Why would you expect The Little Mermaid to follow Aladdin’s Sunday when it hasn’t followed the other days?
Aladdin had a better Thursday to Friday jump and a much better True Friday to Saturday increase.

I would note that isn’t always true though. He was saying Mario was going to be $215M+ when he was trying to prove a point to BOT on opening Friday.

There really isn’t a ton to talk about is the issue. Guardians is landing right around where it’s been pegged for a few weeks now. So it isn’t particularly exciting and in general the domestic numbers are disappointing for the holdovers as well.

it does make sense. The point was that expectations have been lowered so much that a film dropping $25M from its predecessor’s opening weekend despite ticket inflation is now seen as “decent.”
This forum would have called $120M an outright poor number until tracking made it look like it could be even worse.
The sports analogies being used are to illustrate that just because you’re way below expectations, climbing back up to merely below expectations is still a disappointment.

Wakanda Forever’s legs were saved by the December holiday period though. It raked in quite a bit of late money in the second half of December.
GOTG3 won’t have the same luxury.

That was the point I think. They’ve realized that Indy isn’t nearly as much of a threat as the combo of Barbie and Oppenheimer is seemingly turning out to be. Who could have predicted that there’s a legitimate possibility that those two combine for an OW close to triple that of Indy at this point.
