if Marvel made a movie about Coprophilia it'll open to 85 million OW with people comparing it to the Godfather
that's how much people are taken by this sup-bar brand..
my favorite poster here is Baumer because he just knows it all..and speaks the obvious truth no one wants to admit to themselves..Marvel movies are mediocre at best..

Just saw Turtles. Lots of fun, good humour, Fox was terrific and it's one of the best summer films I've seen this year.

I think EoT will have no problem crossing $200m.

Are Friday/Sat numbers still the same?
-23 from Sat would give Guardians a $13m.
Correct. Guardians came in around 13 on Sunday. Disney was estimating 12.2

$23M according to Spatula. He also confirmed that Saturday was "only" $31M (still a huge number).

I take that back. Guardians came in at 25.5. Looks like Disney's estimated 18% drop was accurate after all.

But those films are a big reason Disney is maintaining their loyalty. Behind-the-scenes politics just don't matter as much to average people as the end product trying to entertain them.
I know there were/are some pretty bad dealings going on at Pixar (and that wage-fixing allegation is pretty disconcerting), but I can't hate them as long as they keep making products I love.
My comments were in no way trying to get you to hate Disney/Pixar/Marvel films. I love most of them myself. A lot of talented people put their hearts and souls into those projects and I see nothing wrong with loving them.

Agreed. Especially if we're talking about Walt Disney World. Disneyland seems to still be doing great. The film division has a lot of talent there. And the purchase of The Muppets, Pixar, Marvel, and LucasFilm were all great purchases. Iger has done some things well. But, hiring Rich Ross was a mistake, the Next Gen debacle at Walt Disney World is a financial mistake, and there is way too much worry about short term gains for the stock price than making smart long term moves.
Still, there is so much great IP there that the foundation is there for greatness. They just need to focus more on the long term.
You nailed it. The Walt Disney World resort is on a downward spiral and that Next Gen debacle which cost upwards of 1.2 BILLION dollars has resulted in deferred maintenance and a host of other sad developments. If Iger has his way, the Parks and Resorts division would have been sold off by now.

Yeah, and Walt was certainly no saint either. Disney has their share of junk but when they get it right, they really get it right.
My statement had nothing to do with the quality of the film division or the output of that film division. I was referring to the corridors of power within the greater Walt Disney Company.

It's because they keep putting out movies that people enjoy. It really depends who takes over after Iger leaves. If it's someone other than Rasulo, Staggs, or Crofton then things should be different.
The success of the film division is in spite of Iger. I'm not knocking any of the great films they've created over the years but it doesn't change the fact that the company itself needs a massive overhaul and a return to what made it so great in the first place.

Next week I'll talk about Amy Pascal and how everyone including the doormen at the Sony building are puzzled by her complete inability to get fired.

I think they just wanted to be over Godzilla and as close to Cap 2 as possible. But really, when a movie overperforms like this one is, why would you "fake it 'til you make it"?
Isn't the world enough for you, Disney? Isn't it????
People don't like to hear this about Disney but the current regime under Bob Iger is probably the most insidious of all the major film studios. The entire company is built solely around driving the stock-prices up and pleasing the shareholders and nearly every executive is only concerned about the short term and could care less about the long term viability of the company. It's funny to me that the Disney brand still has so many loyal fans who somehow think the spirit of Walt walks the hallways of Burbank. Don't even get me started on what Iger has done to the Theme Park division. The sooner this clown resigns the better.

Yesterday was 31.
Disney estimating an 18% Saturday to Sunday drop is just odd.

Can you confirm if yesterday was $31M or was it a little higher?

Maybe I'm crazy but looking at the numbers now I'm seeing more like 23 million for Sunday.

BOM just made a page for Chris Pratt. He's officially made it
Kudos to Universal for snatching him up for Jurassic World. So far, nearly everything I've seen or read about that production makes me think it will be bigger than even the most optimistic predictions.

I still think you're looking at it wrong. You're acting like those movies had to make $74M no matter what. And I am saying that they shouldn't have been
able to make as much as they did. Against a better movie, they wouldn't have.
This is complete malarkey and goes against everything we know about the film industry and box office patterns. The folks who went to see Lucy did so because of Universal's pitch-perfect marketing campaign. It had NOTHING to do with Apes at all.

Maybe Guardians was a concept that was always meant to open bigger than the Thor and CA concept one.
Its uniqueness opens a bigger aspect of the MCU with its cosmic part and that is also of a greater appeal...
Not to mention its director passion was very contagious and played a large part into promoting that movie.
If anything Guardians as a concept was a tough sell from the beginning. Most of the credit belongs to the marketing department for bringing a high-energy campaign that wasn't scared to shy away from some of the goofy tonal shifts that the film itself indulges in.
