  2. lars von trier: melancholia, dancer in the dark, breaking the waves

ingmar bergman: persona, cries and whispers, through a glass darkly

david lynch: inland empire, mulholland drive, eraserhead

incidentally, stanley kubrick and abbas kiarostami are the other two who would absolutely have three films in my top 85 (all the movies i've rated at least "incredible"). bela tarr, werner herzog, jacques rivette and robert bresson would all have a chance at rounding out the top 100 if i could be bothered constructing a list.

  3. B+

a capitalist society hellbent on endless production requires the division of labour into segregated classes, preventing the development of genuine intimacy. the maintenance of this "society" is sustained not only at the end of law's baton, but in the dissemination of ideas: one must believe in the Big Bad Bear. a truly surprising and funny film that is not at all reducible to a simplistic "prejudice is bad".

  4. wait, where am i?

    really want to see:

    - cemetery of splendour

    - anomalisa

    - love

    - the exquisite corpus

    - the forbidden room

    - sicario

  7. Nice top but why do you look movies? You hate almost every single one of them :( I would hate it if  I didn't like 75% of the movies I saw :(

30 is a pass grade and means i enjoyed it to some extent. 40 is recommended. 50 is good. 60 is very good and means i loved it.

i don't see the point in leaving so much rating space for bad movies, isn't it more important to know the difference between your very favourites than your very least favourites?

  8. it became very clear very quickly that at least part of this movie was going to be about a guy wanting to fuck a feminised robot, but it definitely wasn't as bad as it could have been, and was much less painful than, oh i dunno, HER in that respect. in other respects, it was okay, with a nice ending.
