That’s ridiculous I’d say the reverse is more true. Timothee proved himself with Call Me by Your Name and his early theater work. He hasn’t been on that level since except for maybe Beautiful Boy where he was pretty great. He got in for his talents but has been given roles still from the hype after CMBYN. This isn’t a matter of race Hollywood has changed so much from the last couple of years. There hasn’t been a major Hollywood film where a POC isn’t playing at least a major supporting role. We should recognize and celebrate that and stop the divisive racial complaining people love to continue to do. You aren’t a better or moral person for only wanting perfection and putting down people for not living up to your misguided standards.

John David Washington, who has also The nepotism aurea just like Timothee, also proved to be a great actor in BlacKkKlansman, right? No. People continue to claim he's weak and has no charisma despite John being more charismatic than Timothee. It doesn't mean much, but I don't see people worshiping John David like they do to Timothee. An expressionless white person is sold as cute, but an expressionless black person means lack of charisma, right? Let's not pretend that the reason is his skin colour.

How many flops has Ryan Gosling been in and he still keeps working.

The main difference between them is that Ryan has a lot of talent and got several jobs when he was young thanks to his talent only. He is not an industry plant like the protagonist of Wonka.

    White privilege???

Yes, Timothee hasn't proven himself to be a great actor, he's not good at roles that require charisma, and he hasn't proven to have the comedic timing to be considered a diverse actor, but people treat him like he's one of the best new talents. If he was a black actor (and wasn't a nepobaby, mainly), he wouldn't be treated like this

Can somebody who has the read the book explain to me what Snow thought was going to happen to his friend when he recorded that conversation? It was weird seeing him cry about it later.

I haven't read the book, but this is in the movie

    Spoiler

In one of Snow's conversations with Sejanus, Snow tells Sejanus not to do anything that breaks the rules so that he (Snow) doesn't end up being punished with him (Sejanus). Sejanus refuses, then Snow records the conversation to protect and free himself from any punishment for Sejanus' actions.

Snow cries because his conscience weighed heavily when he saw that his 'friend' had a photo of them together in his suitcase. He felt guilty for a moment.

A B+ grade for Hunger Games doesn't seem that great considering it had a big fan rush for opening day. Guess it all depends on how frontloaded it is, and what its drop looks like next weekend even with Thanksgiving (it loses all IMAX/PLF screens to Napoleon and Wish on Wednesday).

Based on the early numbers, fans don't seem to be rushing anything and if i'm being honest, this TBOSS cinemascore is very good for what it is. GA doesn't fall in love with films where the protagonist is a villain/bad nature.
    Some examples:

Also, I think THG may end up our best chance for a 100 DOM grosser this month, and it’s not even a sure thing at all.

Reupping my “doomsday holiday box office scenario” from last month when I said the November worst case wouldn’t even surprise me. Now keep in mind, these were worst case scenarios, meaning these movies were hated rather than just mid like most of them seem to be.

But yeah, not exactly far off. Also keep in mind, I’m not actually predicting that at all for Wonka next month, just a “worst case” thing.

What if Trolls, THG, and Thanksgiving all “split the pie” this weekend with 20 something debuts? Not saying it will happen, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

I am genuinely curious how this will manage to pull anyone outside of the most diehard THG fans under all the circumstances now. I feel like the tracking suggesting a Ms Marvel opening is way way too high tbh

Thanksgiving is high key going to be the most acclaimed movie of holiday season, isn’t it? Lmao.

RIP the hunger games, I’d say next to zero shot at 100 DOM now that it’s rotten. Could see it going as low as 80 total and failing to beat the Marvels. At least Disney may have some kind of a silver lining after all? Although I better not hear anyone use “no cast promo!” as a Marvels excuse now since THG got it.

It's funny that you're saying THG:TBOSS is only for die hard fans of the franchise, but you used to love the franchise and praised MJ2, which is the worst film in the quadrilogy.

Now you're going after a franchise that you once loved. From what I can see, you only enjoy the franchise when it's doing huge numbers, right?

