^Agreed on Leo. He will miss out again, even if the film does okay.

MI 1.8
LMAO

I have no idea what films have been eliminated, if any.
-
If his first two films are any indication, Martin McDonagh.
In Bruges is average. Has a couple good performances and an interesting resolution, but overall it's disjointed, schizophrenic, and a misfire.
Seven Psychopaths is total crap.

Wait what is TTSS?
Tinker Tailor Soldier
SnoozeSpy -
Empire Strikes Back only sold about 55-60% of New Hope's tickets and it was a critical disappointment at the time so it didn't have the great WOM the original did. Of course, it'd still be a mega-blockbuster today but it still made quite a bit less than the original
I'm aware, but to say it is the most disappointing box office run of all time is one of the most absurd things I've ever read.

TTSS was the best sleeping pill I could have ever found. A failure on nearly every level. Can't wait for it to leave the list.

What cultural impact does THG -- the movie -- have?
It was THE film of spring 2012 and sparked huge interest in the book series. I'm not saying it's high art or anything of the sort, but it's made a big footprint on pop culture. That said, I'll hardly be torn up if it gets kicked off. I'm just (like ric) trying to emphasize that this isn't a "1000 best movies" list.
-
There are a few like Super 8 that I will probably end up voting to remove but that I enjoy too much to do so in the first round of knockoffs. And although it's a lesser film than many that are going to leave the list, I would argue in favor of keeping The Hunger Games on the list at least a little longer, if only for cultural impact.

There's bigger fish to fry than The Muppets and Rango but the rest do need to leave
Both good films, but the 1000 most essential films ever? Don't think so. Especially for the former since one of the several other Muppets films is likely to stay on the list.
-
The biggest disappointment, in terms of Box Office to the caliber of the movie, is The Empire Strikes Back
Um. What?
-
I don't really think this thread is going anywhere, but I might as well nominate Open Water (2003). Possibly the worst use of 81 minutes ever.
-
I left out a few like Spring Breakers and Young Adult simply because I haven't seem them yet. I doubt they belong, however.
-
Marlon Brando is the most overrated actor of all-time.
Al Pacino was too weak in playing the Role of Michael Corleone.
Robert De Niro displayed a very poor performance in Raging Bull.
Paranoia should win the Best Picture of 2013 at the 86th Oscars.
You had me until the last one.

I added Beasts of the Southern Wild but you didn't put it. (Cue snarky comments from MGS and riczhang)

Just saw Princess Mononoke for the first time. I expected it to be good, but I was absolutely mesmerized. On par with Spirited Away IMO.

4. Mulholland Drive

LOL at Life of Pi and Hugo being there. And Fame? That better be the remake.
-
Uh, wow, Requiem for a Dream (2000) isn't there yet.

I think shorts should be allowed, but only if we believe they truly advanced the medium of film. Films like Trip to the Moon, Un Chien Andalou, La Jetée, and a few others deserve to be on the list. Shorts shouldn't take up any more than 10 spots, though.

Persona (1966)
Memories of Underdevelopment (1968) (WATCH THIS!!!)
Carrie (1976)
Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012)

If The Room can get nominated, Plan 9 from Outer Space deserves a mention as well.

What the hell is left from the last few years after all those eliminations?
