This is a great win for Fox and Hugh.

Hugh is too good an actor to not have more $100m films w/o being Wolverine.

Eddie the Eagle was a fun film. Granted it's more of a wait for DVD film but it should've done more than it did.

Now that you mention it, it's a very good sign that he's got another $100M hit after being done with Wolverine. Studios will continue to trust his public appeal.

    THR's take on it:

Now I don't know if said insider is from Disney or Fox but Disney has been releasing lower budget films until just last year in cinemas but to disappointing financial results. So I don't think they will be opposed to lower budget theatrical features as long as they have been successfully established previously. Iger's comments on Deadpool is one such example. If The New Mutants are a hit both commercially and critically, then I don't think Disney will discard the franchise, especially since the film's connection to the main X-Men universe will be tangential at best, at least for this initial film. Heck, post buyout they could even downplay or remove any connections that are in place already.

And that's assuming the plan is to indeed reboot the main X-Men franchise within the MCU. If the X-Verse remains its own separate thing, then chances of NM sequels (in case of success on the first go) are even better.

Basically, the performance of D2, New Mutants, and Dark Phoenix next year will determine the future of their respective series.

Also when do you think they will present officially the Fantastic Four and X-Men in the MCU?? I think we will have a post credit scene about them on 'Avengers 4'

Depending on how they work things out creatively, a post-credits Avengers cameo on Deadpool 2 or Dark Phoenix would make the Internet explode.

  4. If this deal ends up going through, and with Disney launching its own exclusive streaming service...will the Netflix productions (Defenders and all the indivial series) become the new X-Men? In terms of lacking support through new comic series and merchandise, simply because Disney doesn't get all the money from them.

  5. If they are really going that route, the logical step is to take the 'Alien' off the title again. And probably slash the budget.

To be honest, that's the way it always should have been. Scott wanted to focus on the pure sci-fi aspect of Prometheus, and only shoe-horned the Alien stuff after the fan reaction. So now just stay true on that vision and at least make something that makes more sense.

  6. I didn't know what to expect, since I never read the comics, but it looks really great. Maybe even too scary for me to watch in a theater (I just don't like to get that immersed in a horror film).

I love the current trend of expanding the creative horizons of the SH genre. This might not gross as much as a regular blockbuster, but it can carve a nice niche among the horror audience.

There was a recent British mini-series ( that can work as a movie If you combine the 3 episodes) and I found it terrific. It would really work on the big screen.

P.S. Was I the only one who found many similarities on Hunger Games. I had continuous deja vu's.

That miniseries was insanely good. Brilliant in all aspects.

  8. Quote

Scott and the writers have achieved an outstanding balance in Alien: Covenant among numerous different elements: Intelligent speculation and textbook sci-fi presumptions, startlingly inventive action and audience-pleasing old standbys, philosophical considerations and inescapable genre conventions, intense visual splendor and gore at its most grisly. The drama flows gorgeously and, unlike in many other franchises in which entries keep getting longer every time out, this one is served up without an ounce of fat. It provides all the tension and action the mainstream audience could want, along with a good deal more.

I love that excerpt from THR's review. This seems like everything I wanted for the series.
