In Mendelson weekend estimates reaction for the holdovers he has some strange numbers, or maybe better said wordings flying around for CM

    Titled:

'Captain Marvel' Is Soaring Past $300M Domestic And $850M Worldwide (Box Office) (I guess ww for Friday)

hmmm I guess he means ww total of.... including Sunday

So, is it written sloppy or is my English to bad ans I miss here something?

It did 11 million dollars overseas on Friday, 845 million. Chances are it might not get to 900 million by Sunday.

omg  A TV SPOT WOULDNT HELP cant you think ?

The 2nd trailer did help Captain Marvel to trend on social media when it came out, boosting the public's awareness on the character. A part of the film's success is based on the association with Endgame so the more the PR brings her up, the more interest it builds. So it does help. Many who went to see the film went because they think she is going to defeat Thanos so they want to know who she is.

lol wth? I'd figure they project 25.

40 would be insane. US is going to be #1 for weekend and do really well.

25 would be more insane. Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol.2 did 34 million in its 3rd Weekend. I'd say 36 million makes more sense. 40 would be great.

I definitely think that Rose is a bigger lead than Rey and that Elizabeth Swann in POTC trilogy is a bigger lead than Rey. But Rose is a total lead. Shared top billing or not, Titanic is a female-centric movie through and through.

Titanic is essentially Rose's story. Even though Kate Winslet got second billing, the story is told from Rose's perspective and there's a long stretch where Jack is mostly off-screen as Rose is trying to find his whereabouts.

You could also say the same about Elizabeth even though in Dead Man's Chest, she was given the least to do out of the three leads.

Yeah, can't say I really care about "2nd best in March." I'm interested in how well it's holding and where it will end up, and 67 vs 72 has a pretty fair impact of those.

It was obviously going to have the 2nd best 2nd March Weekend once we had the OW number, so that really doesn't provide much useful info as to how well the weekend is going.

True however Captain Marvel has been unexpected in its performance. It suffered a steep drop on Wednesday yet increased on Thursday. Also don't forget Spring Break which will keep the film performing solidly on week days. Either way 300 million for next week is locked.

When I said I wanted numbers, I didn't mean these numbers :whosad:

Low Saturday bump for MCU, but I guess it's a combination of partial school break and some trailer effect on Friday that's now fully faded. Still on track for a high 60s weekend, quite typical mid 50s drop.

You are aware even if Captain Marvel ends up with 67-68 million for the weekend it still is the second best second weekend for a March release? Low or high bump, by the end of the week, Captain Marvel is still winning. 2 or 3 million less dollars won't make a difference.

    Impressive number for CM.

Hopefully the Friday increase isn't conversely muted.

At worst, even if it does fifteen million dollars, it is locked for the 300 million dollar mark. For example, Suicide Squad and Spider Man: Homecoming had steep drops in their 2nd weekends yet were able to have enough legs to withstand the drop and ended up being major successes.

  8. Is 19 million locked and if yes, can it increase?

For comparisons's sake, The Hunger Games did 18 million on its second Friday (went on to do 58 million for the weekend) whereas Guardians of the Galaxy did 16 million and went on to do 65 million for the weekend so it is dependent on what kind of increase it will have on Saturday. If 19 million ends up being the final number for Captain Marvel, I expect 60-70 million.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol.2 did 7.5 million in its first Wednesday. Thor: Ragnarok did 6.2 in its first Wednesday. Even if those numbers turned out to be correct, it still is a solid number for Wednesday.

  10. It's slightly more than Doctor Strange (-15%). I am curious to know if the weekend runs counter to week days because the Saturday to Sunday drop was fairly solid.

Yikes. That's kinda huge drop. I just hope it can still cross $40M.

I think it can. Black Panther had a 81% drop on its second weekend and still managed to cross over the 40 million mark. I think 40 million is safe. Also, no competition and trailer of Endgame about to arrive next week.

    Monday Final

    170,493(-79.9%) 1,914 screen

    total 3,206,607

    17:20 48k

    18:20 52k (-20%)

Week Days tend to experience huge drops especially on week days in a March release. This drop just seems bigger than expected because of the big numbers Captain Marvel did in the Weekend.
