We do not know how much profit Ant-Man did or is net budget (being a Georgia production), we will never know where this land, chance are good we will never even know the movie budget (Canada production historically, we rely on someone telling it at one point and they not always do).

UK tax report seem to indicate 170m gross spending on Ant Man, making 130m net possible but a bit low:

Avengers 3 look really low here, but that from an April 2018 article with the accounting just starting.

Has for huge / descent success, I think one is taking the opportunity cost of using a SH annual slot into account and the strength of the genre here, it is hard to dissociated itself completely from it (Like if Solo had the Fury Road budget and did similar, the subjective notion of how successful it is would be quite different, same if Captain Marvel would have done Mission Impossible fallout domestic numbers...).

How much of being a huge or descent or deception success depend of what the studio did put on their budgeted prediction at greenlight time, beginning of the year time, last quarter time, etc... will see the legs on it and Japan, etc.. etc... but it seem headed more on the descent success than the huge one.

The end results speak for themselves: Ant-Man delivered a $103M net profit, and a Cash on Cash Return of 1.31. Marvel is hard at work on Ant-Man And The Wasp, the latter being played by Evangeline Lilly.

i got the net profit from Deadline here yeah they could be wrong i do not think anyone knows what profit movies make other than the studios.

A script for the sequel has reportedly been ordered, it is a good sign but doesn't necessarily mean S2 has been greenlit.

You are not serious right. Shazam is already a hit in its 2nd weekend at the Boxoffice and will absolutely get a sequel. I can even see in the sequel they will introduce Black Adam so he will already be known in his own movie. Kind of like Black Panther and Spider-Man in CA:Civil War.

What a ridiculous excuse. Movies have different release dates, yes that's how this business works. So because people don't have time to go and watch Shazam!, it's actually making more money? 🤣

Its actually been proven. Summer weekdays make more compared to weekdays people are on jobs and in school. But you do not have to believe it. Its all the same to me.

why are you removing the China money....?

sorry but Shazam is not doing as well as ant-man. you're in denial.

No you are the one in denial here . Shazam cost less. Ant-Man is on $519 million WW without China its on $414. Shazam will make $60-65 million less there. Ant-Man was in theters during the summer where everyone has more time. Shazam is in theaters in normal school and work days. Shazam is doing just as good as Ant-Man.

It is not on track to make 103 million net revenue. People shouldn't die on this hill because mathematically it's not possible.  I do think profit like First Avenger is possible if not probable.

    11 minutes ago, TalismanRing said:

No.  There will be about a $60m dollar difference in China but around $150m less WW.

It also cost 40-50 million less. Lets break some numbers down. Ant-Man cost $130 million. Shazam cost $80-90 million.

Ant-Man OS numbers minus China is 234 million. Shazam will finish on this less or take.

Yeah with a lower budget Shazam is Ant-Man numbers.

SHAZAM! is going to be profitable so that's good but I don't think there's any question it should have made more.  It is loved by critics and it is loved by most people who have seen it.  So that goes back to marketing.  WB is usually on point with this but something happened this time around. SHAZAM! is not a household name.  I expected Ant-Man numbers.  Maybe domestic it can get there.  However,  overseas was NOT on board with this project.

It's a shame because I don't want to see comic book movies that always rely on big huge save the world set pieces. But if grounded comic books cannot make a dent with overseas markets then I feel we will see studios continue to give us huge clusterfuck big third acts and the heart will be missing..

It is Ant-Man numbers. So that is great for it. The only where its not Ant-Man numbers is in China. Ant-Man also was in theaters in the summer months so that was another plus for it where schools are closed and people are on vacation.

    Overall

    Last weekend (OW) - 102.3

    This weekend - 35.9

    Drop - 64.9%

    China

    Last  weekend - 30.58

    This weekend - 4.78

    Drop - 84.37%

    Without China

    last weekend - 71.72

    this weekend - 31.12

    drop - 56.6%

I know that the numbers make it seem like a harsh drop but that China drop is making it look way worse than it actually is. For comparison Captain Marvel fell 61.88% with China and 57.21% without China on its 2nd weekend. So Shazam had a slightly better OS-Ch drop. Of course Captain Marvel had a huge rush to see it plus it is much harder to hold better with much higher numbers. But regardless outside of China and South Korea the drop for Shazam is normal.

Captain Marvel is heading for around 700m OS which would be about 2.31 multi from its opening OS weekend. Same legs as that would give Shazam an OS of 235. Assuming around 150m domestic would lead to a final total of 385m Worldwide. But Shazam will have to face Endgame the week after where it could drop upto 60-70%.

Overall I see around 230m OS (including Japan) for a final.

Very good breakdown @ZeeSoh yeah its doing good minus China.

Shazam with the biggest bump in top 10

  9. 4 minutes ago, Matthew said:

Wow. Shazam came below Deadline friday estimate of 6.6M

Captain Marvel came above deadline estimate of 2M

Captain Marvel will earn 8M+ this weekend.

Shazam will earn 23M+ this weekend.

Deadline is underestimating its saturday bump. This movie plays like a family movie. It will get over $25 million.