How much does THG:TBOSS have to do to get you back into the franchise?

I’ve read some reviews lately for this and other recent blockbusters that also gave me this vibe of being a bit lazy. Stuff like complaining about not being able to follow something that was pretty clear in the movie or saying something wasn’t explained at all in a sequel when that was a key plot point of the movie before that.

Maybe it’s just a symptom of how the GA is facing blockbusters these days, and that’s fair enough, but I kind of expect a bit better from critics I guess, at least when it comes to following the plot itself or remembering the movie that came before it.

    Exactly!
Damn! They literally make money off these reviews. The MINIMUM they should do is goes deeper into the work and the works that precede it.

I have noticed that the level of reviews has collapsed after the rotten tomatoes scandal broke:
Rotten Tomatoes scores “manipulated” by firm paying critics for reviews

But apparently this has been happening long before:
This became easier to do in 2018 when the site loosened restrictions on who could join this pool, allowing more freelance, self-published critics as well as YouTubers and podcasters to contribute. Vulture states that Bunker 15 used this to its advantage, with several critics telling the outlet that the PR firm pays them $50 or more per positive review – despite Rotten Tomatoes’ ban on “reviewing based on a financial incentive.”

In other words, anyone without knowledge or respect can post a review there.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy the film as much as I did!

  8. The film is great. Great performances, smart script without being too didactic and wonderful production design.
Could shorten some songs in the film, some are unnecessarily long.

The script has some flaws, but nothing that compromises the overall picture.

Honestly, I'm shocked to see the negative reviews.
Now that "critics" are no longer getting paid to give positive reviews, many of them are lazier when it comes to reviewing a film. Many negative reviews I saw are complaining about the film being "too dark". WTF?

Anyway... for me it's the second best film in the franchise, behind Catching Fire.

PS: I haven't read the book and you don't need it to understand the film, just pay attention to what's going on and don't go to the toilet during the movie.

  9. The second trailer for THG5 is not trending on Twitter, but it has already surpassed the number of likes of the second trailer for The Marvels, which was released at the end of August (31.5k vs 26.5k, each one on their respective main page). It’s also not far behind the number of likes that the latest Guardians of the Galaxy 3 trailer has so far (39.3k).

Also, I took a quick look at the numbers for the second trailer for THG5 on Tik Tok, Instagram and Facebook and they will soon surpass the numbers of the second trailer for The Marvels.

I don’t believe THG5 will do bigger box office than The Marvels since the Marvel brand is way bigger, but THG5 numbers on social media are far from being bad.

Baffling that this hasn't seemed to be trending at ALL on Twitter. That is unheard of for a big franchise movie, especially one that should be YA-driven like this. Lionsgate is cursed outside of John Wick at this point.

Box Office Pro once had a really cool tool that showed the buzz of films on social media, such as mentions on Twitter and likes on Facebook. Fantastic Beasts (2016), another spin-off from a big YA franchise, always had pretty weak numbers on social media (especially on twitter) and still did well at the box office. I'm not saying that THG5 will do the same as FB, but I don't think the numbers on twitter proof anything.

DCU hasn’t even started yet so what are you going on and on about. They can’t market The Nun to the fullest because of the damn strike.

Warner has released 4 DC movies since 'The Suicide Squad' flopped terribly in 2021 (yeah, in the middle of a pandemic and being a hybrid release). 3 DC movies bombed just like TSS.
The Nun 2 will be the FIRST TCU release since 'The Conjuring 3' had a profit and a bigger box office than 'The Suicide Squad' under the same circumstances in 2021.

The marketing for The Nun 2 has been pretty damn good from what they can do without the actors they do TCU justice with this so you are really no making any sense

Good to know that they are running local campaigns while trying to go viral, but I would like to know how the campaign is doing at national and international level.
Buzz on the internet seems weak and I've seen a lot of ads for 'A Haunting In Venice', while I haven't seen any for 'The Nun 2'.

WB's last 2 major horror movies, Conjuring 3 and Evil Dead, were also major hits. So I don't know how you can say they can't market horror.

