Hopefully they deep sixed that voiceover trailer. It had some charming moments but that voiceover gave it real Disney Channel original movie energy. The pivot to Carol makes sense and tells you that they already know that their original strategy was not working. They probably should have figured that out sooner and made her a heavier focus of the second trailer months ago though.

I think it can't be overstated how important Quantumania was. They positioned that film as the start of Phase 5 and the big launch (after the Loki soft launch) of the big villain of the multiverse saga. It was supposed to be the film that gave this saga shape and reassured people that Marvel knew what they were doing after a rocky Phase 4. It failed at both of those things and solidified the narrative that Marvel is in a creative rut. They're now going to need a string of creatively successful films to dig themselves out of that rut.

I 100% agree on AM3 being important on momentum.
No doubt it was bad. I was hoping for the big AM finale with him getting a bigger stage, blah, blah. It did not work.
I question why GOTG 3 wouldn’t counteract that some more than others think, but any good feels from BPWF doing pretty well we’re flattened.

I was talking about you btw when I said some people here would extrapolate ONE person not even saying it would do 40mil but that it wouldn't be the most shocking thing him into "Many people here are saying it would only open to 40mil, what fools"

    You’re fun.
This thread has been overrun with negativity for a while. A fan of the genre mocks a dumb or silly post. But here comes Coolio! He’s going to preemptively defend the comment against anyone who comments on it.

Does Coolio comment on the weird straw man that stans are denying that this movie is in a different spot than CM?

Nope. He’s here to rescue us from SpiderByte!

This movie will succeed or not, but SpiderByte better be careful!

Because one person mentioned it as a possibility I know who in here is gonna be like "You all said it was gonna open to $40 million!" and act like it's a win no matter what happens opening weekend.

    Yeahhhhh.
Are any of the “you all don’t understand reality” posters actually going to find a weird or unrealistic prediction from a stan?

    No. apparently not.
The fatigue people are so excited for this that they are projecting badly.

Many people seem to be in denial of that reality though. Back in the day, fanboy wars used to be mainly between Marvel and DC fans. Nowadays it's between CBM fatigue believers and those who are in denial of that reality and pretending like it's still 2019.

Personally, though, I don't think this thread is insufferable at all. This is just a normal movie thread, mostly consisting of people posting TV spots/other promotions of the movie, people making predictions on the movie, and people speculating how the strike will affect its promotion.

Honestly the constant "this thread is so toxic and insufferable and unreadable" posts many on here is perhaps the most repetitive thing on here.

Like, if you think this thread is such a dumpster fire, then just...leave. I don't know what else to say. Presumably, no one is forcing you to log on here every day and complain about this thread.

    Oh good grief, man.
You post skeptical stuff here over and over and over. Which is fine. People just question some of the skepticism.
But.. it’s not fanboy-ish to make rational posts about the numbers.
I challenge you to find a significant number of posters or posts that deny the market is different for cbms now.
Has anyone posted a prediction for more than $300m domestic? That’s losing about a third of first gross (with inflation).  Everyone is agreeing drop will be significant.
The stans are being very reasonable.
The fatiguers are acting like this is their Super Bowl.

  5. Part of my optimism over the OW/start is that the field should be pretty open.
    11/3 -Priscilla from A24

    10/27 - Friday Night at Freddy’s

10/20 - Killers of the Flower Moon

10/13 - Taylor Swift concert movie

FNAF and KOTFM will do well, but seem like pretty different audiences. Due respect to Priscilla, but the 11/3 weekend allows for more burn off in interest everything else.
Taylor movie will be massive of course. Certainly some overlap in audience or at least hoped for audience. I give big credit to anyone who correctly predicts Taylor movie well. Seems like legs would burn out but we are merely living in her world so… I don’t know.
Will seeing Marvels trailers push interest from young female fans? Maybe wishful thinking. We’ll see.

Why are people constantly acting like this thread is some kind of unique dumpster fire when it’s really rather tame and civil?

I don’t spend a lot of time in other threads this far out or if I will never see it I almost always stay out of threads when my main purpose would be to say, “I don’t feel buzz for a movie that would never interest me.”

(Sound of Freedom was an exception because it was an abomination that deserved mockery.)
I guess I’m fascinated by how many people are (arguably) concern trolling. Separately, I think some of the conversation is driven by girls-are-icky thinking.

  7. It’s really a crazy concept. First movie was set in 1990s with a character who was a kid. Second movie is set in 2020s and character is an adult.
    Questions…

If a character is older in a sequel, are they really the same character or is the character older by virtue of being older?

Has it ever happened in a CBM or any movie that a character has been recast because the movie is set when the character’s age is different?

Is Iron Man’s suit actually Iron?

    That’s a good recent example.

To me, it’s clear that it is rare for a sequel to drop so much in this day and age. Not impossible—just not likely.

    Yes.
The reasons for the sequel here to drop are real, but the math for some of these predictions is pretty unlikely given where CM landed.
I’m not gonna get over it being lumped in with AM as a franchise.

I honestly think some of the pile on was a bit unnecessary and some of her peers need to perhaps think before they post their thoughts. Most were fine but some like Bradley Whitford for example just came across as nasty and almost threatening.

You think people are trying to be mad, they’re overreacting, this stuff is forgettable… I’m pretty sure that people who are economically and philosophically committed to this don’t need your advice.

  10. Update: Bill Maher is trash.
His tweet about this was completely on brand. He’s serving money and ego, but he still has the gall to suggest he’s doing it for other lower-paid workers.
