Man I can't get over the ATSV soundtrack, this song has been on loop all day for me

Hard agree on this track. I wasn't even a huge fan of the movie overall (I walked out liking it but never fully getting invested into the story in the way I hoped I would) but this has been looping in my head as I've studied for my last uni exam this semester. Especially the transition from ominous to triumphant about 2:30 in.

  2. I haven't messaged here in years but if we are doing MCU rankings:
    1. GotG Vol. 2
    2. Avengers: Endgame
    3. GotG Vol. 3
    4. Iron Man 3
    5. The Avengers
    6. Iron Man
    7. Black Panther
    8. Spider-man: Homecoming
    9. Guardians of the Galaxy
    10. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

GotG Vol. 3 was initially around 6-7 but the more I think about it the more I love it, I really enjoy the first Guardians movie but there is a portion in between for about thirty minutes right after the collector scene where I do slightly lose interest, still a top 10 MCU movie. Infinity War, MoM, Civil War and No Way Home all honourable mentions.

  3. People seem to confuse "critics didn't like it" with "if you are a critic, you didn't like it". The RT score of Aladdin means that if you talked to 10 critics, 6 would like it, if you talked to any critic, there is a greater chance that they liked it rather than didn't. Critics aren't a singular entity that can like or dislike a movie, sure there is a general consensus, but a general consensus doesn't mean that everyone agrees with it.

Rotten tomatoes isn't a review site that gave Aladdin a 6/10, it is a site that informs that 6 out of every 10 critics liked aladdin, again, that is more than didn't like it.

Sure, the critics' general consensus isn't as positive as the audience general consensus, i just think statements like "The critics were too harsh on this" don't really make much sense with how rotten tomatoes and a general consensus actually works.

So what IW also jumped 75% this weekend but never did over that amount again in it's run (correct me if I am wrong). Even BP which had one of the best Saturday jumps among the MCU never did more than 84%-85%.

90+% would still be more likely than 48%. It has had a higher saturday bump than Infinity War for every weekend (except its first) which makes sense because of the 3hr runtime. Obviously 90+% is ridiculous, but under 60% is even more far fetched.

seem like avengers making 2 films over $2Bww in the span of 1 year makes people think $2B is easy to achieve

I think especially the time that Endgame took to make it makes it look a lot smaller than it is. Avatar may or may not end up with a higher gross, but I think Endgame made 2B look smaller out of the two by doing it in 11 days. I think Endgame's time to 2B will be its longest standing record.

They give Venom 250 plus. After Infinity War & Endgame boost to Spider, its only reasonable.

Also Homecoming is very much an American high school comedy for the majority of it, which doesn't translate too well as it is specific to a single culture, hence not being too well received in a lot of non Western markets. This film seems like it has much more broad appeal and is much more important to the overarching story of the mcu (also has much more spectacle it seems, and the action looks like it is directed really nicely).

  7. Endgame is a different type of impressive from the other number 1 spot holders (if it makes it). Every other number 1 spot holder has come out of nowhere, and was a completely original film that became a phenomenon, generally they've spawned franchises, but they were original films. If Endgame makes it, it will be the first that didn't really come out of nowhere, and I think that's equally impressive. To make a franchise big enough that it gets the first franchise film in history to be the top grosser of all time without it breaking out and having ridiculous staying power, just simply because of the franchise it was apart of, it certainly is a different type of impressive from the others, but it is just as impressive.

People seem to be acting like, because Endgame is making this much because of its franchise, it is therefore less impressive. But I just think it is different, but equally as impressive. (of course it still is a chance to not beat avatar, but hopefully you get my point).

Thanks believe baumer and others jumped the gun that it was going to beat the champ. Titanic is definitely threatened sadly, but in terms of ticket sales and achievements. The titan no film can touch it. Hope titanic somehow sends Eg off keyser. Wow at that China number for E.g.. Is it heading for 550.mil in China?

It will be close/past titanic by Sunday, Titanic isn't "Threatened". Also China is heading for 625+. I don't know if you are talking about purely overseas numbers, but nothing has changed, it is still on track to beat Avatar worldwide, not certain, but on track.

