Where on earth are these numbers from...it has 2.7m views between Gaga's channel and WB on Facebook, there's no way the total number is 70m. Looks like BS to me unless there's some verifiable proof.
Ah, those fan accounts are sometimes absolute shitposters, wouldn't shock me if this was the case.

No clue if this is reliable, but since people were curious I thought I'd share.

Curiously, most of the few family films that have opened after 2021 have been quite succesful.
Super Mario Bros
Across the Spider-verse
Minions 2
The Little Mermaid
Wonka
Puss in Boots
Sonic 2
Sing 2
Elemental
TMNT
Migration
Trolls 3The bad guys
Super-Pets
Even minor films had solid runs, like Boy and the Heron, Paw Patrol or Lyle, Lyle Crocodyle.
The only clear underperformers are Wish, Ruby Gillman, Lightyear, Strange World and Paws of Fury.
In the end, 13 films clearly directed to families have grossed 100M+ since 2022, and 5 of them over 200M. That's very good!
I mean it's not that curious, low supply vs high demand. It's curious that Hollywood aren't releasing more kids movies.

Thank goodness for that. These movies are the only gigs @The Panda can get in Hollywood. Though maybe there’s an opening for Zootopia 2.
I thought he did a great job playing the murder victim in Tropic Thunder before he even made it big, I think he can find plenty of similar work if he's willing to keep his ego in check...

That's also a staple of anime.
Denis said recently that Akira was an inspiration for Dune Part II, and... I can see it, actually
Denis is probably the only filmmaker I could trust on that Akira adaptation. Would probably still be a bad idea though.

Speaking of LotR, I remember Villeneuve saying that he was actually relieved in hindsight that he didn’t film the Dune movies back to back, because he needed time to cool off after how exhausting the initial shoot was. I guess Peter Jackson is built different.
Peter Jackson has been creatively exhausted for decades after the LotR shoot. Honestly, worth it.

The Kwisatz Haderach and the Lisan al Gaib are not the same thing. The Bene Gesserit plant prophesies all over the universe so that they can be exploited in times of need. Many Bene Gesserit could successfully fulfill the prophecies (and many have). The events of Dune are special because it's a perfect storm of Paul being the Kwisatz Haderach, Paul and his mother needing to exploit the Fremen because the rest of their family has been murdered, and the Fremen being the greatest fighting force the universe has ever seen.
The relationship between Paul and the Fremen is a lot more complex than "exploitation".

It's kinda of based on prequel books written by his son, which said the book are inspired by what his father left on notes (he's an executive producer with villenueve too). While the co writers of all these books, Kevin j. Anderson, is the main producer.
We can't say it's not in the hands of people well know the essence of the universe.
His son's books are not very well-regarded.

Let's say a time machine is invented. Now let's say its creator goes back in time and spreads a prophecy about a man who will one day invent a time machine. Does that make him a Messiah?
If according to that prophecy that is the only condition to becoming the Messiah, sure, he'd be the Messiah to the religion that follows that specific prophecy.

There is no real Messiah because there is no real prophecy. The Bene Gesserict crafted it so that it could be used by the candidate of their choosing in due time. Paul was capable of passing those trials because he was trained to do so by someone who already knew what he would need to fulfill the prophecy to begin with.
It was always simply a story the Bene Gesserict seeded onto the Fremen to manipulate them when the time came. That it backfired and was used by a different party instead is merely coincidental.
The fact that the prophecy has been invented as tool made to manipulate people does not make it not true. Paul is using psyops, and is also the messiah. Accept the duality.

You know, I love that despite Bladerunner 2049 flopping, Denis decided to make the dreams of his nerdy teenage self come true and take on the monumental taks of adapting Dune, and basically all of Hollywood's rising stars were like "fuck yeah let me get in on that".
In hindsight I have no idea how it happened, but I'm glad it did.

If Chani doesn't return to Paul in Messiah, it drastically changes not only that book but the rest of the franchise, which Legendary may still want to do without Denis.

- Children of Men- The Shape of Water
- Pacific Rim
A movie doesn’t need to gross a billion to be culturally impactful. Hell it doesn’t even need to be profitable initially. Blade Runner is one of the most impactful sci-fi films of all time and it BARELY limped to a small profit in the 80s.Children of Men wasn't Del Toro, and The Shape of Water is not culturally impactful. Pacific Rim is borderline but I'll give it to you, but it also massively benefited from the cinematic experience, if it was released on Netflix it would've probably been instantly forgotten.

Basically Messiah will get greenlit whenever Denis feels like.

"That's completely subjective" there's no way to have a conversation of cultural impact that is not subjective.
Name 3 culuturally impactful Del Toro movies.

What mystery is there?
There's been a lot of talk about whether the previews were rounded up or fudged from 9-9.5 to around 10.

Yeah if this gets buzz like Saltburn did I'm sure Amazon would be thrilled.
