Who cares about RT? This has a 98 on Metacritic.
Its not the highest this year, 'inside Llewyn Davis' is 100 from 8 reviews. 'Gravity' is 98 from 5 reviews.
-
I care about RT only because it's useful for predicting the legs. If it gets strong reviews on RT, it will probably have good legs and the good boxoffice result that we all hoped might come eventuallty.
Both are good, but RT is the most believable source. Metacritic doesn't reveal their rating system.

The best cinematography and the best visual effects awards are locked.

100% with 8 reviews on RT. Average rating 8.7. This is obviously too early to call, but it sure is a good sign.
For a "bright and optimitic" comparison, I hope this becomes last year's Life of Pi, incredible storytelling and dazzling visuals, and of cause a surprising break out at the boxoffice (which is partifularly needed for original sci-fis this year).
more important thing is average rating. Its 8.7. No any sci fi movie this year had such an avg. rating, even in the beginning. At the same time(after 8 reviews) STID had its avg. rating in 7.8.

Just a funny comment: if someone goes to foreign section of Despicable me 2 in BOM, there is a "little" mistake: it says DM2 has done 168 million $ in Spain
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=intl&country=ES&id=despicableme2.htm
Said this, the "real" 16-17 million that it has already done in Spain is a quite good result.
If DM2 made 168M in Spain, it could have made 1B WW!
-
wow at the reviews...looks like Cuaron delivered again
Yeah, not a surprising result from Cuaron!

Sony would have thought 400 OS would be a lock for this shit! Poor Sony. Their worst nightmare came true, this summer!

Not likely. Everything is pretty much in line with Rentrak numbers. With $1.03 mln Thursday it needed really strong weekend multiplyer to reach 23m on Sunday.
I don't think 35M total is impossible.
-
Estimates:
Despicable Me 2 $5.85mln - $22.72mln -51,9%
Sea of Monsters $4.93mln on 1920 screens
We Are The Millers $2.55 mln - $11.35 mln -23,0%
Elysium $0.91m - $14.56 mln -69,4%
No 23 for DM2? Will there be any significant difference in Actuals?
-
CA was the weakest of the individual Avenger films, I won't believe 500M for it until I see Thor 2 make 700M OS.
Thor2 won't make 700 OS. But CA2 would make 500 OS.
-
No 100 Dom.
No 300 OS
No 400 WW

TF4, Hobbit 3, FF7 are the only obvious choices.
TASM is very likely.
Hunger games depends on how this years one does.
Rio and HTTYD maybe, but probably not (especially HTTYD).
Minions is a spin off and will have a hard time keeping DM2 numbers.
Interstellar might if it can be as good as Inception.
Maybe some other film breaks out (Godzilla, Apes, CA2, Dinosaur).
If I had to guess I would say 6-7, which might be what we get this year.
I think CA2 is now very likely to break 500 OS.
-
Exodus is too early know that much but I would say no, Interstellar on the other hand has a good chance but it will need to be a good film like Inception.
You mean Ridley's 'Exodus'?
-
300 OS not happening!
-
Which movies will help power 2014 OS ?
I think 2014 will be weak too ...
If there is a 800+ OS grosser, it'd be TF4. But that won't happen.
-
500 OS is happening!

DM2 prediction?
-
What about the MU numbers by this weekend?
-
So 23.5M for DM2?
-
Im going to be jumping for joy if this one beats my 3.7B WW prediction
Pity, Poor 'Superman001' 3,7 WW for AVATAR2?
-
Can DM2 make 6.5M?
-
Kinometro confirmed
1.031mln Despicable Me 2 - 17.96m total
1.024mln Sea of Monsters
425k We Are The Millers - 9.24m total
So the Friday numbers for DM2 should increase, right?
-
If anything above 6M happens for DM2 this weekend, it may even pass FF6's total.

Wright never disappoints. This is probably 2013's one of the few most hilarious comedies along with This is the End. This movie isn't just hilarious. Its Smart and also wise. Each and every performance is awesome. Also there is a great soundtrack from some tunes of Blur, James, Sisters of mercy and happy mondays. 8.4/10
Gravity | Re-released on 2D and 3D January 17 | IMAX 3D on January 31! | 100M+ WW IMAX

Still too early, almost all the oscar bait movies are yet to come.
