Ok, we still have plenty of Fall movies.
Well, sure. Obviously Guardians isn't gonna beat Hunger Games Part 17 or whatever but beating everything that came before it this year would still be insane (if it happens).

If Guardians of the freakin' Galaxy beats the opening weekends for Transformers, Captain America, Spider-man, Godzilla, X-Men, Apes, etc. (all basically established franchises with very well known characters) that will be TOTALLY INSANE.
Box office story of the year without a doubt and one of the biggest box office stories of the decade.
We will have soooooo many superhero and sci-fi team-up movies coming our way. Haha.

If this movie does 80 m OW, the trades will write about what a huge success it is and rightfully so.
This forum will be crying in its collective beer though. WHAT A FLOP! lol.

i give up. Marvel comics rules the world. What a disgrace that number is. Cannot believe that many people like to see this piece of crap looking movie
Umm, what about it looks so terrible to you?
-
lol fantastic number but people here just prove themselves to be superhero/Marvel fanboys with $100m OW.
If CA:TWS couldn't do it being a sequel and starring an already popular character from the Avengers, why would this go up to $118m? WTF?
People ignoring the time and day and month that it's opening? Wouldn't be the first time though.
Exactly. Cap 2 did 10 million on a Thursday night in early April! This did 11 million on a Thursday night in late July!
Apples and oranges.
-
Fantastic Number for "Guardians". 100 OW though? I don't know about that. August record is toast though.
Yep, August record is gonna get murdered. People are getting ahead of themselves with the rest of this talk though.

Anyone seriously thinking that 90 m OW is the floor is setting themselves up to be disappointed. Sorry.
Think of 75 m OW as the absolute floor and set yourselves up to hopefully be very pleasantly surprised.

Hate to point out the obvious but 100 m OW is anything but a lock. It's a lot easier to make $11 million from Thursday showings at the end of July than it is to make $10 million from Thursday showings in early freakin' April and Cap 2 still didn't make it to 100 m OW.
That said the number is incredible and I do think that a 80+ m OW is pretty much locked.

I will be annoyed if this thing just barely beats Cap 2's OW. It's gonna be so close.
-
An eight year break between movies would help too.So this is what it was like when Batman wore out its welcome. Spiderman isnt dead it just needs a resurgence like Nolan gave Batman.
-
Looks like this could be a pretty close showdown between Cap and Spidey in terms of the OW at least. Go Cap!
-
Solid number for Cap. Cool.

My theater cancelled all of its late shows because of the weather (Regal in upstate NY). My friend's theater did the same (Regal in north NJ.) This is not going to be a good day for The Hobbit 2: Electric Bugaloo or the box office in general.
-
So is this going to beat TDKR? I hope not.
-
The reviews didn't matter. Film opened to nearly $130m in 3.5 days.
Reviews probably have much more of an impact post-OW.

The truth is that MOS's WOM is kinda mixed. I've talked to many people who loved it, hated it or are somewhere in between. I haven't talked to many people who would put it up there with the Nolan-Batman movies or the best of the Marvel Studios movies though.

Let's get real, there was zero depth in MOS. You either loved it for the action or you didn't like it at all.
Haha, not sure if I'd go that far...
There are just so many problems with it. It's a frustrating film because there is quite a bit to admire in it as well. Hopefully the sequel will be a lot better. Keep the good and get rid of the bad, I say.

Lol Eraser has bizarre tastes or likes films without depth of MOS. . Thor and Captain were good, but no where on the level of MOS and the better DC and Marvels. Films. .
Captain about 7.6, Thor 7.8
I didn't see all that much depth in MOS. In fact, I'd say that's one of my many problems with it. The trailers made it look like a deeper film than it was.

I loved IM3 including the twist.
Many people did. Me, not so much. lol.

Captain America and Thor were roughly even for me.
If if makes you MOS people feel any better, I sure as hell liked it a lot better than Iron Man 3. Heh.
-
I for one thought Captain America was way better than MoS.
Most critics (and many regular people) would agree with you, so there's no reason to be embarrassed about holding that opinion.
Believe me, it would have been great if Man of Steel was better than it (I'm a huge Supes fan)... but it just wasn't... not for me anyway.
-
Are you really saying that the bland piece of shit that is captain America, is better than the action packed excellence that is man of steel? I don't even know what to say to you. You obviously need to rewatch MoS otherwise you are just in denial of its awesomeness.Begone.
Yeah, it's called a personal opinion. And I doubt watching it again will change my opinion but we'll see. Man of Steel had a lot of problems. For now, Captain America > Man of Steel for me.

Sorry, I lean towards DC generally, but I have to admit that both Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor were quite a bit better than Man of Steel. Man of Steel was pretty good. It should have been amazing though.

Seems like a solid Wednesday number to me.
I'm still wondering what this film would be doing if it was great (instead of just okay).

And so everyone is forced to come back down to Earth. The important thing to remember is that these are still incredible numbers.
