    Yeah, Messiah is gonna happen.

My theory on why they haven’t officially announced it yet is Legendary is waiting for Denis to line up his “in between” project first. I’m thinking they want to set a release date, but can’t do that until they know when Denis can commit to filming Messiah. 2027/2028 sounds about right to keep momentum going.

I heard they will decide on Dune Messiah depending on if/when it breaks even which needs to be at least $600 M. Budget was $190 M and marketing was apparently  $150 M.

Audience was really into the movie, people who would go to the bathroom would slow walk as to not miss a scene lol Javier Bardem got a couple laughs in the movie.

Lots of applause at the end of the movie

I think there is more emotional payoff here but I wouldn't say it's transformative. The important thing is that most characters are not being set up solely for a future arc, there is a genuine arc that our leads are going through with a promised payoff, and with it, emotional moments that result of that. Chani/Zendaya especially drive this. I still think there is a sterile-ness to it overall and I don't know, lack of a fully human touch that prevents it from being this 'all time great' that some declared, but it is a fair improvement.

I think this is why I don't consider it leagues over the first, fundamentally I think the two movies could stand to be a little weirder and a little less overly serious. Don't get me wrong, there is more humor in this film but the seriousness of its characters and tone feels oppressive in both films still. I guess it was never reasonable to expect they'd change much gears, but it's also why I can't consider one hugely better than the other.

    (0.598x) of ATSV $10.37M

    (2.351x) of Wonka $8.23M

    (2.334x) of Aquaman 2 $10.50M

    Comps AVG: $10.30M

    Mild review bump continues.

Couple of things to note: I might remove Barbie comp since that may drop all the way down to $8M by T-0. Oppy comp will be around $10M by T-0 if i had to guess.

Not too confident about $80M anymore, but still feel $75M+ is happening

Live in Miami and numbers in South Florida are lukewarm at best for Dune 2. Hope it improves by early next week. So far no sold out shows.

Oppenheimer is also a huge blockbuster, which have rarely ever won best picture. Directed by a man who has never won.

It’s rare for blockbusters to win but if the subject matter is one that the Academy likes it’s possible. (IE; war, WWII, Holocaust) it becomes easier. Schindlers List was another WWII era film that won Best Picture and was one of the highest grossing movies of the 1993.

You can never predict the Oscars, especially not at the very beginning of the year. Maybe some other movie comes along we haven't even on the radar now that gets all the momentum. I get it, fans want to be validated, but really, Oscars or no Oscars, the movie will be the movie. Don't stress over it.

Yeah and action/sci-fi films along with comedies have a difficult time winning in major categories at the Oscars. A sci fi film has never won Best Picture
