Boyhood, Birdman be darned. If Paddington doesn't sweep - best actor for the bear included, Hollywood should burrrrn.
And the tiny tot behind me who screamed throughout and kicked my seat repeatedly surely agrees.

Redmayne and Keaton are both gonna win globes, Redmayne should win BAFTA. sag and oscar are a toss-up, I should think.[/quote
I'd agree with that assessment.
-
What are you talking about? Felicity Jones was just as strong if not stronger than Redmayne.
We will have to agree to disagree then.
I saw an actress competently play a stoic, English rose housewife who couldn't fulfill her academic ambitions and an actor brilliantly transform into a man with motor neurone disease to the point I could forget he isn't actually like that. And it wasn't just that he had the showier role.

The Theory of Everything is killing it! Gonna be a big hit.
Imitation Game level or lower?
-
I'm puzzled as to how and why The Theory of everything is sailing on to best film lists while other films are struggling to be considered. Theory is perfectly pleasant and nice (I use these words deliberately) and I enjoyed it. But, imo, it is a made for television film elevated by an incredible central performance. And Felicity Jones can be thankful that the best actress race is so, so weak this year that her perfectly pleasant and nice performance is pretty much a lock for a nomination everywhere.

Just watched Theory.
Keaton is going to have to go some to beat Redmayne. Amazing performance. Much as I like Cumberbatch, I no longer think Redmayne is a dark horse. I'd put him down as a front runner with Keaton.
-
The Queen?
The Queen, the Prime minister, the former foreign secretary and a committee that has turned down former prime ministers of Britain.
-
He's the dark horse chasing Keaton. I, too, would not be surprised if Redmayne wins some of the awards leading up to Oscar. The Bafta would be a major one. I'd like to see Cumberbatch pick up a big award but Redmayne probably has the better chance.

I knew Unbroken would bomb OS and even in the UK. Not sure why they even bothered with such a lavish premiere in London.
So I could go to it, of course

Well IMO she's stunning.
When she did a play in the West End last year she used to walk past where I work. I always thought she was just pretty on screen but in the flesh she is really beautiful.

Wow I just noticed that Imatation Game number. That's super solid, almost double what TKS made when it expanded. 100m for sure especially if it's a strong oscar contender. Ultimately not winning could keep it under TKS total, though..

I ended up seeing this again tonight and it's even better second time around. Definitely the one I'm rooting for during awards season.

I'm curious why some people think Selma is going to explode at the boxoffice. Twelve years a slave had star names, a huge subject matters, a director with his own fan base, tons of awards hype against a big crowd pleaser(Gravity) lots of media coverage due to Lupita's fashion and Brad Pitt but still couldn't get close to even €100m in the USA.
Selma has no stars save Oprah, a title that means nothing to most people, is not billed as a biopic of MLK as such, is likely to go up for awards against Boyhood which hardly anyone saw, hasn't performed particularly well in limited release, yet some here are expecting it to make €150-200m.
People had strong views about Iraq but that didn't make them rush out to see, as entertainment, stories they could watch for free on the news.

Can anyone here give me some advice please.
For some time I've been developing a tv series. I've written a script and outlines for future episodes. it's about a world I have specialist knowledge of.
I became aware a while back that 2 other people were pitching ideas about that world to broadcasters. I met them, neither had any personal knowledge of the subject, only what they had read in books. I thought their ideas were what I would expect from an 'outsider'.
Anyway, recently I had some interest from a major braodcaster and I sent them my proposal. Today I received a reply that they have a similar idea 'in development'. I don't know if it's by one of the people I met but a comment made by the producer who responded to me suggests it might be. In short, although the idea is in development, they don't seem too excited by it.
I'm very upset about it all. I'm not sure what to do next. Does anyone work in the business? Does anyone here have any advice? I'm happy to give more details via pm.
Thanks.

I see he posts lots of pictures of handsome men. Is he one of them?I'm willing to accept he's a God. But does he say, 'let there be numbers' and lo there are box office numbers? And is that Spatula person the numbers devil?Since Telemachos, the best mod on the forum is off celebrating his birthday, Ed, as the second best mod, can you help me here please?I suggest to get to know him better, check out The Hot Guys thread.

Ok, this is going to sound bad. But, who is Rth and how does he get the numbers?

No I didn't see that. I just read the aftermath. I've seen his other photos - of his face.Based on his asshole?
-
Our posts crossed. I meant your John C Reilly picture was funny as I'd seen your real one.Wait, what are you worried about: my real picture in that thread or my profile pic?
-
Only because I've seen the real photo of you. You're a good looking young man.Yes, Ed, didn't that thread end up with Mattreck posting a picture of the wrong end???
He's a good looking guy too. Along with Claymaster.
-
I took a peek at the thread with real photographs and nobody looks like how I imagined them except for, I think Baumer. I didn't see all the photos but I'm going to go back to thinking Dar is a cool, smoking De Niro, Telemachos is O'Toole, Empire is a suave hearthrob etc.Jack Nevada worries me though......!So I am not the only one who does that.

Happy Birthday Telemachos! Since I imagine posters to look like their avatar picture, a young Peter O'Toole is a pretty good age to be. Have a great day.

I was at a movie event over the weekend at which 3 producers discussed how they got their films made. The producer of Under the Skin said it took them 14 years to get it made, eventually with Scarlet Johansson. He said it was originally intended 'for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.' Later he said 'the money we raised could not pay for Brad Pitt. ' It wasn't clear at which point in the 14 years it was meant to star them or whether it was them jointly or separately at different times.Others may know more.Anyway, this new film sounds intriguing. I'd quite like it to be a period piece. I'd like a horror story in the style of The Others! I also hope that there is a ruthless script editor involved. While In the land of blood and honey had bold themes, the script needed several rewrites.

The only surprising omissions are Marion Cotillard and Timothy Spall.
