  2. Which 2014 Movies Could Reach $1 Billion?

    by box office mojo

Back in 2010, Alice in Wonderland became one of the rare "original" movies to earn over $1 billion worldwide. Remodeling iconic fantasies in big-budget live-action form has since become a major part of Disney's strategy. Unfortunately, Oz The Great and Powerful earned less than half as much as Alice in Wonderland, suggesting that movie's success was an anomaly. Featuring theSleeping Beauty villain as the protagonist, Maleficent is an even tougher sell. Odds: 10%

    :)

    :D

  3. Finally box office.com released its prediction!

    Lone range forecast:

    Maleficent

    PROS:

    - Even though it's still in its early stages, the marketing campaign has been very successful. We are very encouraged by the Facebook and Twitter activity that the film's trailers have generated.
    - This will definitely tap into the same enthusiasm for female-driven Disney stories that turned Frozen into such a massive hit.
    - Few movie stars are more globally recognizable than star Angeline Jolie. All Jolie has to do is walk out of her house to generate a ton of publicity.
    - This is the first tentpole of the summer that's aimed predominantly at women.

    CONS:

    - Maleficent will have to compete in a typically crowded summer marketplace.
    - Is it possible that younger moviegoers may not be familiar with the Maleficent character?

    And the prediction is:
    $61,000,000 OW $191,000,000 Final

    Do you agree?

Last year they said their prediction for Oz and they said that it will have an OW of $55m and $160 Final but Oz did $79,1 OW and $234.9 Final!

I think that something like this will happen with Maleficent.

The facebook page of Maleficent has more likes than Oz!

And i don't agree withthe :Maleficent will have to compete in a typically crowded summer marketplace.

Because it opens on May the best month of the year and has still 2 weeks untill  How to train your dragon 2 opens!

It will have an OW of $80m!

  4. 350 might be optimistic, but I currently think it could do 175/325 for a 500 WW total.

If it does do that, it'll be Jolie's biggest film, OS and WW, outside of the KFP films. She's got success overseas, but hasn't demonstrated the punch that other stars like Depp have. (It's notable that The Tourist, her co-starring venture with Depp, is her second-biggest live-action film to date OS.)

It's entirely possible the film performs right at SWATH levels: 150 DOM, 250 OS, for a 400 WW.

    Why so low?

  5. No way. They would rather nominate her for Maleficent (even if reviews for Mal were bad and Unbroken good) than let her in for Best Director. They didn't even let Bigelow get second fully deserved nom. This is the most white-old-fart-dudes category

Maleficent reviews weren't bad it hasn't released yet and the trailer took huge reaction from fans!

  6. Fine debut for Elegant Lies. It should do well for the next few weeks.

Monster took first place on Thursday and Friday, but tumbled after that due to bad WOM. (It's a really terrible movie anyway)

It seems Non-stop can get to 2m while 300: ROAE cannot.

    Although it's not Slumdog Millionaire/The King's Speech level, I'm satisfied with 12 Years a Slave's run.

Noah is already on top of presales chart with 13,600 tickets. It may do huge next week.

How much do you think Noah can do?

  7. Check this

In your opinion, is the European blockbuster ready to compete with the Hollywood blockbuster?
Christophe Gans:Beauty and the Beast’s budget is that of a major European comedy. My film cost €35 million, and Dany Boon’s new comedy cost €32 million. We are able to compete with the American blockbusters – all the more so because our films cost a lot less. This implies a meticulous preparation process with people who know what they’re doing, and which we have here in Europe. We must therefore be able to repatriate our franchises, our fairy-tales, Greek mythology or the tales of Jules Verne, for example, in order to make them into European blockbusters. As soon as I announced that I was making Beauty and the Beast, Hollywood announced it was making two other adaptations of the story at the same time: one by Guillermo Del Toro and starring Emma Watson, and the other one from the Disney studios. Today, my film is in the cinemas, whereas those two American projects still haven’t started up. Those versions cost too much money and take forever to see the light of day. In Hollywood, a film like that costs $200 million, which means that the studios need $600 million to recoup their investment. No American film does that well at the box office in its own country. Beauty and the Beast only needs three million admissions because it is not as expensive to finance. We’re already not that far off one million tickets sold in France in the first week of screening, and the film has been sold everywhere…

    screendaily.com

"300: Rise Of An Empire already plundered a number one debut in France with Wednesday’s (5) $1.8m launch.

The Gallic opening was strong enough to usurp Dany Boon’s local title Supercondriaque, no mean feat considering the French filmmaker’s wide appeal."

Is that better than the first one?
