Women flock to horror movies though,  why not gorey action

All I can describe is the experience of myself and my friends, not so much some sort of grand psychological reasoning behind it- I can't think of any R rated gorey action film that was particularly popular with women, but there could definitely be some I'm missing.

Females do not want to see female action films

I could see "R rated gorey action films aren't popular with women generally regardless of the characters" but just saying "female led action films aren't popular with women" is ridiculous given Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman were very successful with female audiences.

Going for young females, but making it R so they can’t see it is the main reason.

Seems to be confirmed in Deadline’s article. They loved it the most (94%) but the ones who got tickets could only make up 7% of the audience.

Maybe the 4 star exit polls are good news for legs and Valentine’s Day/ holiday weekend could help it eventually go over $100m.

It is hard to imagine older women wanting to watch it. Maybe if they put Chris Pratt in somewhere.

  4. BoP feels weird to me because it seems like its trying to be aimed at women, but I don't think what it is (an R rated comedy action movie) is very appealing to general female audiences. This is just my personal impression, but I can't imagine my mom ever wanting to watch this movie. And I do feel bad for the women who created and are starring in this movie but I think at least the ad campaign aimed at women was a bit misguided. I want to be clear though, obviously women watch female led superhero movies and they make money, we have plenty of evidence of that, I just think "deadpool but starring women" in particular was a hard sell to start with. I'm not worried about WW and BW at all however, I think they'll both do great.

In my view, TLJ is an objectively atrocious Star Wars film (there's no way it screen-tested as well as Disney would have liked) My claim is that even the people who defend it, do not really believe that it is a good movie, but not only are they lying to others, they are also lying to themselves as well. Is this too far-fetched? I say absolutely not! In matter of fact, the whole basis of psychoanalysis is that people lie to themselves constantly! I think that this is one such case. I remember my much younger self, that when The Phantom Menace came out, I was telling both others and myself that it was a great movie. My desire to have another great Star Wars movie, trumped any objective analysis, this happens exceedingly often with people. As for critics, please do allow me the suspicion that their motives can sometimes be suspect, not only in the very mundane and ever-present money/career sense, but also from a political standpoint etc etc etc..

I liked TLJ a lot. (Mostly for Rey/Kylo) Though I don't give a fuck about star wars lore or "respecting luke as a character" (luke has always been bland and boring to me) so I liked that his character was used to in a way that wasn't just some dumb 12 year old boys wish fulfillment. I wouldn't see it twice but it was a hell of a lot better than TFA which was a subpar retelling of an okay movie.

Making a Hawkeye solo movie probably wouldn't help them at all. I think he's the least interesting character in that universe and I don't think enough people care about him.  If it's a prequel, that's even worse.

I have no idea about a Black Widow movie. I dig the idea but at the same time I don't. I don't know if Widow alone can hold a full movie.

I doubt Widow will be alone. Winter Solider/Falcon will probably join as well. Marvel is being very tight lipped about it.

Well if I did a job speaking about boxoffice and I can't even take 15 min of my time to check something. I would question the integrity at that point. As a public figure you have some responsibility to the people you are informing. Or you might as well be Trump..

And it isn't only her, I have the same feeling towards campea. I and really love that guy, he gives fun reviews, keeps a good conversation with the audience. But sometimes he says things like 'you would be a complete idiot to think x' and X isn't even that unreasonable , than it happens and he doesn’t speak about it anymore.  I just want them to not be ignorant and act all knowing about something whilst not doing a good amount of research and letting other opinions in the mix.  If you are going to inform people it’s wise to know your own limits and to admit mistakes.

I just wish they wouldn't insult people for predicting things when they themselves don't bother to look at presales or any other metrics. I wouldn't mind if Grace was like "Avengers IW has less walk ups than the others so it won't hit 200m". Its not the predictions themselves- I don't even mind crazy predictions and think they can be fun- but the condescending way they talk down to people without actually looking at why people are predicting things. 230m was not a bad prediction for OW given presales. Was it way off? Yes, but that doesn't mean its bad.

All this wasted energy and anger just because I said that BP will start gaining fast (FACT) from this weekend on and that TA had a better third weekend (FACT).

Why do you always disappear from threads as soon as IW does well? Like you were all over China doing the daily public whine about how there was "0% chance of 500m" and now that its on track for 500m, its like wheres Thrylos? Shouldn't he be happy a movie he says he likes is performing above his expectations? Truly a mystery...

650 looks great to the people who thought 610 would be impossibly high (always seemed a bit silly to me).

650 doesn’t look so great to people who were hoping for 700-780 after The Weekend+Monday.

Imo the more reasonable expectations were always 620-720ish, and it will land there, so  nothing to hugely flip out over in either direction.

Sure. It's just amazing that BOT goes from "it's likely to hit 600m thats amazing" on sunday, to having a couple solid weekday holds, so suddenly 600 is trash. By amazing I mean fucking stupid, naturally.

After the great holds on first Monday expectations were a hell of a lot higher than $650m, what's with this revisionist history. Do you guys not remember going bonkers?

So 650m is extremely bad now because people got excited on Monday? What lol. A couple months ago people thought 600m+ was impossible.

This wasn’t the general feeling I was getting in the pre sales thread. Not making it to n.1 in midnights seems like a huge bad surprise to me, I was seeing numbers over 70 million being thrown for its midnights. I wonder how the weekend should go but I am definately way more cautious about its potential in the Chinese market.

Weren't you the one who was constantly saying that 650m dom was extremely disappointing?
