How is August 2023 looking like in terms of releases? I feel like this should be moved up to either August 4 or August 11 just to utilize a couple of weeks' additional holidays. And I can see this coexisting with Barbie (which will be in its 3rd week in August anyway), so that shouldn't be a major issue.
Pretty... weak.
Looks like this for now:
AUGUST 2023
August 4 (Friday)
- Meg 2: The Trench
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Next ChapterAugust 18 (Friday)
- Blue Beetle
There's a untitled Disney Live-action in August 18th. Could be just a placeholder but rumor is that Disney will announce in D23 as a surprise that the Lion King prequel will land there. Just a rumor. But from a pretty reliable source tho. (DisInsider)

Hercules is also a movie nowhere near entering production (there isn't even a director yet). Whenever we get concrete movie news, it shows up in the trades (Hollywood Reporter, Variety, etc.).
But Hercules doesn't need to enter production until 2023 for that July 2024 date

Top Gun still the cannes movie with the highest average score on Rotten Tomatoes
Up to broker to knoch it down to 2
Is there any reason why it wasn't in competition?
But 4th place or 5th on Metacritic

Then why not make it a Black Cat movie. No fan of the Black Cat....just too obvious a Catwoman clone...but she is much better known then Madame Web.
But this is going meet the fate of Morbius..or maybe even worse.
Black Cat is actually quite popular.
I think if there was plans... they would make one already. Because they wanna rush one for a quick grab. I wouldn't be surprised if there's plans for her in the MCU

December 2023 is still a wildcard at this point. It doesn’t seem likely that Disney will have a Star Wars movie ready for that date, and I have my doubts that Star Trek 4 will make it either.
We will know that tomorrow. The LucasFilm studio panel is tomorrow.
I still think we will get a Star Wars movie in December 2023

They currently have a spot claimed for July 2024, which I have been assuming is for this. They won't want to move away from the spot where the first did well (especially given the warm weather setting).
Could be for Hercules to.
Again... we just don't know. The Skyler guy seemed pretty confident that they will announce Lion King for 2023.

There's been no news on production for that officially commencing so that's 2024 at the earliest. Between the four Marvel movies, Indiana Jones, The Little Mermaid, The Haunted Mansion, and new movies from both their animation houses, their 2023 is looking packed enough as it is.
I think there's space

DisInsider (Skyler Schuler is his name, I believe) is pretty reliable.Yeah Skyler exactly.
Also. Don't know if it will announced at D23 but they also said that a new Fantasia movie is on the works, a Captain Carter series and that the Encanto franchise won't continue in series nor shorts... they are going for a new movie.

Source?
I heard from the DisInsider guys. I don't know much about their reliability but they seem reliable and credible.
They also said Disney will announce in D23 Maleficient 3 and Hercules for 2024. They also said they will announce a new Disney Animation movie for 2024 from that African group talent that is making a Disney Plus series that was announced in Disney Investor's Day in 2020
-
It doesn't seem like Snow White will get released in that August 2023 date and instead 2024 because... it seems like they will surprise announce in D23 the Lion King prequel for that August 2023 date.

Less than $700M is disappointing.
How is 700M happening? Really don't see it.

Trailer looks fine.
This kinda tanking on Twitter tho.

I, again, would really like to know what in god name is Disney doing with Searchlight theatrically. Not freaking hulu.

The thrid FB film will barely break even best case scenario compared to the cash cows the Potter films were. The five film franchise plan is dead.
True, but it's not like Warners has no leverage. And Rowling is not stupid, she won't turn away the money that will come from a Series.
It won't break even

The trailer is not bad. And the footage is awesome. But the music sounds really off.
I'm a big music trailer guy and that shit was awful. It just didn't fit imo.
Irrelevant but just something I noticed and felt.

Teaser tomorrow maybe?
Like Avatar in Doctor Strange

Encanto update: Still feel that What Else Can I Do is the banger and deserved the breakout, but I have listened to Bruno more than I expected and do sort of understand how it became the main earworm

It did seem like a certain billion dollar movie before reviews.
Funny that the MCU Disney movies are kinda ruining the billion average.
Was really hoping for all 1B this year after the almost 2B advance by NWH.

Is Dr Strange reaching 800M this weekend?

thursday to thursday drop is just 52%. It should hold better than that this weekend. Sunday drop should be better than last week due to canadian holiday.
What kind of weekend drop you're expecting?

No news on Star Wars movies. God. So disappointing.
AM I really going to only have Star Wars content in my shitty couch until 2025?