Winter Soldier score is good.  Civil War on the other hand:gold: the only good theme in Civil War is the one that plays when the 2 teams start running at each other.

Civil War has a disappointing score, there are 3 really good tracks, but unfortunately most of it is a "white noise action scene" soundtrack.

But yay we got Henry Jackman instead....

though I actually like the Winter Soldier score for what it was trying to accomplish

I actually really love The Winter Soldier score. Has some great moments.
If I were ranking my top Marvel scores it would go
    1. Endgame
    2. Black Panther
    3. Winter Soldier
    4. Infinity War
    5. Avengers
Also shoutout to the Spider-man Homecoming score. It seems to get a lot of crap but I actually really like it and the tone it goes for, very easy to listen to, and I actually remember the theme that a lot of people call completely unmemorable.

  11. I can't believe Endgame of all movies, which was literally a lock to break the opening weekend record before its release is going above expectations in a comparable way to Black Panther. Obviously not as much percentage wise, but even the biggest MCU fanboy in me didn't expect something this big.

I might be in the minority here but I thought Infinity War was kind of bad and Endgame was really good, maybe on the verge of great (need a rewatch but the biggest detractor for me at the moment is the action which just gets tiring).

    Infinity War - 4/10

Endgame - 7/10, maybe 8 (6th best superhero movie ever and second best MCU movie)

Similar response to David Ehrlich. He gave Infinity War a 4/10 and Endgame an 8/10. I think the main difference is that Infinity War is focused on being a shocking blockbuster (which works great for a lot including myself), while Endgame is more about the characters and is genuinely touching in a few places.

Credits are rolling now. It's going to make a run at Avatar, and I think it's going over. 300m OW is happening.

Yeah before the numbers came in for presales I gave it a 0.5% chance, then after a 5% chance, then after opening day numbers (particularly China), I have it at a 10% chance. After watching it, I honestly think it has over a 20% chance at Avatar, Fan service in all the best possible ways, and the runtime just flies by. People will want to rewatch this in theatres, and I wouldn't be surprised by an A+ cinemascore. Still unlikely that it makes Avatar numbers, but right now I think it is actually a genuine chance.

Sunday is not a work day in China.....

and since when have we lumped running totals into the OW numbers?

The only thing that gets lumped in is Thursday previews, that's the standard that we work too.

This specific Sunday is a workday I'm pretty sure. https://www.china-briefing.com/news/chinas-2019-holiday-schedule/

You can see here that there is a labour "week" and there are adjusted Sunday working days. But my point is, this 3 day isn't comparable to other 3 days. If you don't want to lump in the rest of the week (which the reports will), that is fine, but just understand that this 3 day isn't a normal 3 day, because it will have already made well over $100 million before the 3 day weekend.

    K.

My prediction is for 3 day weekend opening, not interested in fudges.

There is no way that Endgame gets to 200M in a 3 day opening weekend in China, simply because Sunday is a work day, and it will have had 2 of the biggest opening days in history before its 3 day opening weekend. Predicting the 3 day doesn't really have any relevance, because it isn't comparable to any other 3 day opening weekend.

I don't put much stock in trailer views because of the multiple places people can watch them which aren't counted, but as others pointed out below your numbers are mistaken. Where would you be getting these numbers ? As I don't think you would lie for no reason.

I think it is because the official upload from DreamworksTV has about a third of the views of the most viewed upload.

Trailer really lagging far behind the views for the other 3 animated trailers this week. Yeah, not seeing anymore than 150 in a best case scenario for this. Given how 2 performed, the schedule, and how long the gap is, it could end up as low as the 115–130 range.

That is the official channel upload, It's most viewed upload is already at WiR 2's views and way ahead of The Lego Movie 2, you may be taking this into consideration but I'm just making sure, also, in Australia, that upload is number 1 on trending, only the Spider-verse trailer also got to number 1 on trending, the other 2 didn't (or didn't for very long).
