I told you all, hardly anyone was gonna turn up to the sequel. Just a really bad release date and too much of a long wait from the first.

Aladdin selling out loads of screens today, demand is really high for this. Definitely no.1 for the weekend.

Aladdin number 1 on Thursday.
CheckedAladdin screens for my locals for this evening and they're getting really full. Think this is going to do really well here.

Think Uk cinemas are massively overpredicting Secret life of pets . Way too many screens have been given and all of them are empty for my locals this weekend.
Think the sequel is just too long of a wait (I saw the first in cinema at the time and now I cant even remember the plot of the first or any of the chracters) and now the weathers good not enough people will go to the cinema to see it and even if they're thinking about it why go for the pets sequel when you can see Aladdin which is easier to remember?

It doesn't help that, for the first time since 2008, there's an all-English Champions League final next Saturday, as well as an all-English Europa League final next Wednesday. With that in mind, as much as this weekend will be fascinating, next weekend will be just as intriguing.
Good point, forgot about that but Champions League/Europa League games always start at 7 or 8pm. There will be an impact in evening screens but nothing too crazy in my opinion.
Difference with euros/world cup is that games are on everyday at any time in the day for like a month.

I've seen a place that sacks John Wick entirely after next Tuesday. This is an absurd level of crunch, especially with Godzilla and X-Men over the following 2 Weeks. There isn't really any obvious reason for this either, not like a world cup is coming (cricket doesn't count).
Yeah theres nothing big in England at the minute so I dont get why late May/early June is so crammed. Im very surprised to see that avengers has hardly any screens, last year infinity war still had a decent amount. Pets moved to aladdins date to get the half term+bank holiday and for some legs before Toy Story drops.
Well next year is the Euros and England are actually playing good now so its going to be interesting to see how the studios change the dates for Fast and Furious, Wonder Woman etc.

UK summer schedule is absolutely ridiculous. Way too many movies dropping.

Statistically it does but I can see why you're saying that

I don't know really. I'm not from the UK. Just guessing the possible reasons. I was also thrown off guard by how huge the OS numbers are. When the 1st trailer came out, I predicted a $600M worldwide after the divisive reaction ("generic" "boring" "she didn't smile enough!").
Yeah this is just too weird to me, from the trailers they just play it as another mcu origin movie, not a must see like civil war (which it could outgross). Was the IW post credit scene really that impactful to the box office?

1. MCU reputation
2. Appetizer before Endgame
3. Connection to Endgame
But why didnt Ant Man 2 even outgross the original after IW?

I dont understand what hyped the UK so much about this movie... I went to the midnight screening (I do with every superhero movie) and it was pretty packed. Nothing in the marketing suggested it at all. Its weird.

As pepsa mentioned, Schools have an "Easter holidays" which are the 2 weeks off to differentiate between Spring and Summer terms.
However, this varies by council, as you can see from here:
http://schoolholidays-uk.co.uk/easter-holidays-2019/
The vast majority do not have holidays when Endgame releases, most finish on the week before, but also get the Monday off due to Easter Monday being a bank (national) holiday.
Therefore opening on the 24th would only take advantage in ~20 councils, most of which aren't the biggest ones. Thus no real advantage.
Im from Birmingham(2nd biggest city) and I checked my sisters school and my college and we dont go back until the 29th, dont know why the site said 22nd. Its the same with many other Birmingham schools.

Just realised that Endgame releases in the Easter holidays in the UK, drops on Thursday 25th. On the release info im seeing so many other countries getting it on the 24th, why cant Marvel take advantage of the Easter holidays and release it on the Wednesday as well? (And give us fans a treat)
-
I cant believe they're doing midnight showings for Cap Marvel...
It really isnt that hyped lol
-
Its been ages since a horror movie released here, thats why.
-
Its actually Superman? What why would they do that?
-
Eh escape room looks interesting imo
