006 the overall box office fell only 15% on the 27th.

I simply don't see it for January 18. Here are the releases.....
- Molly's Game (the current PTA in limited indicates zero chance of anything happening)
- The Post (the best chance to have a true break out with Spielberg and award's season
- Paddington 2 (second best chance due to Warner Bros. and reviews)
- 12 Strong (dead in the water)
- Proud Mary (third best chance for a break out, but that date has too many wide releases)
- The Commuter (Lol)
- Den of Thieves (Lol)
- Maze Runner: The Death Cure (might hit around $80m if reviews are good and people still remember these movies)
I'm actually not seeing a major IMAX release on their website until Maze Runner. Could we get 6 weeks of TLJ on IMAX screens. IIRC, some of the IMAX screens in TFA's fifth week went to The Revenant.

Merry Christmas to you all!
Nice to wake up to that number for TLJ. A $39M Christmas Day is in play.
That would be insane! And awesome!
-
Anything higher than 32.5 and it breaks 400 on Christmas Day, with potential 500 before Friday!

-
100% increase on Monday for TLJ would be close to 35. Could it double its weekend by the end of boxing day? Could it break 200 for the week?
-
-
8.5 would be a 43% drop, which I find believable given TLJ's 41% drop.

There are 5 people in the jungle on that picture and 4 of them linked to their real-life images. However, one of them is only half of the picture, so 8.5? Alternatively, you're not counting the pilot guy, so it's 7.5.

Snoke's two fingers multiplied by (BB8 + Episode II) = $20 million. Star Wars flying high!
Jumanji 8.2?

-
18.2, 18.15 or 18.5 for Star Wars and 8 for Jumanji?
Reasoning for 18.2 - Episode II
for 18.5 fifth Star Wars movie
for 18.15: 14 Jedi and Padme at the arena

Opening weekend in Bulgaria: $277k, 522k in local currency. That's 48% of what TFA did last year in local currency, but 43% in USD. Dollar is stronger than it was last year. Still, a pretty huge opening, which puts it at number 18 and very likely to become the 20th movie to gross $1 million.

So loooking at this. Return of the Jedi seems to have had the biggest increase percentage-wize, with over 60%.
