  1. Well color me fucking surprised but I liked it for the most part

The story is incredibly cliched and the 'who makes it and who doesn't' is telephoned in and I have to agree that the ending of them finding the room and everyone dead and just going out into the desert with maybe a silhouette of a city in the distant would be MUCH better than the explaining the plot that we got. I mean that's basically my main problem with the movie. Its all pretty solidly made with some great acting from all the young actors and the monsters are scary which is something I didn't quite expect. I also agree that it kinda went through fast timeline-wise but I appreciated an under 2 hours runtime cause quite frankly I'm kinda bored of all these teenage movies lasting like freakin Lawrence Of Arabia. Even with all the cliches and everything I thought it was a competent teenage movie and if I was a 10-12 years younger I would've went nuts for it.

Just come on already don't give us these 'we're setting up part 2' endings reward your audience with a proper ending I mean a sequel could be made if it ended like I suggested above.

  2. I thought it was funny at times but also kinda boring with 'emotional' parts and the gay stuff between the two is neither funny nor necessary to be in the movie 5 or 6 times

With that said its alright for a comedy sequel certainly as good as it gets and self referential jokes were fine

    7/10 ... would've been a 6 but the ending credits were great

  3. Well this is some grade-A bull. Never before has David Fincher had a style so distinctly David Fincher as he does right now. Now, this style may not be, say stylish and showy like Seven and Fight Club but it's absolutely there and it's made Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl much better movies than they would've been with someone else in charge.

I don't see a reason to call my quarrels with this movie bullshit but I saw what I saw here and despite your best effort to convince me its amazing I've already forgotten a lot about it the next day and I'm thinking most people will kinda acknowledge that just like they did with Dragon Tattoo as time goes by

I just didn't like it very much sure its fine but I won't be in awe with Fincher when he delivers something average

  4. You keep telling me he's better and yet I don't see it

The Social Network was great and Zodiac is excellent too

This and Dragon Tattoo are just subpar films of his IMO and since you focused on the technical aspects of his direction as one of my criticisms towards the film I can tell you that Seven had sort of a personal stamp to it that made it feel like a auteur's film whereas this and Dragon Tattoo are way too operatic and could've been directed by whomever directed the latest Liam Neeson movie and the result wouldn't be much different in terms of film's effect

Just because a standard thriller story was directed by someone who knows his way around the camera its still just a standard thriller story and Fincher while being somewhat overrated in the first place is above that stuff

Scorsese would never direct a story like this and not make it his own

  5. Honestly?

Another overrated straight up b-movie offering from Fincher

First off it has literally no business being as long as it is particularly cause it doesn't make a point at any time during its duration. The story is bonkers and straight up pulp stuff that just gets more and more ridiculous as it goes. There is no character development whatsoever and while Pike is rather good in her cheap thriller role ( I hope that this also cheap bestseller does give the female character a bit more or I would be worried about the author's perspective ... I don't know who the author is btw nor did I have any knowledge about the book at all before seeing this ) Ben Affleck is the epitome of an actor just being himself in every movie. People say that about Cruise and other stars a lot but Ben Affleck no matter how hard he tries always just does a perfectly good Ben Affleck - nothing more nothing less. And quite frankly its not as mysterious as it thinks it is some things are telephoned in ages before they happen and when the NPH delusional ex came in to the story I was like 'next 20 minutes are pointless and quite plodding because she will kill him' and voila it happens.

That being said - Fincher does stage it mostly well if overlong and he goes through the whole thing a competent yet overly operatic manner but since its Fincher people are all over it having Seven in the back of their head and giving this one raves it clearly doesn't deserve.

Leave the airport bestseller stand Fincher and go back to real films

  6. Well thats awkward, when I saw this trailer during Equalizer I was like 1. Dafuq is this? And 2. the guys on BOF will so shit on this. Then I log on and see all positives. Him its looks...interesting. Sorry but the dog angle makes me lol, but I can see me gf doing this if someone murdered her chiuahuah, so I guess its not too crazy.

It looks like a live action shoot-em-up video game, with a dog and poorly animated lightning. Not a bad thing. Not sure yet if ill be seeing it in theaters, but ill Redbox of course. Good to see Keanu "back."

Its not just us here - critics are all over it

It has 9 reviews on RT all fresh and the average rating of 7.9

Obviously it will go down but that right there is about as best as you can get for a movie of this genre ( B- movie shoot em up )

  7. Well damn this looking better and better with each day

As for the box office its kinda hard to predict ... I mean it definitely looks appealing but then again its summit and lionsgate and they usually can't open shit when it comes to star-driven actioners ... yet it will be enough time after Equalizer and quite frankly Equalizer never looked nearly as good as this and without even watching either of the 2 movies I have to say that John Wick clearly seems like a better movie ( and I'm sure it will be )

Plus it doesn't have a ridiculous running time of 130 + minutes its kept at around 95 minute mark

  8. John Woo is one of the greatest action directors of all time and he's undoubtedly the most influential now if you look at the action films of the past 25 years or so

This is the only Hollywood film where the man was allowed to do what he wanted and mind you the ingredients are all there for it to be giant fuck up and yet it ends up being this awesome thrillride

I miss Woo so much ... when he's on form his movies are so exhilarating

  9. I'm not gonna grade it because I think I should watch it again at some point ... its pretty good but whenever I think about how I would do something differently or even better then the movie is not perfect

With that being said the slightly different direction that I would take doesn't really matter since this movie is a one-man show and that one man happens to be Tom Hardy in his finest performance since Bronson which is really a good enough recommendation to see the film even without knowing anything else

  10. I saw this tonight ( boy this and Non Stop my IQ took a pretty solid hit ) and while it does offer some outlandish action scenes like the airplane one or the finale with rail guns or the crocodile one ('you're luggage' ) it just doesn't come together at all ... Vanessa Williams is insanely hot in it in the kind of you're not sure if you wanna marry her or fuck her and then you choose both and I kinda got lost in Vanessa's eyes and curves way too much instead of following the stuff on screen so yeah

mediocre Arnie outing no doubt about that
