I thought only Avatar fans were the ones bringing up Avatar here lol. Oh well, I'll bite. Avatar was one movie and didn't have 22 movies backing it as a finale. Plus the China expansion is the only thing that got it where it was. If Avatar has a re release which it'll happen, say bye bye to the record MCU fans went out for 10 times. Endgames upcoming record will be the most manufactured in history. Feige and stars of the movie had to campaign for it lol. Endgame was corporate fanfare, Avatar was art but proceed to say it was only 3D despite there being dozens of 3D movies out at the time lol.

What have you cooked up for your celebratory thread on ERA
1 hour ago, Doctor Stark said:I feel like Disney would be obligated to push it over $2.8 billion if it got that close. The plot twist is that they do a Labor Day expansion not for Avatar, but for $2.8 billion.
Why would Disney do a Labor Day expansion for Avatar when the sequel is still 2.5 years away?
Edit: I am stupid, I thought you were talking about them re-releasing Avatar on Labor Day.

Cut the Avatar fans some slack, they need to be kept busy as the only significant updates they get in the Avatar thread is that the sequel has been delayed again

Forbes 'contributors' have as much credibility as a random poster on BO subreddit, absolutely useless.

I can already hear the rage of Jimbo fanbois slamming on their keyboards of Disney fudging up the numbers.
I'm hoping EG does it because you can't get any BO discussion going on any forum without EG v Avatar dick measuring.

Overall numbers are not very good. Even though its a staggered re-release it'll be a slow crawl from here on.
I still think they should've taken their time and done a proper re-release with footage integrated to actual movie rather than something slapped together at the end. Reckon its gonna fall $8-10m short of the overall record.

Disney making full use of them contracts, save money on CGI and ask your A-listers to tweet about the record everyday.

Disney might as well just hand out as much free shit as possible to get people out to theatres.
Buy a ticket, get a Captain Marvel digital download!
I mean, at this point, with all the big players pushing it on twitter, it would be a bit embarrassing if they didn't get #1!
Also, why the July 30th digital release date? That's even earlier that Infinity War! It's going to cut it's late legs off.
I'm still pissed off at AMC Lincoln Square (one of the biggest in New York City) playing Avengers Endgame dirty by only having 2 shows a day for the weekend, while still playing 5 showtimes for Booksmart!! But at least Empire 25 has picked up some of the slack. They are giving it the full 5 showtimes.I'd like to think Disney know what they are doing, even though this entire thing stinks of something slapped up together in last moment they must have good reasons to re-release it now with bunch of non-consequential stuff than a proper re-release few months down the line with good chunk of polished footage. Mouse doesn't lose often so one way or the other they'll take that record, question is how long it'll take?
On a side note, Endgame is getting a digital release only a day earlier than IW which released on 31st July.

RDJ telling it straight up, new stuff in quotation mark sums up what I feel about this. Such half-baked effort from Disney!

This looks so much like something Disney put up together last minute. The unfinished CGI scene is dead giveaway.
Also, people are kidding themselves if they think all of this is just to 'boost' FFH. Proceeds of that movie will go to Sony anyway. They're aiming for all time WW but doing it in a half-arsed manner is weird.

A lot of hot air and nothing more. EG even without a re-release was heading towards 2.760-2.765. This is going to add ~$10m on top of that but still fall below the all time record.
What EG will have is the all time #1 WW record in a single run. Overall WW ain't happening.

it will finish without push around 2768-2773 , so it will be easier but yeah i agree 20 mil isnt too much to push
Did you get that figure by extrapolating how IW fared from this point onwards?
If so, with a marketing push they could get by Avatar but I'm not sure about the predicted number without any push. Could you elaborate?

Thanos says it in EG. The poster used it in a context which is funny.

Feige and Disney, shameless, unbelievable.
They want the record, especially as its within sights. I don't see it as a total lock either which will fetch them their goal but it warrants a try.
I'm just little puzzled that they didn't wait for EG to surpass initial Avatar run before doing their extended/re-release.
8 minutes ago, Avatree said:If they can fudge it there just with US re-release why would they spend money on releasing it elsewhere?
Avatar did actually make something like 30M iirc from its re-release. Endgame is incredibly unlikely as its not really a re-release since the films still in wide release, plus its not a different film just some different credits supposedly. I doubt very much it would be worth it in other markets, they only need to do it in america. it would not be beneficial but its somewhat expensive to distribute a film worldwide.
They are only re-releasing because they want the all time #1 WW crown, that's it. Even Disney knows its inevitable that if EG were to surpass Avatar, Avatar will take it back with a re-release down the line. But EG will forever be locked as movie which was #1WW even if it was for a limited time.

Who here is mocking it? Of course ignoring the obvious trolls and the loud fanboys who would do that anyway regardless of how much it made. No one who's actually following box office can mock Endgame with a straight face. Mock it for what, becoming only the second film ever to cross $2.7 billion worldwide in 40 days (38 domestic)?
This post wasn't aimed at you, I was browsing the thread after update came through and there are many people who are happy about it falling short of the record, while others are genuinely sad that it isn't gonna do it. I see the same doom and gloom and Reddit too, people are disappointed in its run.Like you said, I can't understand it myself. This movie requires you to invest a lot of time in this universe or it won't make any sense to you. The fact they got so close is an achievement in itself.

EG run is an anomaly, just like Avatar was. Both went about their business in a different manner but were impressive in their own right. A movie which opens at $357m dom and $1.2B WW is uncharted territory so I can understand why many overpredicted when hype was at its peak.
When its all said and done, even if it doesn't take the highest grossing in a single run record, it shall still be an outstanding performance. Keep in mind, this isn't a movie which will have many walk-ups due to connectivity with previous MCU films. The fact that an inter-connected movie which requires investment with several franchises has gotten so close should be celebrated instead of being mocked at.
