Don't know about the Bruckheimer part, but I do think that it is a myth that complete budgetary and creative freedom=masterpiece. Take the new Star Wars movies. Lucas essentially did exactly what he wanted to do without interference and look how they turned out. Someone needed to step in and tell him that what he was making was crap. The tension between patron and artist has always been around and will probably always be around. I don't know what the balance is, but I think giving a director 100% control with no accountability may be good in some cases, but is by no means the ideal situation for every movie production. -

I don't think Narnia could ever have been as consistently big as Potter... the stories are not related and the main characters change! Its the same with the Ender's Game movie. If the first one is a success, they shouldn't just expect an audience to materialize for the sequel when it is a completely different type of story and us 1000's of years in the future. -
So BOM is estimating 26,000,000 tickets sold for the weekend. I think that might not take into account 3D though.... Do we know how that compares to all-time opening weekend attendance?

Yea, its true... I remember too, back when Disney Animation Studios wasn't under Lasseter, that they were hoping that internally, many people at the studio were rooting for it to flop, because they had Meet the Robinsons out the same year. We all know how that went haha

That is true BK007... BO-wise, i remember people have always predicted that the new original movies would flop... first Ratatoille, then Wall-E and there was even an article that I read about Up flopping. I think that is fair enough. I'm anticipating this movie no matter what trailer comes out, but I hope you are right!

Agreed about the Ratatouille one (though I still think it is better than Brave)... they both play up the kid humor, but both of them actually present a more cohesive and compelling story. Brave is just a random, largely unfollowable mishmash that goes from humorous to serious in like 1/2 a second.Could be personal preference, but it wasnt that funny to me at all, whereas Wall-E was.

Don't know how I feel about being made an exhibit, haha but i totally know what you mean. Plus the disconcerting thing is that a movie is a huge deal....many people at all levels (and yes Lasseter himself) would have had to have been on board with Cars 2, from initial concept, story etc. While its "just" one miss, it does say something.

True, sad to say, but my faith has been shaken a bit in Pixar. They pretty much always have lame trailers though, so I perhaps this will live up to the Pixar name

haha, that is true... i have never noticed that. I guess what I meant is that instead of making fresh ideas, they just dig up the dregs of the old stuff and the whole series ends up loosing its magic, like stupid straight-to-dvd movies and the endless t.v. shows Disney produces (Lion king 1.5 etc.). Pixar is worrying me because they used to be the opposite of that, but with Cars 2 and Monsters 2, I am starting to wonder...

I took a history of film class at college, so we saw some really early "films" going way back, like I think to the 1870's or so. The one below is from 1902 and is the first science fiction movie made.