Every Paramount movie they've released this year has failed to make 2.5x their budget except for TMNT (barely) and Scream 6. They don't have anything close to Barbie's level of success this year.

If you combine the budget for all of Paramount's movies this year, it's around 750m. For WB, it's also around 750m for all their budgets combined.

However, if you combine the gross for all Paramount's movies this year, it's around 1.6 billion. For WB, it's around 2.6 billion. So WB clearly got a much better ROI than Paramount. Even if Barbie made $1b less than it actually did, that would still be the case.

My point is that Warner is leaving money on the table when it comes to TCU. Both EDR and TC3 (although this one had a decent marketing investment and bigger than what TN2 is having) were carried by the fan base, and so will be The Nun 2. If TCU had the same investment that Paramount gives to the Scream franchise, TCU would be at higher levels.

Another point against Warner is that 'Annabelle Comes Home' showed some elements/characters with potential for spin-off movies, but Warner prefers to invest heavily in a doomed franchise like the DCU.

If Warner doesn't want to invest in TCU's great potential, they should sell the franchise to a studio that would actually invest on it. I'm sure a studio like Paramount would benefit from it.

  13. 58 minutes ago, Bob Train said:

No thanks, Paramount sucks at marketing. See how all their movies have been underperforming this year except for Scream. Paramount has been choosing some awful release dates this year by releasing all their movies right next to breakout hits (D&D & Mario, Transformers & Spider-Verse, MI7/TMNT & Barbenheimer).

Also, WB has been having a pretty good box office this year. Combined budgets of all their movies this year is roughly 700m, whereas combined box office is at 2.6b. So over 3x, and they have a pretty strong slate for the end of the year.

WB also barely marketed Evil Dead and it was originally a streaming movie, but it still made bank. Marketing for horror movies is different than marketing for other movies. Nun 2 will for sure make bank, supernatural horror has very wide appeal, and horror has been on a roll lately. And many Asian/Latin American markets that go crazy for it have grown considerably since 2018.

Paramount did a great job marketing Scream 6 and Smile, their latest horror movies (same audience as the TCU movies are aimed at).

Of all Paramount's films this year, none flopped like The Flash and Shazam 2, Warner's films. Even D&D performed better if you take into account the budget and the aggressive, excessive and unnecessary marketing that Warner did for The Flash.

Half of Warner's total WW box office this year comes from just 1 film. It's great that Barbie came to save their ass, but that doesn't excuse the terrible flopage of their previous films.

  14. It's unbelievable the awful marketing work that Warner's doing with a film from a franchise that never gave them a financial loss, meanwhile, they continue to invest a lot of money in a franchise that gave several losses in a row.

Warner deserves the whole financial damage they have taken with DC.

I'll watch The Nun 2 at the preview, but I'll be praying that Warner sells the franchise rights to a decent studio like Paramount.

In 2021, in the midst of a pandemic, 'The Conjuring 3' made a profit and did more worldwide at the box office than the colossal bomb 'The Suicide Squad'. Warner chose to cancel a TCU spinoff and invest in the DCU. Okay, the movie they canceled from TCU had no potential, but 'Annabelle Comes Home' showed several characters and elements with great potential for a spin-off movie and Warner chose to ignore them. This year, The Nun 2 will likely do more than any DCU movie at the worldwide box office and will turn a profit while the DCU will end the year with a big loss. I would call it karma, but it was just Warner making dumb decisions.

  16. ‘The Nun II’ Looks For $30M+ Post Labor Day Blessing At Box Office — Early Look

    Quote

It’s still early for the film campaign wise with only two teaser posters released and the YouTube trailer at 26M views (versus The Meg 2‘s official trailer at 43M on the Warner Bros channel), so there’s a chance for upside.

Right now tracking stats for The Nun II look similar to Insidious: The Red Door, ($33M opening) despite the fact that the former is an R-rated movie, and the latter PG-13. Translation: Unaided awareness (the organic stat where those polled actually name a studio’s a movie as what they want to see without any prompting) is very hot among women under 25.
