Just got back from seeing Man of Steel, had a pretty great time. Some problems, but probably the best superhero movie I've seen since The Dark Knight.

-
Father's Day Bump! There were three sold out matinee shows at the theater near me.
-
Got back from the movie tonight, we quite enjoyed it. How the heck is this movie rated worse than Superman Returns on rottentomatoes? MOS was about a trillion times more entertaining than that piece of crap!
This should be quite a crowd-pleaser with good WOM.
Superman Returns was more of a tribute to the original Superman movies which older critics loved, but this one was a more modern Superman and tried something a little different. Considering how important and influential the first two are, the fact that this took a different route, 57% on RT isn't too bad.
-
Saw Gatsby tonight, I was pleasantly surprised. Five FF6 shows were sold out by 1030 when I got there. Gatsby, StiD, and TH3 all had two sold out shows, IM3 had one.
-
He meant those numbers as early, premature numbers reported just base on matinees. IM3 went up from 58M to like 68M, TGG went up too, while STiD went down big.
My bad.
Peeples>>.Big wedding.
If Peeples reaches 10M it achieves honorary blockbuster status
-
Yoh dog..
We know nothing.
Im3 had a 58 million opening day. Gatsby was around 14 million and ST was 25 million.
Gatsby opening day was 19

Epic deserves to be in the thread title. It's a player this weekend for sure.
I think people really underestimated Epic, it's in a fantastic slot. The last computer animated kids movie was The Croods 2 months ago, FF6 and TH3 don't target family audiences. It's only real competition for families is IM3 which came out 3 weeks ago. There isn't another animated kids movie until Monsters University in a month. All Fox had to do was give a the regular old marketing push and it's doing fine.

I'm sure it will increase.
West Coast will surely deliver
-
FF6 fans rejoice, a locally owned theater near me isn't even showing Hangover 3 this weekend

So I bought 50% of The Purge in the May thread, I'd like to buy another 50% now
-
No one knew who Iron Man was until 2008...
Yeah, also his comic sells like shit in comparison to how many people see the Iron Man movies.
Batman has five solo books and they all sell above Iron Man's only solo book
In April
Batman #19 - 132K
Batman and Robin #19 - 89K
Detective Comics #19 - 78K
Batman, Incorporated #10 - 56K
Batman: The Dark Knight #19 - 53K
Iron Man #8 - 44K (With Variant Covers)
It should get a boost in May because of IM3 but seriously Iron Man has never been near as recognizable or bankable as Batman, IM1 was a huge risk
-
I mentioned this in the weekend predictions thread, but I counted up the Saturday showtimes for the 3 big theaters around me, and I got:
Hangover 3 - 53
Fast & Furious 6 - 37
Epic - 34 (19/15)
STID - 51 (36/15)
IM3 - 19 (15/4)
Great Gatsby - 17 (12/5)
42 - 1
(2D/3D split)
25 STiD (12/13)
23 TH3
20 FF6
20 Epic (10/10)
12 TGG (6/6)
12 IM3 (6/6)
1 P&G
1 42
1 Croods
The two biggest theaters near me. Star Trek is somehow getting the most showtimes I don't know why -
I'm asking you nicely to start and do the math right now... Day by day, weekend by weekend, add together then add to the amount it has grossed right now, and then I will ask you to tell me that it's passing 400M.
It's going to be close, but I'm pretty sure Disney will make sure that it gets over 400M

List of movies where Leo doesn't die :
.
I know Growing Pains is a TV show not a movie, but I'm pretty sure he didn't die in that
-
That is certainly their best effort.
How to Train Your Dragon, Kung-Fu Panda, Chicken Run, and Antz are the only movies in their catalog of 26 movies that I like.
I like those plus The Road to El Dorado, and the first two Shreks. It's weird, every time I watch Antz it gets funnier.
-
Yeah, but how many of all those Dreamworks movies are really good?
Pixar's overall quality is much better, but I think How To Train Your Dragon stands up to any Pixar movie, including Toy Story
-
I'm in the opposite boat. I think each trailer has gotten better.
I'll probably see it opening weekend, just at the $7 local-owned theater instead of the $11 Regal one.
-
They won't win the year but will still do well.

2015 will have two Pixar movies. You'd think with all their success it would've taken them less than 20 years to start releasing more than 1 film a year. Dreamworks has been doing it since 2004.
-
The Lone Ranger is coming. I don't know what to make of that movie, lol.
I loved the first trailer for The Lone Ranger. I was really excited. With each successive trailer I feel worse and worse about it.
-
That just made me realize Oz could very well beat STID at the box office.
Hell, The Croods still has a shot if STiD drops badly next weekend.
-
Uh, that's the movie that killed the franchise so it had to be rebooted. STID had a $200m budget, not including marketing. If it just barely passes 200 DOM, Paramount is likely looking at a loss or not much of a profit. This isn't an OS series to save it. If it's not profitable and Abrams doesn't want to make another one, Paramount could easily send the series into darkness. At least for another decade or so until a new reboot comes along.
I smell a CW TV series
