Don't you think that because the prequels were underwhelming, that created even more demand for this film? Bear with me.
Several things had to happen to get the world's appetite for this movie to be insatiable. George makes three films that made money but obviously not the kind of money they could have. TPM was the only true massive film and that obviously had a lot to do with it being the first SW film in 16 years. But then the entire series is under whelming to a lot of people. So then George sells Lucasfilm to Disney and then they decide that the next series of films is going to have the old cast return. These three things, imo, are what made SW so anticipated. With the prequels disappointing so many this just made Disney be sure to make a film that all of the fans would enjoy. And then they went out and got ballsy. They hired JJ, an obvious Spielberg crony, and we all know how close George and Steve are. Then they decide that they are going to give us a story that has much closer ties to the originals. Then they paid Ford between 20-23 million dollars to appear in the film and once the trailer broke with him and Chewy "being home" and the shots of the Falcon and so on, it was game on. But imo, none of this is possible without the prequels being what they were. They just created more demand for a better SW film. And voila, this is the result. They paid much more attention to what made the originals so endearing to the fans, and they capitalized on that. But again, imo, all of this is possible because of the lackluster prequels.
I completely agree! The fact that the prequels exist gives fans something to compare this new trilogy to. Something that wasn't made 30+ years ago! Most WOM includes something along the lines of "what the prequels should have been" . This is boosting it for sure.

How many weekends will TFA stay at #1??
-
It will make it to 999,850,352... Disney will just leave it at that.

Disney won't put SW against Avatar. The "Avatar World" that's coming to DISNEY Animal Kingdom is based partly on the new movies... They want Avatar to do well. Those enormous theme park lands (hp world, cars land) are huge investments that require BO numbers to justify the expense.

Incredible... TFA doesn't just top records... It speeds past them at light speed.
How many weekend records before it gets matched by Titanic or Avatar... Around weekend 6 or 7?

I'm sure this has been discussed already... But has anyone else noticed the lighting during the scene when Han dies? When the light is shining down on Ren he looks like he sincerely wants help from his father... The moment the light is gone he uses the saber to murder his father. I think he was genuinely battling with his 2 options and made the decision to kill Han last second.
He is an impulsive emotionally unstable and immature villian. Han almost persuaded him back to the light. Almost.

My local theaters offer D-BOX seating. Force Awakens is sold out for D-BOX & D-BOX 3D into next week. Thinking I'll give it a try. About 20 bucks a ticket.

Amazing for Christmas Eve. So is this the largest non opening Thursday?

I haven't used this account in 2 years... I Just had to reset my forgotten password. I've been lurking these boards like crazy since TFA came out. Thought I ought to make a comment.
What an amazing week. It's fun to watch history unfold.
Wish Rth would post so I could go to bed.
Merry Christmas!

Goodness, Shrek 5?? Come On Dreamworks, I know you have more in you than this!

The Nut Job is going to be hit hard by Lego. Maybe they won't be so quick to report numbers then

Is the first time Frozen hasn't been in the top 5?
-
I was never into Legos as a kid... I was more of a knex guy. But I hadn't thought of the nostalgia factor, good pointAre you kidding? Lego has amazing nostalgia appeal. I want to see the film just to see 1980s Spaceman-with-a-broken-helmet.

My nephew is very excited about the Lego movie... Maybe the parents will drop the kids off at Lego while they watch frozen. haha. I can't imagine the Lego movie having the same adult + kid appeal that Frozen has. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. Frozen finally having competition in it's.. 10th, 11th week? I think by that point in a movies run the effects of competing movies aren't as big of a deal... Because by the 10th week the audience is a lot of repeat business and those who finally are willing to go because it's in the cheap theater. But I'm no expert.Plus, I saw frozen twice last week. Not one single kid in either showing. No joke. One of the showings was even a matinee. Lego might not hurt frozen at all... It will likely push it into cheaper theaters which could help it. But again, I have no idea just thinking out loud.

I agree with this... 400M is just out of reach. But on the other hand, a few weeks ago DM2 was out of reach...So who knows? 400 would be astonishing, but so would 380-390.I don't think it will get to 400. It's going to need some veeery strong holds to get there. I think at this point passing DM2 is a really good goal and as obvious as it is that it will get there, I just don't think it will go much higher.

Yeah, it looks like DM2 is a lock now. Good job Frozen, I never thought DM2 numbers were possible.frozen- $803,103 +10%
DM2 HERE WE COME

Impressive. Tangled went up 1.4% Wednesday... If frozen continues to out perform it, it could be back above 1M on Wednesday,Frozen up 24.6% vs Tangled's 15.7%

Wow. Titanic was insane. What about movies in Frozens league hahahaha.
-
I knew Frozens streak would end today... 47 days is impressive though. How does that compare to other movies? What's the record?
-
im no numbers genius, I've only been here for a bit... But that weekend hold is pretty incredible. I don't think 400M is a lock by any means, but just the fact that it's within reach is mind blowing and a feat in and of itself.FROZEN will eventually hit $400M. Incredible.

Hell, I'd be shocked if much higher than 12 with less than 3 on Friday ...
Yeah, 14 seems way too high. I was thinking Friday would be over 3 million for sure. Maybe saturday will have a bigger than expected increase because of school. In my area, Frozen is only playing through the Matinee hours, no night showings. (What about other areas? anyone else seeing the evening showings getting cut?) So any kids getting out of school today had only 1, maybe 2 showings to see before it was done for the day. The Saturday increase would have to be pretty big though to reach 14. I guess anything is possible.

Just think of the animated gifs.....
I had to sign in and comment on this. Made me laugh out loud, for real. That's rare. haha.
