If the plan is to do a whole cinematic universe, do you want a Detective Pikachu movie focusing on (Mega) Raquaza? If it's going to be only Detective Pikachu, sure do whatever you want. But you don't want DP taking all the legendary Pokemon and leaving spin-off titles with nothing. Especially if they decide to do a more....traditional...Pokemon adventure movie.

To be honest I was considering those more as a finishing (a la Thanos) threat, with Mew as the protagonist in the sequel (the Loki? Ultron?)

I liked it, it does make me think what they plan on doing for the sequel which is already being written by 21 jump street writer. Ryan Reynolds is definitely attached, they even talk about all the adventures he can have. I feel like they'll have Mewtwo reappear and say Ryan has to go into Pikachu again for another adventure and BAM Detective Pikachu 2.

Whom do you think will be the big focus of the sequel? I would say the 3 legendary birds and maybe Mew.

If they leave him in Pikachu's body then we'd have a deal...

There are many, many ways they may go from here. Appealing to the nostalgia, maybe Ho-oh or Mew. Obviously everyone knows that the most powerful Pokemon is actually (Mega) Rayquaza, it would be cool to see the been three trio involved in something.

  3. I'm wondering how the ending is going to affect rewatchability for the GA, I felt my whole theater go WTF at it. I feel it changes the nature of their relationship and cheapens it from the premise, even though it was obviously the direction they were going from the beginning. I'll post again my feelings after a rewatch.

Previews for Detective Pikachu looking solid, nothing astonishing though. I do wonder why Warner decided to do them at 10:00 PM rather than 9:00 like other films that held previews.

Expecting $4M-$5M from previews. That would bode well for a $100M+ opening.

My Detective Pikachu 10 pm wasn't as full as I expected, several empty seats in good places. For some reason several people (me included) entered the theater a bit late. The audience totally ate it up though, great reactions in the first half and more subdued inn the second.

Even though Spoilers are allowed, still beware.

    SPOILER ALERT!

The movie was some light fun in a warm and welcoming world, with some likeable characters.

But could somebody please help me out with one major plot point.

So why exactly did Mewtwo feel the need to transfer Harry into Pikachu?
It turned out, that his body was fine in the end, so why wouldn't he just heal Harry, like he healed Pikachu?

    Did I miss something?

He said he needed the son, I assumed some genetic shenanigans were in place.

I loved the movie, only disliked the ending. But then I'm a lifelong Pokemon fan...

Anything over $70M is a win.

What is tickling me is that maybe, just maybe don't beat Coco in admissions or just passes it by a very little difference. Ticket price is just too high and I thought would stabilize this weekend but it isn't. Gives you an idea of how massive Coco was and if this doesn't beat it then I think Miguel will hold the crown for about the same time Titanic held it (10+ years)

I am actually in Mazatlan for a congress, and decided to watch it again. The theater was almost empty at a 14.40 show, definitely not what I expected. So yeah, Coco will keep the admissions crown.

What do you think is more phenomenal in Mexico? EG or Coco?

I still think that endgame has more of a generational impact, it's doubtful that people older than 60 will be talking about this one as Coco. Nevertheless on those younger than 40 (50?) there isn't one soul that hasn't seen it (or has plans to see it if they haven't been able to so far). Since people in that age range are more liable to going to the movies/rewatching this will rack all the dough.

May Russo Bros bless @redgarlic who's attending a 3:50 AM show. At least is in the best IMAX of the city.

It was totally worth it! The concessions were full at 3.30, tons of teenagers and young adults were taking group selfies and there parents with young kids (even one wearing Marvel pajamas). It took me like ten minutes to enter, and there were still people coming in at the beginning of the movie. The reactions were a bit subdued in my opinion, with the exception of appropriate laughs and several cheers (and a really huge one). I loved the movie, hearing the post movie conversations I'm sure it will make 💵💶💴💷

AVENGERS: ENDGAME. TRACKING REPORT. CINEPOLIS’ MIDNGHTS. 8 DAYS BEFORE RELEASE.

    • 2099 screens (29.09% of total number of screens in the country)
    • 12 highest grossing cities (55.48% share of entire gross in the country)
    • Cinépolis. Main chain of the country (67.1% of market share)
    1.  Outpacing Infinity War’s last update (1.5 days before midnights) by 30.89% when 12 vs 10 cities. 21.66% when comparing same 10 cities.
    2.  93.85% of total screens are running a midnight show, the increase week-to-week was minimal, so yes, this is getting close to its peak.
    3.  Every city is playing it in at least 80% of their total screens, Juárez and Veracruz are both working with all their screens (and basically all of them are sellouts). Mexico City and Metro Area is at 96% with seats available only in shows that were recently added at west.
    4.  So far there are 76 shows running between 3:30-5:00 hours and 8 theatres (+3 from last week) across the country running around the clock.

CINEMEX MIDNIGHTS. 15 DAYS BEFORE RELEASE

    • 1683 screens (23.37% of total number of screens in the country)
    • 12 highest grossing cities (55.48% share of entire gross in the country)
    • Cinemex. Second biggest chain of the country (29.5% of market share)

    Gi28jy7.png

    1. Sellouts are nearly 90% over IW’s 1.5 days before midnights. 82.12% when removing Juarez and León (cities that weren’t in last year’s sample).
    2. Good luck trying to find a seat, so far almost 97% of entire shows are sold-out.
    3. Total number of screenings is +39.22% over Infinity War last number.
    4. There are now 82 shows playing from 3:30 to 4:00 hours. 23 of them are already sold-out. 6 theatres (+3 from last week) are running around the clock.

I bought ticket to the 3.50 show at IMAX Perisur today 😁

6/11 highest grossing locations in the country have booked 4:00-5:00 AM shows for opening day. Two of them are basically running around the clock the entire first day: Universidad (CDMX) and Paseo Acoxpa (CDMX). A few other theatres across Mexico City are also running around the clock. Tracking tomorrow.

Man, this makes me rue the moment I decided a 10 am show was ok... I deserve it for my lack of patience tho :whosad:

I think what makes the difference is that Coco was a cultural phenomenon that drew even small communities. While Marvel movies do fine at 1st, 2nd and 3rd tier cities it doesn't has that cultural element that Coco had and appealed to people that rarely goes to movies or people that never had gone to a movie theatre before.

I agree with this, but also with Coco it was a movie where people watched it once and then came back to the theater with their grandmas so they could enjoy it as well. Even though I saw quite a share of grandmas today at the Shazam! IMAX I doubt they will come out in droves for endgame as they did for Coco.

(I mean grandmas as in all of the family no exceptions)

    BOT: WWW?

Considering the reactions here to Age of Ultron, that's to be expected.

They'll do both. I think Black Adam has huge potential because he's an interesting character in his own right and I think by building up to the showdown between Shazam and Black Adam, they're saving the best until last.

As I said on one of Gitesh tweets (sorry for embed, couldn't copy)

A Cinépolis located in east Metro Area of Mexico City (8th highest grosser in the country) is booking 4:00 AM shows :ohmygod:

EDIT. Cinépolis Angelópolis in Puebla (7th highest grosser complex) is booking shows at 3:30-4:00 too!

A bit unrelated, but what theaters are the highest grossing? I usually go to Perisur, and never been to Universidad.
