Sonic's popularity is mainly nostalgic, Mario is ever present and waaaaay bigger.
It isn't just nostalgia at all. A large portion of Sonic's fanbase some people ignore (but is a MAJOR factor) is the mobile fanbase. Tens of millions of people playing Sonic games on mobile for free. Mario doesn't have many mobile offerings, and the ones that it does have aren't as big as some of the Sonic mobile games. Sonic Dash, for example, was downloaded half a billion times. Think about how massive that is.
Sonic Dash Hits 500 million downloads
Mario has him beat when it comes to console-based video games, but in terms of pervasiveness and reach, free mobile apps will do a lot for you. Kids might not be playing Sonic at home on a console, but they sure as hell are seeing him in the app store.

Tangled the Series made it work. Ready As I'll Ever Be is such an AWESOME Disney song.
Preach. A Frozen series has great potential (assuming they can somehow bring back the main cast). Rapunzel's Tangled Adventures has some songs even better than the movie songs.

Surprised how many views it has after less than a day of being uploaded. Edging close to 3 million already.

Well, TJB is below 1B. And Aladdin is already above 1B. So... prettttttty decent, yeah.
Haha my bad. I meant Alice in Wonderland. Don't know how those wires got crossed.

Are the chances of this passing TJB WW relatively decent by the end of its run?

Wow apparently the original song 'Desert Moon' that was cut from the movie will be included in the deleted scenes. Definitely an incentive to pick this up for me.

Frozen 2 > The Lion King is happening.
As it should be -
So basically Aladdin is guaranteed to hit a billion now.

i wonder if this is going to get a sequel
Oh that's not even a question. With how massive this movie managed to be in spite of a rather mixed early reception, a sequel is only a matter of time. This movie will easily pass TJB and that movie has a sequel in the works.

I've seen it 10+ times already, lost count long ago. Still keep watching it, because they will keep it in cinemas like forever.
Best feel good movie to tap your toes to, ever!
Finally the dumb Hollywood decided to make a Bollywood influenced movie (this), an Arabian fantasy movie (this, after Prince of Persia), and a Chinese period movie (Mulan 2020).
The Shay has been yelling to them to do so for DECADES!! Practically slapped them in their face with the billions they could make this way! Nada. The dumb amateurs kept making their USA-centric filler - and would have kept on doing so till their bankruptcy! Fortune sometimes favours the dumb though, so a couple of their preexisting big properties (the 90ies classic animations) happened to be in diverse period settings. That was the only reason and the only way for these idiots to make something bold and good.
Hopefully, now that not only the Shay prophet, but also they themselves have seen the said billions - they will keep on making Bollywood, Arabian, Chinese and Japanese* based big blockbusters.
* But NO Godzilla! Never!! MANGA - big yes!! Godzilla - big NO!! That is some fucked up brony shit no serious person would watch.
10+ Jesus. And I thought my four viewings was on the upper end.

It's been said a lot but if TS4 hits a billion it really puts it in perspective how insane this year is for Disney, literally all of their big guns going in a single year, Avengers, Star Wars, Lion King, Toy Story, Frozen, etc. not to mention Captain Marvel and Aladdin breaking out.
Dumbo will probably bankrupt them though, RIP.
Seriously. The potential for 7 billion sellers from a single distributor in a single year is insane. This has to be a new record, right?

Aladdin >>> Episode 9 >>>> The Lion King >>>>>>> Frozen 2 >>>>>>>>>>> Maleficent 2 >>>>>>>>> Ad Astra >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Spiderman 7 >>>>>>>> Avengers 4 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dark Phoenix >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dumbo >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Captain Marvel >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Toy Story 18
They start getting bad from Spiderman downwards...
This man really put Dark Phoenix ahead of TS lol

But no, I really do agree with the notion that Aladdin beats out TS4, even if just by a tad. Endgame was a fantastic movie, but having seen it three times now, it's much less appealing upon additional viewings. The three hours fly by in the first viewing, but drag on in subsequent screenings. Aladdin and TS4 are both movies I can (and have) watch several times over and not feel remotely grating.
Aladdin>TS4>Endgame>CM for me

Oh we noticed 😏

I hope this movie has good WOM. I'd probably rank it below the first trilogy, but it was still a fantastic movie through and through.

Wonder what are the chances of Aladdin outperforming TS4 WW. Hopefully TS4 has some thick legs but it seems a lot closer than people predicted months ago.

That's true, but it seems like this one is dropping off even faster than the first movie. I think that's more what's boggling here. Sonic 1's box office was 320M WW despite being cut off by COVID and lockdown in most of the world. This movie should pass that quite easily, but seemingly not by much.
