Significantly better trailer. Looks like it could be really dumb fun as a road trip movie, just hope they don’t do any multiverse cameo tedium. Weird to see an MCU trailer that doesn’t put me to sleep after the last few misses, but I could see this one being… good?

I feel like they turned the multiverse shenanigans down here. Its actually a surprisingly intimate trailer in that its really just highlighting a few character sequences and not much more.

What I like most is clearly Hugh is playing a very different Wolverine and isn't afraid to do that.

Am not as blown away as some people seem to be by the trailer. I think it does a poor job selling the comedy which is my big worry for this sequel; and it looks to have the Ant Man problem of cutting out the regular cast (though I imagine they are back for the final act - or least I hope).

DP2 trailer had more swagger and I think the X Force stuff was more exciting personally that just 'oh Wolverines here'.

Still excited though, just wary but I think that's how a lot of the audience will feel until the reviews start feeding in.

I'm not even sure if you can call wanting to see Batman fighting the Joker is even a "crossover" especially since Batman was set up in the first film lol

It’s clearly two separate Batmen though. I am not gainer having Batman in these films but not a version already on screen with a pre built story which doesn’t fit.

Batman in the joker films should literally be a fucked up Bruce literally running around in Hokey gear who is basically absolutely unhinged.

This...isn't unprecedented. Star Wars Infinities was basically exactly that idea.

Plus if they wanted classic characters back that'd be an easier way to do them for sure.

It makes sense. The original cartoons draws were the characters. Star Wars TV is slowly becoming a live action Big Finish and that’s fine by me.

I personally would be interested in What If being a brand for different series though. Like, I don’t care for one offs - give me a limited series.

Bullshit tbh considering Pixar’s whole struggle to be successful in recent years has been stupid execs devaluing the brand and greenlighting crap like Lightyear. They could probably have great box office clout rn with the push WDAS got for movies like Luca and Turning Red.

I disagree. People complain about high budgets them bemoan layoffs. Pixar is too expensive and need to outsource more of their work. Or die.

Also amazing to see some online still blame Chapek for this.

  5. It looks mid tier to me but that’s no bad thing. Disney made a mistake running away with their toys from the Netflix shows/model - the initial idea of a grounded group made more sense that these crossovers constantly.

And I think Disney have shown their not incapable of bad writing either.

I don't see why Echo is a sign that Marvel shouldn't do R rated stuff for some reason. It's not like people were saying "The Marvels is proof they can't make PG-13 movies anymore". The bigger flaw Echo has is that they consolidated from six episodes to five (my guess is the big changes were made to the first and final ones), but that wouldn't change if it were or weren't violent.

We’ll have to see how it performs in the ratings. I am expecting another drop but honestly the big question is when Marvel find their level and can start growing again rather than having a break out hit (though that can happen) - so I think they need a period of consistently and cross overs within the shows and less focus of jumping to film as with The Marvels.

So Aquaman 2 is not huge bomb anymore?

WBs have honestly shown themselves to be very canny. I know it's not popular with movie buffs but Zaslav has made some very good decisions around costs.

Aquaman I'd probably going to break even or a small loss due to his marketing decision. And I don't buy into the people claiming it would have made even more if he had marketed it more. I think the dollar spend on marketing would always be higher than the dollar of revenue it generated.

Been less than a week and nobody is talking about Kang/Majors. Shows how little

    of an impact he made

Can’t remember if it was here or Reddit I raised this but after he got (over hyped) responses to his performance in Ant Man (he was legit good in Loki 1 though) his Loki 2 performance went unmentioned. Mostly because it was absolutely fucking awful and the worse thing an actor can do - utterly annoying. No one cares about him.

  8. I think there are just a lot of ‘fan’ (content shovelers) making things up based on faint rumours/fan speculation.

Though I could see an exec looking at the demographics and saying “we need more kids watching! Where are all the kids!?” And thinking kids want to watch kids.

Young Avengers is crippled in this format anyway. They will all be adults in the universe before they even build them across multiple films to have a single Young Avengers film.

The other issue is as far as I can tell there are no young men for these young avengers so far? I think it’s more likely that over time there have just been characters with children being introduced and growing up so people have created this in their heads.

Kamala was not introduced for YA but for X Men ultimately it seems.

  9. I don’t think you can be overly upset about the media jumping on the MCU negativity bandwagon. They jumped on the positivity bandwagon and were part of it seizing the zeitgeist.

Feels like Secret Wars might be getting pushed back if X-Men is getting brought forward. Avengers being a group of team ups (New Guardians/X-Men/Fantastic Four) plus maybe Spidey and other New York heroes as the basis of the New Avengers would work very well.

Like with Infinity War you can have them battling it out in different locations (probably with X-Men mixed within them) - which allows you to have a big cast but not feel too ‘full’.

  10. I’d actually prefer they used this to go a more fun route with Kang. Get someone like Adrian Lester who can handle the comedy and tone down the action stuff. The conqueror is dead so there’s no reason we need another punchy Kang variant.

Go all in on the recasting. Have lots of Kangs - connected more by their nature/actions than something as dull as their appearance.

  11. WWZ had Brad Pitt, brilliant marketing and a fantastic reshot third act to leave viewers with. It’s original book was majestictic.

problem with Captain America is it’s got a concept issue. WWZ didn’t have that, it burnt its concept and wasted it but that’s another story.

This is clearly a massive reworking. I still say merge it with Thunderbolts. If their not merging the two films then they are burning hundreds of millions.

Disney can’t take those losses over two years without clear other big wins.

Why wouldn't it last? That's one of its biggest draws.

.....why on earth would they change the name? Especially several years in?

I think it’s limiting to its appeal. If they are merging the services they either should reduce the content/spend on the other service or ensure the brand pulls in that wide base of viewers.

  13. Worth pointing out there is now Hulu internationally. It’s all on D+.

Disney are just struggling to market it due to their brand. They have it all under ‘Stars’ (will all Fox stuff) - it’s kind of bizzare. You go Marvel, Star Trek, Pixar and then ‘Stars’.

I personally think the Disney brand won’t last but that’s just me. (Edit as the platforms name).

  14. Finally watched Ant Man. I didn't think it was that bad but there were some easy (and obvious) changes to be made.

Have a connection to the outside so previous Ant Man alumni are present and grounding the thing. They have ear pieces - this should be EASY.

Keep the OG ending. Scott being trapped behind makes much more sense and I think this is a good example of a studio over meddling. I wouldn't even kill Kang, I would have him trapped with Kang and have that the cliffhanger. The actual ending is awful and Scott's thoughts out loud are just terrible story telling, basically he tells you the whole film because they had no confidence in it.

DUMP THE REBELS. They have no character and are just Rick and Morty nonsense which is fine a week for 20 mins but no 2 hours+. Just bring the ants in earlier. It's not fucking difficult.

Done. Sorted. Pre production decisions remain Marvels biggest issue. MODOK doesn't need cut he just needs proper discussion of how he looks and TESTING IN PRE PRODUCTION.

Not sure what Majors thought would happen here. Even if he's not found guilty of the incident he's on trial for, we now know he was violent with her before. What's his defense going to be after this, even if found innocent? "I didn't beat her up...that time".

The thing is this wasn’t admissible in court until his lawyers started asking her around it so the judge allowed it to be submitted. Majors from the start has been an arrogant fuck relying on the tool he’s obviously always relied on - being a bully.
