is cineplex going to add middle of the night shows tomorrow night (i.e., like 1:30 AM friday)? or early Friday AM shows? at least for the imax / other premium auditoriums they might as well just jam some more showtimes in at odd times unless they can't for some reason

is matrix on 12/17 or what? seems like they put this other local film Death Notice on 12/10 and that is what IMAX is showing. Also this atom bomb thing is kind of crazy - I think it is ok / a universal human emotion to depict sadness for thousands of non-combatant lives, many women and children, being vaporized and that's all that eternals scene was doing IMO. That doesn't take away from the fact that the Japanese committed war crimes in China and Chinese people have a right to never forget that. It is two separate things. An intellectual, of any political or national persuasion should be able to see that. Fwiw, the concept was that Phastos was lamenting giving humans powers to be so vile to each other. The worst thing humans have in terms of destructive power is nuclear weapons. The only time nuclear weapons have ever been used in the history of the world is in the depicted instance in the film so that scene makes a lot of sense.

with regards to that IMAX stat, it is pretty impressive how IMAX China has become a pretty Chinese company. Doesn't get much more integrated into the fabric of China than showing Korean war films in an expanded aspect ratio! Good for them from a business perspective - ought to continue to grow that Chinese network of screens if the government's plans play out

NTTD $3.73
Dune $4.39
I almost didn't post this because it is SUCH an outlier, but I have double checked the numbers and it is what it is. I have no idea what is going on as Salt Lake is traditionally very hospitable to all things fantasy. Gonna defer to the folks with larger samples on this one.
While I think this would be an unfortunate reason, do you think it could be due to the LGBT content? Not sure how that does in SLC typically - could envision an impact on LDS appetite for this film, whereas they (and big families) may be a driver of Marvel in SLC otherwise

Ghostbusters also has IMAX which should help

Apologies if this has been answered already, but as of now, is there "risk" to Venom 2 or NWH being released in China (have written off Shang Chi and Eternals, of course)? I would think a listing like this on Maoyan, which I don't think Shang Chi ever had, is a good sign but I'm not sure how all this works: https://maoyan.com/films/1358636

makes sense cinemark would be weak here given geographic focus and the fact they don't have IMAX. this movie is for IMAX - AMC and Regal will way outperform

Cinemark is reporting it is best of all time opening night for them (implies better than AEG), vs. AMC saying it is 2nd best, so CNK probably did pretty solidly when considering the overall picture
