The Last Exorcism (2010) doesn’t deserve a D IMO. It’s one of the best films on that list.

The Last Exorcism, The Possession and The Exorcism of Emily Rose are all solid.

Emily Rose managed to open to $30m 18 years ago.

I’m reminded of Exorcist 3 being hated by critics but it’s been reappraised. Some even think it’s better than the original (terrific film but let’s not too silly here.)

A lot of Asians do not have fond memories of Japanese rule in the 1940's to begin with..and Japan's trying to always portray itself as a victim does not help matters.

An element of nationalism is a persecution complex, blaming others for said nation’s mistakes/crimes or minimizing them.

Look at Russians for the last (checks watch) 17 months screaming online about “Russophobia” as if they didn’t start a war, blow up a dam, fire rockets at civilians, pulling out of a grain drain which threatens starvation of the 3rd world, etc.

As much as Americans and Chinese don’t agree on many things, we do agree that we look at whenever Japan* goes “woe me!” over 1945 and go really?

*=I got nothing against Japanese folks, that awful war was 80 years ago. But if you tell me the sky is purple, I’ll point out it’s actually blue.

oh and my parents saw dead reckoning as huge fans of the franchise since III and it's the first time i've ever heard them walk away from one of them disappointed. Both Mom and Dad only had complaints for me with maybe a couple "i guess this part was alright." maybe it's time to face that this might not actually have that good wom (yes i recognize me saying this from just my parents anecdotal evidence is somewhat ridiculous but come on)

Last weekend's thread, some folks weren't happy when I suggested perhaps this installment wasn't cutting the mustard for many viewers like maybe the previous entries. But you have to look at the data and consider this as a legit possibility.

How is it more routine than RN?

You mean the movie that introduced a new fan favorite character in Ferguson that they brought her back several times? I remember she brought a certain fresh energy to the ensemble which helped that film/formula out. Not routine.

  5. OT but The miracle of Barbenheimer is that that easily could’ve been a nasty online film discourse war between two different blockbusters going after two different things, screams of “FilmBro!” and “Woke!” and what not.

Sure you get some of that nonsense (the latter you’re hearing from political hacks and the usual clickbait merchants) but overall I would say the opposite is what happened for the majority. It’s nice overall people seem energized in a positive fashion for both films, and the stellar reviews and WOM for both is adding to it. You wish it would be like this most of the time.

unfortunately it isn’t, so let’s enjoy this moment.

Jesus, MI7 is just crumbling. Paramount needs to be better with release dates, they have had a solid year in terms of quality - MI7 is amazing, D&D was shockingly great, Transformers is actually pretty good, Scream VI is great - but outside of Scream most of their films either suffered weak marketing, bad release timing, or both. I bet they are praying TMNT breaks out.

Locals will inhale copium about how it’s great, but as somebody who gave it a good review….this is the first entry in the McQuarrie era of this franchise that felt routine. Didn’t knock my socks off like Fallout (one of the great 2010s blockbusters) did and discourse has already moved on from this. No “oh can’t wait for the resolution to this story!” It’s a better made Fast X.

Paramount underestimating Nolan and a doll plays a part in the MI legs BUT…it’s not a film screaming for a rewatch soon like Maverick last year did.

Lmao there is currently a large mechanized land war on this continent involving the biggest nuclear power that only seems to be heading down a path of indefinite escalation and most of it is more interested in the silly doll movie over the very relevant, timely, and excellent Oppenheimer, including the two countries at war.   God help us all.

It’s because of that war and potential endgame* why many folks want escapism of any kind to distract from what is daily news. Shouldn’t be a surprise or revelation. Granted flipside th current reality give Oppenheimer some relevancy beyond just another WW2/Cold War period piece.

*=Personally I think those nuclear fears are overblown. It’s a no win situation for Moscow (or the West, but they’re less likely to push the button than a government threatening daily and their bluffs more called than a bad poker player.) Now could a war happen? Sure. But it would be less The Day After and more Red Storm Rising.

    Green Lantern

Blaming him for GL is like blaming Goyer for MOS/BVS. I mean yeah he was a writer on it, but was either calling the creative shots that made it in the final cut.

At least with those tv shows for better or worse, he’s the executive producer. Blame (or credit?) away!

I  have to wonder just how much this film is going

RDJ problems were basically drug and alcohol addiction problems; Miller's are a lot more then that.

Miller's legal problems might be lot worse then what RDJ faced.

IIRC RDJ once drunk broke into somebody’s house and passed out. Dude was a dumpster fire in that era.

Wow lots of attempts to deflect away from Ezra here

Not a fan of this accusatory tone? Weird implication, as if you're trying to create some war or narrative.

I'm personally on the record of only wanting this movie to succeed for Sasha Calle as Supergirl. But I do not care about the movie itself nor Ezra Miller who needs immediate help. This has been a disaster for WB

But still, is it not necessary to mention the supposed quality of the film? That seems to be apart of the conversation. WB/DC has a good movie reportedly yet no plan on how to release it given the news

Sometimes you project way more into my words than needed. Sometimes silence is the wisest course of action instead of volunteering.

I was just more making a point that we have a real life messy situation but people constantly frame it all about the movie, when it’s just that: a movie. One also meant to reboot a universe or whatever. That means something to many people with investment in this universe. I’m not one of them but regardless this is a fact.

“One example: Greg Berlanti, who oversees many of DC’s television properties, has been loudly whispered as a possibility for the role — but no one from Warner Bros. has actually approached his camp, Berlanti has not pursued the job, and insiders believe that the superstar producer wouldn’t be interested in going in-house.”

Despite his success with his “FlashArrowVerse” (or BerlantiVerse) in creating a live action DC comics shared universe on TV with team-up events, DC Cinematic reddit is pretty negative about this possibility.

He could make it work, but WB would find a way to break his legs before the marathon starts.

Static Shock should’ve been on film by now.

It seems like such a no brainer project.

This narrative is tiresome. They aren't cancelling projects because they have PoC in them but now that PoC are getting cast a lot more in the lead than before, chances that some projects with them get cancelled go up. Shows and movies with white leads don't go forward all the time and no one notices. It's just the nature of the beast. As is quality. not every movie directed and starring PoC is going to knock it out of the park so no reason to look for motives for bad reviews, poor audience reception etc that aren't there. The more you produce the more you are going to churn out crap no matter who stars in and directs it.

There's asbolutely no point in posting random click-bait tweets that think they discovered fire when in reality don't know how everything works.

let’s be honest: it’s only glaring here because of the ole Ezra mess and WB letting everybody know the movie is allegedly great (which deconstructing studio hype means it’s ok.)

God, it's hopeless. The Synder fanboys will never get out of the denial stage.

the way many of them acted over Batgirl is just fascinating. Talk about “irony” not in their dictionary.

That alleged budget number though…it’ll have to do gangbusters just to break even.

  15. Last movie was my favorite DCEU film and this looks to be more of the same with Mirren looking like she's in camp mode which I'm down for (1st movie should've been a bigger hit but yanno squeezed between Marvel joints, DC fans alienated by a movie aimed at children which reminds them most of these characters originally were created for kids, OS markets not going for the humor, etc.)

It's odd how we saw nothing from Aquaman 2 or Flash (the former being MIA at the panel is surprising, the latter wasn't) considering both showed up in this trailer.

If we ever get another justice league movie, Levy will be a fun presence within that ensemble.
