  1. Was there no appeal or just no awareness in general..  Majority who saw it liked it, but many had no idea what to expect i guess and maybe the title turned some off?

It was also budgeted in a way that sometimes makes it easier to get a sequel.. Lets see how it does with streaming.

if there was such a spend then how come no one anything about it.. the only reason I even knew it existed is i tend to go looking for upcoming movies for actors I like some of what they do.

  2. Interesting weekend for the BO..

With a lack of anything new really coming out and again next week it had a pretty nice hold only dropping about 30% from last weekend

Its got a shot at 90 plus domestic now and had a good foreign hold last week upwards of 12-13 million.

Did it open someplace else new?

could finish 90/110 for 200 million now.

  3. good question.. But scream was a franchise in a market that tends to feed on itself too.   Its like westerns have X amount of audience and they tend to find it and seldom does it break out more than that,   What kind of audience does this have?  the horror movies  have the same thing.  It doesnt even matter how good they are for much of what they make.

People complain about what studios dont take more chances and here is a clear reason why.. Only a subset of movie goers will go to things outside  their norm.

I go to most everything if it looks like fun.  many wont do that.

  4. I guess the question is did it under perform?   not one person I know knew this was coming out.  and one reason is because so few people go to movies, and so few movies advertise any more.

I went to 5-6 movies this yr never saw a trailer for this and its never been in a TV ad I saw.  No one reads papers so no ads there any more..

the tracking was decent but that just means it underperformed to tracking not that it underperformed as a movie..   And tracking probably has the same issues these days as political polling does.

I go looking at schedules then go look to find what the movies i see coming are about,  Does the casual fan do this ?

our local mall is dead so no people are wondering around seeing the flyers up either.

a movie that make 150-200+ million is only a flop to budget not to how well it was perceived.  the way this was budgeted it wont really lose money it just wont be a big money maker.

  5. i saw some stories of hoping to make a franchise like John wick out of it.  then they also said with its box office numbers it wont happen..  Of course john wick didnt really set the world on fire and its now got 4 movies.

its also gonna do more than atomic blonde

its hurt by some markets these days

    AB had 10.5 from Aus/Russ/Jap/SKorea

This is gonna do better in Australia . do we even do Russia now?

Japan is the big unknown given the book is from their.

its doing way better in mex/col the 2 latin markets its opened in.

its opened better than AB in every market really so over seas it may be solid

it may end up here to be 60-70 million and over seas a bit better

  6. this movie was fun.. Crowd in the theater loved it for a group skewing 55 and over..  Its a style of movie you love or you dont.   Story was much better than  expected, pretty complex.  lots of fun banter.  the couple CGI scenes probably would have cost as much as the whole movie to make fit better.. Might have been better to undersell that action.. But it was also trying to stay more true to the book I guess.

  7. this is the problem with almost all video game movies..  You have a set number of fans and if you try to play to the game some people will come away saying it wasnt enough of something..  This movie really tried to find the line between a movie and the video game.. The set pieces were there because they belong there if you played the games.. The stunts were done in a way to pay tribute to the game.   You could throw out some of the stuff and just make a movie but then why call it Uncharted.

its like Bond and the Martini lines. if you have never seen one its a throw away line..

It was really well done to be like the game in real life.   I dont know how you would ever do the over the top stunts of a game in a movie.  In the game you would die 10x doing the stunts until you go thru the section.. Cant do that in the movie so they can only take it so far.

I think most critics complain about movies because they are not what they want to see not because the movie fails.. Like they go want to see a comedy and its a murder mystery and then mark the movie low because there is not enough laughter..

Its a video game adaptation, therefore you have to expect some things will be video gameish and not real lifeish..

  8. I know if i go to a movie not likely to by food because its so expensive.. if i go with the family we may buy a drink/popcorn to share.. since most of these tools  really work best as a single user how much of a change in concession sails will they see?  regal gives me some free food every so often and that does get me to buy something, but not more often if the food wasn't so over priced.. if a drink was $2 instead of $4 i might buy it every time instead of 1 in 10..   Same for popcorn, Look at what the Falcons did by pricing food at a decent level, food sales went crazy and so did profits on food..
