Coates is not a prestigious name for moviegoers and he's not gonna be able to make superman some cultural event that Black Panther was and if the rumored take about him wanting to do a more grounded superman is true then DC should definitely consider other options

I mean hopefully Zaslav opened up Superman to any one who wants to pitch and not let Abrams hoard it like the previous regime has let him do it, let people compete and pick the best pitch

The days of a traditional movie star are over, its all just IPs and interchangeable parts now. Not to mention I think its damn near impossible for any young actor/actress to have true 4 quad fame/fandom these days, the world is way too fractured with all the entertainment options and celebrities in general don't fascinate people the way they used to

Deadline predicted 15-20 on Friday and it went for 23.
Its quite possible, usually early saturday estimates are a bit conservative but nothing too far off, i could definitely see Nope pulling 47-48m but if early WOM is mixedish then maybe it doesn't hold quite as well either

If Nope follows the same Sat-Sun holds as Black Phone it comes out to 45.04m and thats a film you'd expect to be a little less frontloaded cause Derrickson doesn't have the draw of Peele so 44.5 is quite reasonable imo

I feel like the D+ argument would hold more weight if the legs started falling off a cliff in weeks 5,6 7 after having really good early legs when in actuality DS2 and Thor collapsed from the 2nd weekend due to mixed/poor WOM and the former actually had decent late legs before D+

Man of Steel did better relative to its production budget than Batman Begins did and it also had the stink of Superman returns to deal with like the BB did with B&R, BvS and JL failed cause Snyder/the scrip were just ass and WB greedily wanting to do event films like marvel without proper buildup like marvel.
The simple solution would just be to get some new director in their (McQuarrie who actually pitched or maybe Vaughn/Kosinski) and let them reboot the character with Cavill like Taika did with Hemsworth
