Yeah.. I only started working during part of the year so I don't have a full perspective. I just keep being told how quite it is (except for DH2), probably just people always exaggerating what it was like :PBD1 is the only real massive disappointment for sure.. Red Dog's run was amazingNah, Australia's had a bumper year. The strength was from sleeper hits like King's Speech and Red Dog.

4m for saturday would be insane! That would be like a $10m-$11m weekend hahaI think it was a pretty decent chance of going for $4, but I'm pegging it lower at the moment.See what Robert has from Sydney.4m for Saturday or the weekend?

Europe (or parts of it) are probably in a worse situation then US.. Its just the expanding markets (asia mainly) which are driving the OS explosion. Australia this year I think has been pretty quite except for DH2..But it's only really in "recession" in the US. Everywhere else it's going strong (or at least it seems to be).

Box office is really slumping.. and with such a pattern, it is definitely more then the selection which is the root of the problems.

Saturday wasn't much better then Inbetweeners, I see it making $3m-$3.5m roughly.

Firefly.. <Joss Whedon!!

When they played the twilight trailer in front of HP at the midnight screenings this happened, in a theatre of 450 people fantastic to see! That is just too funny I wish I could of been there.

If any two films won't under perform it'll be TDKR and the hobbit..

1 The Hobbit2 Snow White and the Huntsman3 Titanic 3D4 Brave5 Dark Shadows6 Tintin7 John Carter8 The Hunger Games9 The Dark Knight Rises 10 Lorax

SWTH too Much more exciting year than this year, which only really had PotC, HP, TF and BD.. I can see a few movies having the potential to get to 300m apart from the big ones (brave, john carter), The lorax could do 200+, I see titanic surprising and we have madagascar 3, ice age 4 and dark shadows..

Pretty similar to The Inbetweeners numbers, however the family value should mean a higher weekend. Dolphin tale is getting terrible numbers :/

We're open christmas (from 2pm), and it's usually pretty quite, then boxing day is our busiest day

Disregard post on next page.

A good test for 3D will be John Carter next year. That is a 'new world' experience, and if that can bring people back into 3D, we'll know its definitely not dead!

Good for TTSS and muppets!! Everything else was not good..

I just don't see the buzz here for it. And i'm quite sure dolphin take is coming out too..Puss in boots will play great as there are no kids films until the 1st.

If anyone can do it, it is James CameronThis would be beyond shocking In a good way but shocking.

Really depends on what you think a better/weaker film is. The spectacle is what made the Avatar experience so wonderful for me, that hardly makes it a weaker film. A film is about entertainment, some are much more conceptual and original then others, but Avatar was probably one of the most entertaining films I have seen recently. And movies are made for the masses, so of course if you don't like what the masses like then it'll be a weaker film for you. However the BO is about the masses, so we must always take them into account. As someone who see's Cameron's best films as Terminator 2 and Aliens...Titanic and Avatar are disappointing in comparison. They might have been bigger and made more money...but they weren't better. Better spectacles, weaker films.

Nearly everyone I know disagrees with you. I'm in the middle, I appreciate that the lover story was there and definitely appealed to the vast majority of the public, but for me it just wasn't very strong. I loved the environment and SFXAvatar's strong suit was the technological advances, the special effects and the action sequences. Dialogue and love story weren't strong at all.

The love story is definitely strong in the publics mind (I don't care for it), but it is one of the multitude of reasons why Avatar was such a success.
Friday Estimates: SH2 $15m, Alv $8m, MI4 $4m
