Well, movie has been online for months. They have nobody to blame but themselves, for such terrible release date. Japan should have been the first place to release the movie, not the last one, lol;
according to corpse piracy is pretty much non existent in japan. which is why there's no problem releasing a movie in japan even after it's already on dvds and blu ray in other countries. so the fact that it's bombing hard there could only be blamed to it's overall terrible reception

My bias for Valerian is obviously there, but honestly, a space epic that doesn't start with "Star" or made by some big name auteurs (Cameron, Nolan, blah blah blah) getting some love wouldn't hurt anyone or anything really.
If you don't like seeing other people liking and rooting for something that you don't because you think nothing that doesn't appeals to you should be made or be liked then I don't think the problem is the movie.

Yes Dangal was screened in Indonesia, I saw it here. But I think in Jakarta it was only in two theaters. I didn't check other cities though. So it's a limited release. But it was screened for months. I remember seeing the list of movies and thinking "Dangal is still playing?". So I'm guessing it did really well in that limited release.
it was played in surabaya for a while in at least one theatre.

It would be incredible if not one but two superhero films surpassed GOTG's multiplier the same summer!!! What are Spider-Man: Homecoming 's chances to go the distance?
we'll know in a week or two, obviously. the only film that targets the same demographic for the rest of july is valerian so it had that going for it.

1 1 Despicable Me 3 Universal 4,536 +7 +0.2% - - - - 2
why is universal still adding theater to already record breaking release scope when the opening came in well below the tracking?
universal really like minion more than Fast and Furious......
their love for minions stems from the same reason disney whores out another cars movie this year

sweet 20 is actually very entertaining. still waiting for Valerian because my eyes need something to jerk off to.

looks terrible but my friends are gonna drag me to watch this

in. i think this have a chance to beat The Bodyguard's unadjusted gross ($121.9) if they ride on the wacky action flick right.
also, nick fury and deadpool? the 12 years old marvel fan (a bit redundant i know) inside of me is squealing

If that was the case, Cars would have definitely been a lot lower. There have be many more liked franchises through the years.
It is judge that the subject was very very suitable for merchandise.
Would it ever be possible for Shrek to be a top merchandise brand?
you'd be surprised just how hard they were pushing shrek merch when it was big

exactly, nothing great or bad, it's just there. But that's not a bad thing. Just shows it wasn't going to break out even with some law going around
considering it's an edgar wright movie, baby driver's number is considered a breakout tbh

that poster actually looks nice.
still, i read somewhere that the movie tested very poorly. i wonder if that's true since it won't really be a surprise

Yeah even casual moviegoers/youtubers are hating on it. Weird. I am just hating that it costed so much and is potentially going to bomb hard. Sad really.
why do you hate it that this movie cost much? it's not like besson held you in a gunpoint and tell you to pay for the $200 million budget.
unless you're a europacorp employee that might lose your job from the movie bombing, i really don't see why a movie's financial prospect gonna affect what you feel about it when you haven't even watched it yet

Look at Zootopia being there despite only grossing half the total of everything else in the list.
Next week's drop for BATB will be pretty harsh, maybe 50%+?

ugh, why do i have to be reminded that hop exists? i hate that one even more than minion. in the other hand, i like the lorax a lot so my taste is kind of weird really

Wow, the first and third one is much better than I remembered. The action, pacing, and the human element actually meshes together well. Second and fourth is alright, but the fifth one is boring as hell.
-
And to think I have doubts when I made my TF5 5days under Moana's 5days club
-
With $9,5 million true Wed, then even $60 million 5-days will be hard. Still, maybe it can pull a Shrek 2 and make a bigger than expected Friday jump.

This looks nice, shame that this probably wouldn't get released in my country.

I don't get the hate for this franchise.
I would take the first movie over things like Moana, Frozen, Zootopia.
It has so much more heart and better humour. And best of all, it is not pretending to be anything more than it is;
An light, adorable film to have a good time for 2 hours.
The two Despicable Me films are great. Fun, inoffensive and have plenty of heart. Then the abomination that is Minions happen. I can't speak for others but I think that's the general consensus.

Nice to see this getting decent reviews. Anything over 60% in RT and 50 in MC is all that I ask for.
Also finally watched Cars 2 and TGD out of sheer boredom and Cars 2 is actually alright?? Maybe a bit obnoxious at times, but overall it's competent. The Good Dinosaur is, well, good. Nothing special but I'll take it over 90% of the shit that other animation studios crapped out.

It's very easy to say that now, though. That's all I'm saying.
I guess I get it since at some point August is pretty crowded as well, but I stood by that moving it to right before a massive bloodbath is not a really good move (Maybe they got really confident from the early screenings and whatnot? It does have a good critical reception).

Hindsight is 20/20. The date worked OK for PROMETHEUS and you've got to lock in dates a long ways off. It didn't work for them this time but I don't think "dumb" is the right word.
Isn't the previous dates that it have much better though? I swore at some point it's gonna be an early august release (which is now incredibly barren).

finally a dc superhero that i have an emotional investment to. the movie's greatest strength lies in it's strong character and well streamlined story.
also, i love love love that we get scenes where diana and steve just... talks. like, it's not plot related talks, just them being human and talk with each other??? and it feels authentic?? gal and chris works together very well, and it really lifts the whole things up.
one of my favourite of the year so far. A+
