  1. I don't care whether it was a masterpiece or a total misfire. I want the filmmakers to be able to own their work, and I don't see how Bruckheimer's influence could've improved the film in any way.

Don't know about the Bruckheimer part, but I do think that it is a myth that complete budgetary and creative freedom=masterpiece. Take the new Star Wars movies. Lucas essentially did exactly what he wanted to do without interference and look how they turned out. Someone needed to step in and tell him that what he was making was crap. The tension between patron and artist has always been around and will probably always be around. I don't know what the balance is, but I think giving a director 100% control with no accountability may be good in some cases, but is by no means the ideal situation for every movie production.
  2. Yea, its true... I remember too, back when Disney Animation Studios wasn't under Lasseter, that they were hoping that internally, many people at the studio were rooting for it to flop, because they had Meet the Robinsons out the same year. We all know how that went haha

  3. And anyway, we're still more than six months away from Brave's release. I'm certain a more coherent trailer is in the future. I don't think

I think that is fair enough. I'm anticipating this movie no matter what trailer comes out, but I hope you are right!

  4. Sorry, not seeing a difference. I HATE that Wall-E trailer and the Ratatouille one is even more reliant on slapstick than Brave is.

Agreed about the Ratatouille one (though I still think it is better than Brave)... they both play up the kid humor, but both of them actually present a more cohesive and compelling story. Brave is just a random, largely unfollowable mishmash that goes from humorous to serious in like 1/2 a second.Could be personal preference, but it wasnt that funny to me at all, whereas Wall-E was.

  5. All those folks defending Cars 2 last year, here is exhibit A as to why I was so vehement that yes, a crap movie will affect future releases. Maybe not, but like the old adage goes, you're only as good as your last movie... Never seen so many skeptics going into a Pixar movie until this one. Not as many of those typical "...but I trust Pixar, they've never let me down before" posts this time around.

Don't know how I feel about being made an exhibit, haha but i totally know what you mean. :D

Plus the disconcerting thing is that a movie is a huge deal....many people at all levels (and yes Lasseter himself) would have had to have been on board with Cars 2, from initial concept, story etc. While its "just" one miss, it does say something.

  6. Meh.... I feel the same way about this as I did about Up at this point in time.

Of course, Up turned out being awesome, but I refuse to be sure this will go the same way.

True, sad to say, but my faith has been shaken a bit in Pixar. They pretty much always have lame trailers though, so I perhaps this will live up to the Pixar name

  7. haha, that is true... i have never noticed that. I guess what I meant is that instead of making fresh ideas, they just dig up the dregs of the old stuff and the whole series ends up loosing its magic, like stupid straight-to-dvd movies and the endless t.v. shows Disney produces (Lion king 1.5 etc.). Pixar is worrying me because they used to be the opposite of that, but with Cars 2 and Monsters 2, I am starting to wonder...

  8. I took a history of film class at college, so we saw some really early "films" going way back, like I think to the 1870's or so. The one below is from 1902 and is the first science fiction movie made.
