  1. The Watch looks like it should do better but look at Vaughn's last film, The Dilemma, it opened to 17 mill and Stillers last one, with Eddie Murphy Tower Heist opened to 24 mill. So 15 mill is lower than these, but is it the shooting or just that the trailers were not that good?

I also wonder if large amounts of African Americans have personally resolved not to see it. That is 12% of the movie-going population.
  2. Or maybe WOM has kicked in and it's just not that good a movie. Maybe the over long film, the lack of the Joker, no controversial death of one of its high profile cast members, no performance of a lifetime from one of its cast members, the fact that its depressing, makes no sense in some parts, has everyone talking like they are a hybrid of Freud and Socrates, boring in some parts, has an inaudible villain at times, has Alfred crying every other scene and just lacks all the charm and fun of the first two Nolan Batman films, these could be the reasons it is not doing well. Call me crazy, I know.

Go on Twitter sometime and get back to me about the supposed mixed/negative WOM...
  3. Uhhh....Didn't Hunger Games have this little thing called school which deflated it's weekdays vs TDKR having summer days? I'm not saying it won't go past 400M and THG, but using Mon-Wed as any metric seems wrong. I know you're trying to do a whole week with assumed numbers for today, but giving the day-by-day deficit is misleading.

Yes, but I think he is arguing that despite the deflated weekday, THG still had a big drop on its second weekend, so if TDKR, with its high weekday numbers, can still beat THG on its second weekend, it should be headed for $450m.THG had great amazing legs after the second weekend, though, so we'll see...
  4. I thought this movie was a classic! At least with the late teens/early 20s crowd. And I don't buy IMDB's 6.9 for a second, it was downvoted because of Lindsay Lohan's reputation. It was around 7.5 a couple years ago IIRC.

Good to hear! I am 23...I honestly don't know one person my age that doesn't like the movie. Really a defining movie for my generation, but I don't know how it's perceived amongst the younger and older crowds
  5. $198.2m without Puerto Rico. Rises is $198.04m. :P Not entirely fair to compare a Wednesday release and Friday release though, especially not when the Friday release also had a mass shooting at one of its midnight shows. TDKR will pull ahead over the next week. TF2 adjusts to $427m total. TDKR has a chance to reach a similar total.

I can only hope that such a far superior film over TF2, TDKR, coming off of a far superior movie than TF1, TDK, can beat TF2's $427m...
  6. The fact that you adjusted for inflation immediately makes your study more interesting and more valid. I applaud you for doing that. My only complaint would be that you didn't use the 2nd Potter film. Your study uses the last Potter film. I think you should consider editing it to include Chamber of Secrets instead of Deathly Hallows part 2.

When you adjust for inflation, the only series that has ever had two $500 Million movies is the original Star Wars trilogy.

    Before or after re-releases?
  7. I thought this would be a fun way to chart how many times each of us has seen the movie, especially as some of us are doing our own little part to increase its b.o. numbers. Feel free to keep track of each viewing - sharing crowd reports, new/changing impressions of the film, etc. - and changing your "vote" accordingly.Fans only, please (hence why I started the poll at 1, not 0).For my part, I have seen it three times, including one time on IMAX 15/70. I want to squeeze one more viewing in before Sunday is over. I think I ultimately saw TDK five times in theaters (I'd also be interested in hearing how many times you saw that film).

  8. If TDKR has some late legs that just carry it, bravo! I'd love to see another $500M film this year! But I'm just not sensing the universal love for this film that TDK (and Avengers) have. Still, I can very well be wrong. I'm still stunned that "Hunger Games" made $400M!I do feel TDKR will surpass that film (unless there's an unexpectedly huge second weekend drop). That's three $400M grossing films in one year (and possibly four, if "The Hobbit" really shines). Incredible!

When did Hunger Games' legs kick in? By its third weekend? Maybe that would be a good indicator to see if TDKR has it in it.
  9. I still wonder how or why Nolan ever went with the voice he did with Bane. I mean it really sucked in the prologue because I couldn't understand a word, but now it just sounds hilarious, and I don't think that is a good thing when a villian is supposed to be menacing.By the way, does anyone have a run down of everything Bane says in the movie. I've seen it three times and there is still 5% of stuff I don't understand what he says.

  10. Nope, and there were guys in Applied Sciences that were up above too stealing some of that equipment. It's not really something that can explicitly explained. It could be implied that Talia, as head of the board was able to find out about Fox's dealings with bringing all of that equipment in similar to Mr. Reese in TDK (seriously...that Hangar looks awfully big to just hide from anyone) and notified Bane.Sort of flimsy, but not entirely unreasonable either.

In which case BW would have known she was a traitor well before the reveal...
