  1. ^ On second thought, that's a fairly decent number for This Means War and if it holds in the actuals then we have an all top 20+ mil earners top 5. It's not a big disappointment but somewhat underwhelming that it can't beat the three holdovers but given the awful reviews, this is a solid OW

  2. My work won't allow me to see HUGO this Sunday. Yeah I have work on Sundays. :(Will HUGO still be around next week?

It's only limited because it's only shown on 3D screensand unfortunately I don't think it's earning enough so it will likely shed half of its screens next week. I think it will still be around with the malls with lots of theaters like SM Megamall and Mall of Asia
  3. I think local movie Unofficially Yours will win the box office this week. Wanted to see that but the screenings are sold out. Hugo is available only in 3D format and sadly I don't think it did well in the box office so it will likely lost half (or more) of its screens next week for the Beauty and the Beast 3D re-release. Also opening next week are This Means War, Jack and Jill and local action flick Hitman. Nothing exciting for me so I will likely watch Hugo again if it survives a second week in the theater near my work :D I'll catch Beauty and the Beast 3D as well because I want to experience it in the big screen plus to catch the Tangled short as well

  7. Here's a press release from The Vow's local distributor saying that the movie earned 34 million pesos (about $1.4 mil) on its first full week of release

"Columbia Pictures' touching romantic drama The Vow stole the hearts of Filipino audiences as it grossed an outstanding P34.08-million nationwide in its first seven days of release (Feb 10-16) and on only 61 screens. This was announced today by Vic Cabrera, managing director of Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc. which distributed the film."

  8. The Descendants

    Feb 17, 2012 / 6:20 PM,

    Greenbelt 3, Makati City, Philippines

    90% full (300-400 seats)

The trailers were already airing when I entered the cinema and these are the ones I was able to see

    Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

Jack and Jill - some laughs

    My Week with Marilyn

This is War - some laughs

    The movie:

The story felt a little dry but in a way I like the simplicity of it all and that it's really all about pain. I love the rapport between George Clooney and Shailene Woodley, I like their scenes together. This is a good performance from Clooney but I don't think it's worthy of an Oscar. The crowd enjoyed Matt's confrontation with his wife's other man and they were very receptive as well of Sid's stoned jokes. All in all, it's a fine movie but it's nowhere near Payne's best.

  9. I just think it's important to stress that unless you have seen something you don't have the right to tell us if its good or not.

That's the Rotten Tomatoes effect I guess. Not that it's bad if you use that as your movie watching guide but sometimes it's weird how people passionately hate a movie they haven't seen just because it's rated "rotten"
  10. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

    Press Screening (Feb 15. 2012)

    8 pm, Glorietta, Makati Philippines

    95% full (400-500 seats)

    - The press screening was co-organized by a motorcycle magazine here so there were a lot of riders/bikers in the crowd

    Trailers:

Battleship - some wows and "it's like Transformers" comments

Jack The Giant Killer - No reaction

The Dark Knigh Rises - no reaction

    The Hobbit - some chatter

Titanic 3D - some chatter, some were surprised to see this trailer

Ice Age 4 short - lots of laughter

    The movie

This is not my kind of movie but it has amazing visuals. The story's a little darker than the previous and there were some creepy moments. Nicolas Cage is entertaining the in the crazy insane way and the crowd laughed a lot with some of his dialogues and antics. Saw this in 3D and it was OK but nothing amazing.
