Question, at the end of this one, are we to assume he paid Samuel Jackson to keep him locked up again?
If that's the case, I don't like that ending.
Yeah the ending in this one is quite different from the (superior IMO) originals ending. There were a number of things he could have done at the end to avoid seeing Marie but putting himself back inside the room just seemed idiotic. Especially considering he was paying the guys who almost raped his daughter.

I found Copley to be one of the worst parts, liked him in District 9 and Elysium but he seemed to be playing a ridiculous caricature here. He had nowhere near the intensity or cunning of the 'bad guy' in the original. I'd highly recommend checking out the original if you liked this though, can't imagine you wouldn't find it to be the better film.

Yeah, don't watch it, watch the original instead.
The main problem with the film is at no point did I feel like I was watching something that was necessary at all. Everything the film does half decently is done much better in the original and more often than not it does what the original did superbly, very badly.
I knew when the hammer scene came on that the film would not get any better. It attempts to do one long tracking shot split over multiple levels but it comes off as completely cartoonish and at no real point do you ever feel excited by what you are watching. Whereas Oh-Dae Su looked like it was killing him to get through this pack of guys, Brolin just bashes his way past complete with an awful soft metal track playing in the background.
The new twist is no good either, it's actually a cop out compared to the original and overall the film is much tamer than I thought it could have been, even though the incest angle is still put in there.
I can't recommend the film at all, if you're interested by the plot then watch the original. If you liked the original, then just watch that again.

The Film:
Not good at all. A completely misguided attempt at remaking a fantastic Korean film which is far too twisted to be remade for mainstream American audiences. Almost everything in the film that they attempt to copy or build upon or even change completely, pales in comparison to the original. The infamous hammer scene comes off as cartoonish and is supported by an awful melodramatic soundtrack that ruins any sort of mood the film attempts to create. The new twist has no emotional impact what so ever if you have any knowledge of how the original ends and Brolin's character has almost nothing in the way of redeeming features.
Wouldn't recommend at all.

IF it does open to less than THG then i don't think it will be a major surprise to anyone but the crazies on here who were thinking $200M+ was possible.
The truth is the first film was lightning in a bottle type material, it had enormous amounts of hype and acted like a sequel in the fact that everyone rushed to see it on opening weekend, whether they had read the books or not.
Whilst the first film was well received, it in all honesty just wasn't anything special. A lot of interested third parties who saw the first film probably won't be coming back for a second time.
I'm in no way trying to bad mouth CF, i saw it last night and thought it was a much improved film but people are too quick on here to go into meltdown mode.
Once the international numbers come in no one is going to care if it makes $50M less domestically.

The Film:
I enjoyed it quite a bit. I was never a big fan of the first film and I've never read the books so I went into the film with low expectations. The first half is fantastic and doesn't follow the typical blockbuster traits. There are a lot of powerful scenes and Jennifer Lawrence pretty much owns the screen. The second half featuring the actual games was surprisingly less interesting. The games themselves this time are not as entertaining as the one from the first film. Overall the film is still one of the better ones this year and I can now state that I will be eagerly anticipating the next film in the series.
There was applause at the end and lots of giggly chatter from the younger girls in the audience.

The Film:
Very good, probably the best film i've seen this year so far. The acting is collectively top notch, Ejiofor is a lock for a best actor nom at least, Lupita Nyong'o has a great chance at taking home supporting actress and Fassbender should get a supporting actor nomination. Personally, i still think Quaron has best director in the bag. Mcqueen lingers on shots too often for my liking when it doesn't particular add any extra emotion to the scene. It's a powerful film that won't appeal to everyone because of it's brutality but it's pretty much essential viewing for anyone who loves cinema.

Attack the block was awful, it had some of the most unrelatable characters in recent memory. The general audience hated it, it would be a step in the wrong direction hiring Cornish for ST3 when he is so unproven IMO.

I have a funny feeling this isn't going to be the major awards player everyone thinks it is. Nothing about that trailer particular stands out. I could easily see a scenario where it gets mixed reviews. It's always hard for a director to follow up an awards favorite with another film of the same caliber just a year later.

Its near faultless on a technical level, the direction, effects and cinematography are all top notch and the first sequence in partixular is enthralling and tense. All of the action scenes are aided greatly by the score which really adds to the sense of dread. Its also the first film ive seen in 3d where I was glad I paid the extra money. Bullock is very good although its too early to say if shes good enough for a second oscar. Clooney plays Clooney although he is still likeable. I thought the script was fairly cliche on the other hand and it didnt thrill me enough consistently for me to consider it one of the best films of the past few years as it just lacks that little extra something. But overall as an experience it comes highly recommended, although it didnt quite live up to the enormous hype for me. But then again nothing ever does.7/10

Oprah is good in The Butler but it's nowhere near an Academy Award winning performance. If this year is strong for supporting characters then she could easily miss out on a nomination.

