Saw this coming with CW, these movies are going directly into SH fatigue. yeah I know, DP proves me wrong but only because it managed to deliver a fresh spectacle .BvS tanked, CW was overhyped and is doing less cash than AOU, now Apocalypse is underperforming.
You thought CW going to surpass Ultron? Lol
You need to keep your expectations on check.
Superhero fatigue? Yeah, keep telling yourself that. People have been telling this since 2000's. The train will keep rolling.

They only updated the top 5
So Apoc had lower expectations than DOFP, missed it, and has poor eroding dailies.
Fine example of fatigue. When fatigue happens it rears up and bites you in the ass right from the start.
Fatigue of what? The x-men franchise?
Apocalypse without a doubt deserved more. It would have grossed better if it was released on June or July.

I think what is hurting CW is that it isn't a simple good guy vs bad guy story, which is hurting its appeal with family audiences.
Also the fact that we had 4 CBM in the span of 4 months releasing close to each other.

Just give it back to Matthew Vaughn or Tim Miller.
And get ready for the superhero fatigue articles. Suicide Squad is lucky it's so far away still.
They'll be out in another few hours, without a doubt. Lol
The issue on apocalypse is the timing of this movie. They should have released it somewhere at the end of June. Not 4 weeks after cap3.

The most shocking part is that Civil War's Memorial Day inflated 4th weekend looks like it will end up lower than Winter Soldier's normal 4th weekend of 16.2M. It can't seem to buy a good hold so far. The only day when numbers exceeded expectations was the first Tuesday.
Does it really matter at the end of the day mate? Cap3 has already surpassed Cap2's entire domestic gross.

Fox should focus on solo movies rather than assemble type movies.
They have soo many amazing characters they could work with.

What is that supposed to mean?
As in no matter how the movie is critically panned they still make movies to get the $$$.

One difference: It actually had good legs.
It seems like the kind of movie that's criticproof.
Smh.
I hope it flops. The new TMNT movies are nothing but an insult.
-
Has TMNT become the new transformers?
The first one was damn horrible. Even BvS had a more audience and critic ratings than TMNT.

The Flash is most likely gonna move, and the Fox/Marvel movie is most likely Deadpool 2.
Hopefully it's Deadpool 2 and not Gambit. Most people would rather choose to watch a BP or a Flash than a Gambit movie.
Btw, why do you think that Flash is going to move?

So lets talk about those Fox release date changes (there's too many for a specific thread): http://deadline.com/2016/05/warner-bros-maze-runner-the-death-cure-dylan-obrien-1201764118/ (Gotta love how Deadline can't get the studio correct in the URL )
Morgan: Sep 2, 2016
Keeping Up with the Jonses: Oct 21, 2016
Rules Don't Apply: Nov 11, 2016
A Cure For Wellness: Feb 17, 2017
Red Sparrow: Nov 10, 2017
Murder on the Orient Express: Nov 22, 2017
Maze Runner: Jan 12, 2018
Predator: Feb 9, 2018
Untitled Marvel: Mar 2, 2018
Untitled Marvel: Jun 29, 2018
Alita: July 20, 2018
So it's going to released 2 weeks after Black Panther and 2 weeks before the Flash...
Interesting. 3 superhero movies in a span of 1 month.
Wonder how that would go down.

Bryan Singer is a good director, but however he seems to have something against the source material when it comes to CBM.
Tim Miller should direct X-force, while Matthew Vaughan should direct the new mutants movie.

The CW writers said that Marvel was done recapping old movies in the new ones. And that they were okay with loosing potential new viewers.
“We had to make a decision early that we were OK losing virgin audience members,” Stephen McFeely, co-writer of “Civil War,” told TheWrap during a wide-ranging interview with writing partner Christopher Markus.
“If you don’t know some of these movies before you walk in you might be lost, but hopefully you’ll still be entertained,” McFreely said. “We can’t do a ‘previously in the Marvel Cinematic Universe,’ because it will take 25 minutes.”

It's going to be really close. It was 11M ahead after the 2nd weekend, 9.5M ahead after the 3rd weekend, and depending on what the Friday number ends up being, it will be 5-7M ahead going out of this weekend with lower dailies in all likelihood. With a jam packed June coming up, it will end up being determined by theater loss.
<2.3x legs on a 90% RT rated, A CinemaScore and great Flixster and ComScore rated movie is crazy for sure.
That what happens when you release to many superhero movies to close together. Not everyone is going to see them all.
Also IM3 didn't have much competition like CW back in 2013.

Apparently there is already a good quality copy of Apocalypse floating around on the Internet. Can't wait to read No Prisoners's take on this.
Really? Last time I checked the quality was horrendous.

I honestly think Disney/Marvel expected much higher.
The effects of Piracy is seriously overrated in China, Expendables 3 and Revenant did extremely well despite piracy.. and don't forget China use to have Hollywood movies release much later, instead of the current day-and-date release pattern.
Piracy is definitely a factor, but there are many other factors for big drops or the inability to meet expectations.. eg; Avengers 2 left a bad taste in many Chinese audiences's mouth, or Chinese subtitles of Captain America Civil War in chinese theaters is just..absurd.We can't be sure of it. This is doing very well for a Captain America movie.
Cap 3 was released in China on May 6th. Same day as the US release.
If Avengers 2 was bad it wouldn't have made $240M in China. Also Cap 3 was rated a 8.1 out of 10 in China.
Don't know about the subtitles.

Superhero fatigue?
Civil War has already made $1.054 billion worldwide and people are disappointed at that number? When will this insanity stop!?!?
For the people's who are saying this is an avengers movie, let me tell you that it is not. The avengers always assembled to face some world ending threat. Where is the world ending threat in this movie? This movie is a Captain America movie, which focus on him and his friend Bucky.
Also for those who are interested - Anthony Mackie (Falcon) explains why this a Captain America movie and not an avengers movie.

It is actually considered a disappointment to many. Look at the China Box Office Forum of predictions, it is no doubt doing well... but I would say it is below expectations for many.
A disappointment? Hardly.
A pirated HD copy of the movie was leaked in its first week of release in China. Considering how huge piracy is in China this number is amazing.
People need to put their expectations on check.
MEH-MORIAL DAY WEEKEND BOX OFFICE | Abandon all hope, the box office is dead. 3 day weekend #s X-Men 65M, Alice 28.1M, Angry Birds 18.7M, Civil War 15.1M, Neighbors 9.1M. Bad openings, horrible holdovers.

Every movie has it but they are not always good quality leaks like cap 3.
No one is tired but maybe people like you.
