My goal for last year was 60 which I made and then some. This year I still have Moviepass, but as everyone knows it’s no longer unlimited and it’s a pain in the ass to use. I’ll keep my goal at 60 for this year and I hope Regal develops its own program soon.

Blaze, in America, the terms “Ape”, “Monkey” (I’m sure there are others) have been historically used as racist slurs against black people.
No one has ever called a white person an ape or a monkey in a derogatory manner because no one ever thinks of white apes.

Now they are letting Trump fans control Marvel movies.
This just solidifies that they are going to decimate what makes Fox an interesting Studio. You cannot have Deadpool making any sort of edgy pedophilia or rape jokes under Disney because if they allow that then they are hypocrites.
While I wouldn’t sound the alarms just yet, this is setting a dangerous precedent (and the whole Twitter mob mentalility really) that can’t lead anywhere good.

Gunn made unfunny jokes. Barr made (and has made) unfunny racist jokes.
If Gunn was an actual pedophile then it’d be comparable.

Impeccable filmmaking versus disposable filmmaking.

It had to have been because of the merger. Otherwise, this is just a dumb move on Disney’s part. If they had just sat and done nothing for a week it would’ve all blown over and the Twitter mob would’ve moved on and ruin someone else. And some of these tweets were from nine years ago? Are we supposed to pretend that Disney didn’t know about them and are suddenly offended? They didn’t care about awful jokes nine years ago and they shouldn’t have cared now.
On the other hand, as has been suggested, I wouldn’t mind Taika taking over. He seems to have the right sensibility for it. If that happens, they might slightly upgrade.
-
Mamma Mia never had a shot of a nomination let alone actually win something. It’s a jukebox musical. That saying, it’s fun and I have a soft spot for it.
La La Land is the much better movie though.

I’m one of the rare few who think TASM 2 is one of the better superhero movies of the last decade. I’m glad we got Holland in the long run, but TASM 2 and Superman Returns might be the most underrated superhero movies ever made.
Fallen Kingdom on the other hand is a piece of shit.

Truth be told, I think I'd rather just have two hours of Denzel being a Lyft driver and looking after his buds in the process.
Same here. Then they went and messed it up with Pascal and Leo. It’s not their fault, but I just didn’t care about that part of the plot at all. It was obvious from the trailers that he was the bad guy. At least they didn’t wait too long to reveal it.
So yeah, this mostly stunk. Pretty much all of the action is given away in the trailers, and the final showdown in the hurricane where Denzel used to live (Does he still pay for the house? How is it only just a little bit dusty?) is just dumb, especially when it went all Dark Knight, Spectre and briefly Home Alone again. Why would Denzel put up those pictures in the middle of a hurricane? When did he print out all of those pictures? Why did he do it if only one of them would see them? And how did the four manage to miss him putting up the pictures? It’s not like he was in that town for an extended period of time getting ready for them.
Stupid, boring, and the first was better.

It’s not good. I’m not sure about the production history on this one, but it feels like there are two movies here that never quite gel. I’m not sure if the original film took place on the ship and the husband stuff was added in, but the husband stuff has to go, especially once the little girl arrives. Who is she and why do I care about her aside from her being a vulnerable little girl?
The stuff on the ship though? I don’t know, I found it kind of fun if ultimately predictable. I liked the stuff with Chris O’Dowd’s arm. Everything on the ship was better than the shitshow from last year - Life.
But then any favor the film might have had goes completely out the window with the last shot. That was fucking stupid.
Aside from 10CL, this series sucks.

Fire.
It can’t travel through wooden closet doors.
It it can turn night into day in a second.
(I know they blocked the windows, but the apartment scene starts in the middle of the night, couldn’t have lasted more than 45 minutes in real time, and now it’s suddenly bright out though cloudy.)
Other than to save face, based on the events of this film, why would the government implement the Purge nationwide a year later? What was so successful about the first attempt?
Also, according to the first Purge movie, the first Purge occurred in 2014. This series might have a continuity problem. That means Election Year takes place in 2032.
And this movie dared to have a commercial in it during the credits. Not at the end, but in the middle of when you’re supposed to be processing the film. I know people get annoyed by Marvel-like credits sequences and how they’ve taken over certain films, but this is a new low. A Purge TV series! Hasn’t this concept been milked enough. We got to drag it over to the USA network? Where characters are welcome?
Okay, I’ve seen all four of the films now and I’ve come to the conclusion that these movies aren’t for me. The second one is the closest to what I’d call a good movie and it barely scrapes over mediocre for me. The other two, and now this one, have tried my patience to put it mildly, and it’s a shame, because the basic premise, if it had been executed properly, could’ve made for an intriguing film. Or at the very least, a sleazy entertaining film. Give this premise to John Carpenter in his prime and I think you’d get a classic. Instead, you’ve got a series that I think is supposed to be cathartic or enlightening for some people. For me, they’re anything but. They’re obvious and cloying.
The only positive thing I can say about this series is that it’s success has allowed Jason Blum and Blumhouse to branch out and make whatever films they want and if that means we get more films like Get Out and Halloween (please be good...also, this movie takes place in 2014 yet a poster for the new Halloween movie is hanging up in the kids bedroom?) then maybe it will have been worth it.
But in the meantime these movies just suck.
D
Why hire Marisa Tomei if you’re barely going to use her and when you do you just wind up wasting her? Her character could’ve been a goldmine for scene-chewing villainy. Instead, those lines are most passed off to some douche, and she’s unceremoniously killed off on a security camera. That scene is done so poorly (and it’s clear they used a double for her) that I was convinced she was going to pop-up alive again somewhere towards the end. Nope.
This movie sucks ass.

Of course they do... But come on - pussy grabber... That's so cheesy... And I don't believe there were so many anti-Reagan or even anti-Nixon films... Wait, not even with Bush... So please, give me a break, this country had bad president for decades. Nothing depicted in film is new or 'just started happening", it's just a cheap attempt to make people panic or to quote the Uber driver, a circa 55 year old white woman, in LA the other day - "We are living in the worst times ever". Bitch, learn your history please...
And even if everything was spot on with commentary, film is still really cheap and bad.
There were. See more movies between 1975 and 20**, well today really. And this is just the beginning for anti-Trump films.

That sounds like the best Marvel middle finger since Cap in Homecoming.
And it is. I was laughing when it started, but when a group in my audience started to groan I laughed even harder.
This movie provides no hope to anyone in search of it after Infinity War and that’s an awesome move on Marvel’s part.