Film: Lee Daniel's The ButlerTime: 16:00Crowd: 30%Cinema: Amc Universal City Walk, HollywoodTrailers:Closed Circuit - n/rThe Family - laughs12 years a slave - n/rThe best man holiday - big laughsThe Film:As someone who found films like The help and The Blind Side to be overly schmaltzy, The Butler was a pleasant surprise as I felt ot exceeded both of those films in terms of quality. The ensemble cast are collectively good but in all honesty no area of the film stands out to me as a potential award winner. Whitaker and Oprah may get nominated, but it would have to be due to weak competition. The film lacked the hard hitting emotion or very strong acting performances that one of Daniels previous films, Precious, had. The story kept me entertained and it is a surprisingly funny film. On another note, Americans are LOUD in theatres. Phones going off, people shouting at the screen, a much less comfortable experience than at the arclight. The audience clapped at the end, in England we don't applaud a screen so I have no idea if this is an indication of good WOM or not.7/10P.s managed to post that without any spoilers too.

I thought the cinema was one of the better id ever been to, the attendant and the lack of ads were a nice touch. I was trying to keep myself awake after a long day but from what I saw the film was unbelievably corny and in all honesty, mindless junk. The acting and script were terrible with there being way too many ott characters. The effects were impressive and ill give it another shot on blu ray but it was a disappointment from GDT.5/10

Poor horror film with no genuine tension or scares to be had. The acting is below average and I felt nothing for the characters. They did create a very believable Chernobyl set though. I was much more interested when they were walking around the ruins of Chernobyl than I was during the 'horror' scenes.

The Film:
Quite disappointed is my initial reaction. The film just was not scary or creepy in the slightest. The story felt very familiar and in certain scenes i felt like I could have been watching any paranormal/exorcism movie that has been released in the past ten years. The film takes a long time to get into the swing of things and whilst it does entertain when the action does begin, I was never truly on the edge of my seat as the trailers spoiled a lot of the moments in the film that might have been scary. Personally I found Insidious and Sinister to be better films as the stories had me more involved in the film, whereas The Conjuring is overly familiar. The audience seemed to get restless in parts and whilst there were a few screams, it didn't seem to go over as well as the box office and WOM in the U.S would have you expect.

I just finished watching this on blu ray and visually, it's one of the most gorgeous looking films I've ever seen. The landscapes, the effects and just the all round look of the film was fantastic.
I always find Tom Cruise watchable and that's no different here but the film itself was very average to me. It felt like a very familiar sci-fi and it really failed to hold my attention. The first hour or so was very slow and in all honesty I went in expecting it to have more action, when in actuality it was intended to be a character driven film. Unfortunately I didn't find the relationship dynamics to work very well in the film as the female characters were under developed.
A plain jane sci-fi which is redeemed by Cruise and it's incredible visuals.

That is the general plot of the film. He didn't post that.

I can't imagine why someone would get this mad at getting AE "spoiled". I think they really just want to instigate a fight
No one is getting mad and the issue isn't what movie or how much of it was spoiled.
I really don't understand what is so hard to understand about the problem with revealing unmarked spoilers about any film.
If I watch a film, I don't like to know what is going to happen prior to watching it. I don't see why someone being inconsiderate should effect my enjoyment of a movie.

You are the first person to get annoyed.
Well another guy told you to put a spoiler tag before I did.
If you are desperate to put spoilers it really doesn't take two seconds to hide them in spoiler tags, or at least format your post so it's obvious you are about to reveal spoilers.
Unfortunately I can't go to the cinema all the time so I, like a lot of people, have to wait to watch a film. It's just a bit of common courtesy not to spoil films for others.

Not quite there Tonto. If someone is going to call him stupid for posting spoilers to a film that came out 2 months ago, then turn about is fair play. We are mod, not robots. If you prick us do we not bleed?
I said the comment was stupid not him. He retaliated by saying that I was "the stupid".
And really, two months? How about I put up the spoilers to every movie that has been released more than two months ago in unrelated to the film forums and see how long it takes for people to get annoyed with this rule.
IMO there is no room for recent film spoilers in dailies threads.

The Film:
Good, like the previous Hobbit movie but nowhere near the standard of the LOTR films. It's overlong as usual and there are some scenes that just drag on and on but the action is pretty good, if not anything mindblowing. Legolass and Tauriel are great additions. I'd recommend if you like the first film.
