  1. Its straight up besson firing on all cylinders which always makes for and odd but entertaining picture ...

I am not sure why this was such a huge hit I mean yeah SJ is big right now but she ain't the main reason this turned out to be a bonafide blockbuster

I guess besson can still strike a nerve and tick off audience ...

  2. As a muay thai and kick box practitioner for quite a few years now I can totally 100 % agree with Baumer and his thoughts on fights ( tele too )

When tony and Jason do it you see that they are graceful with it and know what they are doing. Even rock's American punch up style is good for the movies. Also both walker and his stunt doubles make it look convincing. Vin is a lump head and quite frankly he can't fight for shit. You can tell it cause a real fighter doing a pretend fight can get it done graciously while vin is just terrible doing it. Only one who wasn't underused was jaa so at least I'm glad for that he got to do 2 big fight scenes where he got to showcase his athleticism. Hopefully they get iko uwais for the next one that would be very cool.

I didn't know weta did cgi Paul but seeing how great it turned out it doesn't surprise me.

When they bring back shaw ( and his brother to bust him out obviously ) I hope they get a better storyline and more damage to do

  3. Saw it tonight

I guess I'd say its better than 6 but worse than 5 and 1

It reaches quite an emotional beat at the ending but some of the problems are still there ... like nobody dying ever! As the film opens you go like 'oh come on' as another character that should've died is actually still alive and ready to come back in the next movie

Stunts are good and it certainly doesn't drag in the middle part which I liked but its also overlong a bit and could've done with 10 -15 minutes or so less

Statham is great but I must say he's underused here

Wan didn't do as good of a job as Lin did with action sequences cause he does tend to shake and circle the camera around too much so you really can't tell what's going on

All in all its a fun romp and manages to have an even more ridiculous finale than the sixth one .... you gotta see it to believe it

  4. The film was quite good and JG was pretty amazing in it but there was always the ghost of Taxi Driver looming over the whole ordeal reminding you just what is missing in order for it to be perfect

Still its a great movie and certainly this generation's Taxi Driver which is not the highest praise I can give but its certainly high praise

LOL I know this is kinda sick but I have to say it - I can't believe that the guy deflowered Taylor Swift is the same guy giving these great dark performances lately ( Enemy is an underrated magnificent performance IMO ) it just doesn't seem right

  5. Fucking ace

Its been shown on tv here more times than you can count and therefore I've seen it like 10 times and its always entertaining enough for me to watch it

I may be biased but this is one helluva movie and ground zero for Bourne which was years away from it but was influenced a lot by Ronin

    Awesome movie

  6. I love B movies as much as the next guy heck I loved John Wick which was straight up b movie goodness and this film does have some paralells but its just rubbish

First off they establish this serious tone and pace it sooooo long that its kinda insulting to the genre ... also while John Wick also had caricature russian characters that movie was sort of having fun like in the sense that you were laughing with the movie and its one dimensional baddies - here it kinda crosses the fine line between and steps into straight up offensive stuff

The action is quite boring and at times nonsensical like how he never picks up a gun even though he has plenty of chances

What Denzel is doing is not acting its simply being him and he's been doing that for the best part of the last 10 years or so ... once upon a time he actually was a somewhat interesting actor

John Wick > this any day

    3/10

a pompous b movie - sort of like a paradox

  7. Well this was pretty bad

First off I'm a huuuuge fan of LOTR but this is basically SW prequels all over again except this one is easily the worst

one point for brilliant yet underused MArtin Freeman ( in a movie named after his character )

one point for the occasional flashes of brilliance in form of some nice imagery

one point for PJ taking in the criticism for ROTK's ending and actually getting it quite short and right

that's it otherwise its just there being tedious not quite well directed and insulting both the director's far better work and Tolkien's book

Considering the epic trashiness of E.L. James' poorly-written, inexplicably-popular novel and the film's troubled road to the big screen, it wouldn't be unreasonable to head into the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey expecting the 2010s equivalent of Showgirls. However, what the film ends up settling for is mediocrity. Don't get me wrong, this is about a billion times better than the book, as it dispenses with all of the amateurish narration (there isn't a single reference to any "inner goddesses") and the more ridiculous stuff (like the infamous tampon bit). But don't mistake "a billion times better than the book" for "somehow a good movie", though. The film still suffers from a multitude of problems, most of which relate to the poor writing (we still have wretched lines like "I don't make love, I fuck...hard"), and the insistence of selling the audience this twisted dud of a romance. It also doesn't help that one of the movie's biggest flaws is Mr. Grey himself. The casting of Jamie Dornan (an 11th hour replacement for Charlie Hunnam) proves to be fatal. Not since Hayden Christensen in the Star Wars prequels has there been a lead actor fail at carrying a film on his shoulders as much as Dornan does here. While admittedly handsome, he never sells any of the character's supposed mysteriousness or convey how damaged he is (Christian is a victim of child sexual abuse), and his attempt at an American accent flops. He appears even more lackluster next to Dakota Johnson, who actually manages to make Anastasia a more interesting character on the screen than on the page. I've enjoyed Johnson in everything I've seen her in (supporting parts in films like The Social Network, 21 Jump Street, and The Five-Year Engagement), and she proves more than capable at taking the spotlight despite the rest of the film and her co-star weighing her down (the two have no chemistry as a result of the imbalance in performances). Of course, everyone knows that the only reason Fifty Shades of Grey was so popular was because of the really steamy sex scenes, and while the film had no choice but to really tame them down to secure multiplex distribution, there isn't anything that stands out as being exactly provocative. I'll admit that the film manages to surpass early expectations and is never unwatchable. However, the bad writing and Dornan's poor performance sink the film. There isn't anything here that stands out as being very sexy and the film isn't trashy enough to be a camp classic, and it completely collapses as it nears the finish line. If you were a fan of the book, my guess is that you'll be reasonably satisfied; everyone else will leave the movie wondering what the fuss was all about. C

Precisely why I won't pay to see it

It appears to offer nothing - great or terrible (other than Dornan )

  9. So many hipsters...

Its a plodding nonsense with a nice concept but when the kid grows up he really can't act for shit and the only remotely interesting character was Ethan Hawke's

First they bring you in with a concept then critics gush all over it then hipsters take over and further the praise and the rest of us are just supposed to accept that this is a masterpiece ???

    Sorry, no deal

    3/10

its a crime to spend 12 years making such a boring movie

  10. I liked both Trek movies ( second one less obviously ) but after suffering through TASM2 I think this guy is one of the key problems of this franchise game Hollywood has been shoving down our throats

He's one of those screenwriters that fulfills every studio board wish ... and if studio executives were actually making movies instead of directors then movie business would be in even deeper shit
